And movies, particularly blockbusters, have never been the same.
I owe this movie just about everything that defines who I am, as an adult. Even if it frightened me to get in the bath tub as a child.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JAWS!

I remember watching this for the first time with my cousin. I wasn't even ten yet so I'm not sure I should have been watching it to begin with. She tried to explain to me that it wasn't a real shark. That is was a guy in a machine. So the first few times I saw Jaws, Jaws 2, & Jaws 3, I thought it was a story about a guy in a robotic shark killing people and no one realized it.
I was a dumb kid.

If it makes you feel any better, the sequence where the shark comes through the wall of the ship, had me scared to death it was going to come through the wall of the shower, when I was little. ...there was a back yard on the other side of the wall. And it was Michigan.

Best part is when the salty sea captain tells the story of how him and all the other sailors got picked off one by one treading water in the sea.

I was born a few months after it was released. Can't remember when I first saw it but I must have been around 5 at the time. I hid my eyes through most of it.

This movie was the reason I was scared to swim in a pool. A POOL. I also thought it was going to come through the plumbing & bite my @ss when I was on the toilet.
I was a dumb kid too.

It's actually playing in one of my theaters this week. I'd be a fool to not make every attempt possible to see this classic at least one time on the big screen.

John Milius (director of Conan the Barbarian) wrote that speech for Robert Shaw...but it was too long and Shaw admitted that he'd never be able to memorize the whole thing. So, Milius, known at the time for his incredible writing, sat down with Shaw and condensed it down to what was eventually filmed. That speech was inspired by tiger hunting books that Milius owned. Just a lil fun fact for anyone who gives a sh*t

Jaws also got John Williams one of his 5 Academy Awards for best score. I own the complete soundtrack. The music really did deserve the Academy Award

Great movie. It's timeless. It still holds up, 40 years later. Even with advanced technology and the special effects we have today.....nothing done with sharks since has even come close. This truly is one of the best movies of all time, in my opinion. This is the typs of movie that for me, I can watch it an infinite number of times and it will never lose anything.

I remember after seeing this movie with my brother at the theater, after he had swimming lessons at the YMCA. Everyone was afraid to go into the pool! Now that's what a movie should do to people!

Reading this makes me feel a lot better about being afraid to take baths after seeing Jaws as a kid. I knew he was in there.
