also one of my biggest wants.....but the character is based on an anime unfortunately. And even if by some miracle Liger owns his rights himself...he wouldn't hand them over to WWE. A company he has no ties with, and he still wrestles all over the world on a regular basis.
unlike how WWE signed Tatsumi Fujinami. Who is retired and doesn't have some gimmick. He just owns his own name.

If they could, I'd love for MDT to go nuts on an elite version w/ entrance gear/cape and perhaps a Battle Pack w/ 4H Brian Pillman?

Don't know if you guys are aware but the Flashback Mysterio we got a couple months ago is wearing the attire Mysterio wore the first time he wrestled Jushin Thunder Liger.

I noticed that when I was looking at attire pictures last night. It would make a great companion piece to that figure. So would a tiger striped trunks Pillman.

Right now Joe is wrestling everywhere he is still signed with WWE and his figure is coming out. If they really want something to happen something can be worked out.

That's the difference. Like I said on the first page. New Japan owns the Liger look/gimmick. Mattel wont pay Millican for the rights to WCW belts (which they could produce over and over and over and over) not a chance they pay NJPW for the rights of Liger who would be a 1 off figure.

I would love a Liger figure! However I highly doubt this means any type of Merch deal so unfortunately I don't see it happening, but it is one step closer. Personally the only reason I think this is being done is to gain more smart mark interest and as a way for NXT to compete with ROH which will also have NJPW talent at Field Of Honor. It is AWESOME, who cares why it's being done. Im gonna sit back and enjoy this. Personally I don't care and think it's a smart move on WWE's part. I think it's great to see them doing things we never even thought would be possible a year ago.

K I'm going to be THAT guy, even though this is probably a one time thing, I am excited at the possibility... news just broke on Twitter that Jushin 'Thunder' Liger will be appearing at NXT Takeover Brooklyn, anyone think this could lead to anything else?! Maybe a spot in the WWE Hall of Fame or perhaps a legends deal for merchandise? Liger has to be one of my most wanted figures ever, what does everyone think? That would be nice but I barely know the guy but if the figure is great and stands out I'll definitely buy it. I saw his one of his costume on twitter and it looks great.

couldn't find anything official...but through google i found ppl saying that New Japan doesn't own the rights to Liger. Bandai does.
Which is probably even worse, since they're a competing toy company. You could argue that Liger's look is different from the anime character...but the fact remains that he never changed his name. He still has the name of the anime character that he's based on.

Not necessarily. Other toy companies have made stiff based on GI Joe and He-man before, which are both owned by Hasbro/Mattel. So it's not too far fetched for toy companies to work together.

Liger is his classic Red and White attire would be great. What little kid wouldn't want that figure too?
I'm a little wary of whether or not he signed a legends deal though. I suspect this is merely a special appearance type thing to compete with the rival ROH event.

Man I would love elites of Liger & Muta. Oh boy. Definitely but I think it's unlikely. Plus Mattel would need to bring their A game to compare with the Japanese releases by charapro and HAO

Right now very little is known about what the WWE intends to do with Liger or if they are working with NJPW. Given that Liger is a figure Bill has said he would love to work on, you would believe if something is going on between Liger and the WWE, Bill would do everything possible to get a figure done. This is something worth monitoring and I think it is very clear there is a market for this figure.
