Over the last couple of weeks the wife and I have been making our way through the MCU again so far we have watched
Iron Man Incredible Hulk Iron Man 2 Thor Captain America Avengers Assemble Iron Man 3 Thor The Dark World
Some of these I had not seen in quite a few years and one of the most amazing things is that while tonight we are watching Winter Soldier which is my favorite. So far there has not been a bad movie in the bunch. If you had asked me at the start before we did this what movie I would put at the bottom it would have been The Incredible Hulk, but I actually really enjoyed that movie. Likewise for Iron Man 2 and 3 they were movies that I "thought" I was not keen on, but I thought they were both fun. The ones that I did not care for as much as I remembered were the two Thor movies. I am not sure if part of that is because of how much I loved Thor Ragnarok so going back to those more serious Thor movies was a bit of a stretch for me.
I have not seen Winter Soldier probably for a year or two so I am interested to see if it holds up as well as it does in my mind. So far out of the ones we have watched, I would put Avengers Assemble as my favorite.

Watched Winter Soldier last night and it is still my favorite. Such a great movie, not just a super hero movie, but action movie in general.
One thing I never thought of until watching it last night and something I just took for granted was the reveal of Bucky as the Winter Soldier. Most of us knew that of course, Bucky was the Winter Solider, but I bet that was a really cool reveal for those whose only experience to Marvel is this movies.

LOVE TWS. For me Caps trilogy has been the strongest of the solo efforts in the MCU.

We totally take the Bucky reveal for granted. My friend Dave in work LOVES the movies but knows ZIP about the comics yaknow? I deliberately kept him in the dark & jaysus he was blown away.
Also I LOVE Civil War. Ever since it was revealed in TWS that Hydra had Howard Stark clipped? I knew it was going to be Bucky....that entire scene where Tony finds that out and the 3 way scrap that follows is absolutely excellent. Downey Jr in particular acts his socks off but all 3 do extremely well.

We have still been plowing through the MCU and here are my thoughts on the recent batch we have watched. Guardians Of The Galaxy: What a great freaking movie this is. I think I have seen this about ten times now and it never gets old. If there has ever been a franchise that could threaten Star Wars sci-fi crown it is this. They cast this movie perfectly and I honestly do not think that I could pick a favorite between the Guardians. Also on a side note, my wife and I are huge Parks and Recreation fans and seeing the transformation Chris Pratt went through to become Star Lord from Andy Dwyer is still insane to see. Avengers Age Of Ultron: I had not seen this movie in a couple of years and if you had asked me before I watched it again I would have told you it was in my top five.... watching it again though it would not crack my top five at all. It is not a bad movie at all, but in comparison to the rest, there is just something not as good. Also the fight sceene at the start of the movie has some really bad CGI. This is the only Marvel movie where I have noticed that something is clearly CGI it was especially bad with Thor and Cap. I was watching it on blu ray on a 4K TV so I do not know if that was perhaps why it was so noticeable, but the rest of the movie did not seem as bad so it is weird. Ant Man: This is a really fun movie and my son who is ten still says that this is one of his favorite movies of all time. I love Paul Rudd as Ant Man and the whole movie is just a good watch. My dad who is in his 50's still says that if you told him 20 years ago that Ant Man would be a bigger deal than the Justice League he would have laughed in your face. Civil War: I think I have a new favorite!!!! before we started our journey back through the MCU I was sure Winter Soldier would still be my favorite, but man I freaking loved this movie. This was probably the third time I watched it. first time in the theatre, second just after it came out on blu ray so it had been a while since I saw it. Civil War is one of my favorite comic book arks and when I first saw this I knew I was not getting that exact thing on the big screen, but I was a little disappointed with how small the scale was in the movie compared to the book. Well seeing it again after a couple of years made me really appreciate this movie. It lasts two and a half hours, but it does not feel like that. Also team Cap all the way. I was with Cap in the book and I am with Cap in the movie. My wife is team Iron Man..... which could be grounds for a divorce as how can anyone take Tony's side in this

Its absolutely powerful & 100% spot on. Marvel can put titles like Dr Strange, Ant Man & Guardians of The Galaxy out there as well as the 2nd Spidey in 6 years and they are all a bigger deal than Justice League...….incredible really. Just shows how damaged a brand DCs movies are and WB have only themselves to blame.

Two (potential related) bits of news...
First, GOTG3 is currently on hold. With no director they are holding off till a replacement can be found.
And second, reports are that Taika Waititi has met with Marvel about returning to the MCU "sooner rather than later". It's not known if they have thought about a follow up to Thor Ragnarok, or if they're talking to him about GOTG3.

From what I understand, Disney just announced that as soon as Captain Marvel is finished in theaters, it will go straight to their streaming service. So you will be able to stream it months before it comes out on Blu Ray & DVD.

So you will be able to stream it months before it comes out on Blu Ray & DVD. I wonder if this will impact on their box office returns. Then again, for Avengers 4 (assuming this will be policy from hereon), it's possible it'll still be in the cinema only 2/3 weeks before the home video release anyway.

I forgot this thread was around. I've been going through the entire MCU, including TV shows and One Shot short films. I'm trying to do it in chronological order, so I've seen Captain America: The First Avenger, and am about done with season one of Agent Carter. I'm also trying to do writeups after each film/season of TV. Captain America: The First Avenger 7/22/11 | Director: Joe Johnston | Rotten Tomatoes: 79% | Runtime: 124 minutes | Platform: Blu-RayI’m taking on the tall task of watching the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe in chronological order. That means every single film, television series, and one shot short films that take place in this universe. Though Iron Man was the first thing released back in 2008, I opted to try for chronological order, meaning I began with Captain America: The First Avenger. Released in 2011, this film mostly takes place throughout the 1940s. It tells the story of Steve Rogers. He’s a scrawny dude from Brooklyn with a lot of heart. His introduction is well done in this movie. His very first scene shows him shirtless around a bunch of guys trying to get into the army. It shows us just how small he is compared to everyone else. It also made us sympathize with him, because he’s quickly cast aside due to his size. The very next scene involves him standing up to a jerk and taking a beating in an alleyway for it. Of course, this iconic scene sees Steve hold up a trash can lid like he would eventually hold his signature shield, but it also gives us the first, “I can do this all day.” It’s a masterful line that goes on to bookend the trilogy. When I first saw this movie, I mentioned how the first two-thirds move kind of slowly. That’s still rather true, but it’s actually the most engaging part. Chris Evans, who is perfect in this role, has some standout scenes during this section. Along with the alley fight, he has two conversations that come to mind as being great. The first is with Stanley Tucci’s Abraham Erskine. It comes the night before he gets the super soldier serum and it’s full of exposition, but comes across in a natural way. The other is when Steve talks to Agent Carter in the cab. Evans and Hayley Atwell play well off each other. Steve comes across as awkward, yet adorable, and it’s just some great character stuff. Steve getting the flag during training and jumping on the grenade are both fantastic, as well. One of the things I wanted to address in this watch through was the case of the villains. The MCU has suffered through some questionable bad guys in their history. Luckily, the Red Skull, played strongly by Hugo Weaving, is probably the strongest Phase 1 bad guy. His goal isn’t overly original, but he works as a good foil for Rogers. They’re both super soldiers, but one is pure good and the other is pure evil. Simple, yet effective. Unfortunately, their climactic battle falls kind of flat. It’s not bad, but it’s not memorable. I’ve been this movie several times and I almost never remember what happens in it. There are some things that were cool to check out knowing what else goes down in the MCU. For example, getting to see the Tesseract/Soul Stone within minutes of watching the first film is cool. The same goes for Red Skull getting sucked into it and being sent to Vormir to guard the Soul Stone. I also enjoyed the early stages of the relationship between Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes. It’s done well, though not overly so. I would’ve liked a bit more between them. It would make the next installment even stronger. Lastly, I wanted to talk about the very ending. Steve crashed the plane with the Tesseract to save millions and while he was going down, got Agent Carter to agree to go on a date with him. When he awakens from being frozen nearly 70 years later, he’s rightfully freaked out. Nick Fury, in his first chronological appearance, explains what happened and all we get from Steve is, “I had a date.” And then it cuts to black. Such a good ending. I kind of wish he never met up with old Agent Carter in later movies because it kind of takes away from this moment. Ultimately, my rating of the movie stays the same as the last time I watched it. However, it’s for different reasons. I loved the very ending and have now turned around on how strong the first two-thirds are. The back third has fine action, it just isn’t memorable. There’s some CGI issues, which you don’t get often in MCU stuff as the effects usually work. But, Bucky’s “death” is laughably bad and skinny Steve is strange looking. Anyway, this was a great film. Overall: 8/10

We are coming to the end of our journey once again through the MCU. Here are my thoughts on the last batch of movies we have watched. Doctor Strange: I remember watching this in the theater, it was brutal! Not because of the movie, but because my son who was 8 or 9 at the time hated it! If you have never sat through a movie with a kid who does not like that movie then be thankful for that. Watching this again, I actually really enjoyed it. I thought the special effects were fantastic and I liked how it moved at such a fast pace. Benedict Cumberbatch is perfect as Dr. Strange, even when he is being good he still has a bit of that arrogance about him and I love that. Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2: What a great freaking movie. I really do not think I could pick between the two Guardians movies for a favorite as they are both fantastic. The real star of this movie is Drax. Batista just nails this role and the way he reacts to the other characters is one of my favorite things about this movie. There are so many great scenes that make it impossible for me to pick a favorite one, but as weird as it sounds I love the whole bit when Rocket is looking for tape to put over the death button on his bomb, the whole interaction captures the group so well. Spider-Man Homecoming: I loved watching this in the movie theater and I still think that Tom Holland is great as Spider-Man/ Peter Parker. Watching it this time around though I did not enjoy it quite as much and I am not sure why. I think that Flash Thompson is the worst casting in the whole MCU. How in the blue hell is this podgy Indian kid Flash Thompson? I have no doubt in my mind that Peter Parker before he got bitten by a spider could kick this kids ass. Michael Keaton as the Vulture is great and that scene in the car when he figures out that Peter is Spider-Man is bone chilling. I said to my wife while we were watching it that I felt that Aunt May was way too young. Well, she pointed out that she always thought Aunt May in the other movies (she only watches the movies) was weirdly way too old to be Peters aunt and she was more like his grandmother....... now I cannot look at old school, little old lady Aunt May the same way as I see her as too old to realistically be his aunt We will probably watch Black Panther and Infinity War over the weekend which should be fun as I have not watched either of these since seeing them in the theatre. I really think that the MCU is one of if not the biggest achievement in cinema history. How they have made all these movies connect to each other while at the same time being their own thing and mini-series is truly incredible. Not only that I really do not think there is a bad movie in the bunch. Sure some might not be as good as others, but there is not one I would say that I thought was bad.
