So essentially, WWE just wants halftimes now in their big PPVs. Two hours of matches, 30 min break for music and talking, and then whatever time is left for the final two or three matches.
I don't know, it's all about how you use time versus the actual amount of time. I can't stress enough how worthless I think paying someone to come out and perform live music, that has nothing to do with an actual superstar entrance, is for WWE. The talking segment becomes free advertising in a way. You have eyes on the product that don't watch all year round, so like Rowdy at Mania, and you can build something unique during a PPV segment. I'm guessing we see more Rock/4 Horsewomen/Authority stuff.
I'm not particularly excited for SummerSlam. We've seen Cena vs Rollins before and the absolute last thing WWE needs right now is the title back around Cena. I would rather watch Zack Ryder and Bo Dallas in a 60 minute Broadway than Taker vs Brock for 15 more minutes. Ambrose isn't doing anything, Ziggler and Rusev looks like it's going to be strapped with the women, and Owens and Cesaro are feuding over which one of them lost better to John Cena. I guess the potential of Enzo and Cass showing up at SummerSlam has me floored, but beyond that I don't really care about any one match. I don't want this to turn into a 4 hour chore, but I guess there is still plenty of time before the PPV too.

Like the concept could work if the show was centered around showcasing the wrestling. If we had 7 solid matches and one or two NXT showcases and they were given the proper time (not just throwing Orton & Sheamus out there for 25 minutes to kill time) people would be praising it.
Expecting Cena/Rollins (which, if they did so much to add value and meaning to the US Title why is it not being defended?), Orton/Sheamus II, 'Taker/Lesnar, Reigns&Ambrose/Wyatts, Hoss Bella keeping her title yet again being average and Cesaro/Owens (a possibility) being the only above-average match, coupled with a long-winded promo that goes nowhere and a musical guest that kills time and momentum from the wrestling devalues the idea of a four-hour Summerslam.

I'm going to take a wild guess and assume this will be just like 3 hour Raws - okay in principle, bad in execution.
