How is the learning curve/difficulty as far as HCTP is concerned? 95% of my wrestling video game expertise has taken place in the N64/Gamecube area but I've always heard great things about HCTP and since I recently dusted off the PS2 I figured I'd see what the fuss is about and play a Smackdown game but I've heard that the A.I. is a lot different and can be somewhat of a bastard even on Easy (non-stop reversals and such). I'm gonna buy it either way but was curious as to what to expect difficulty wise.

Its not that difficult, and the AI is probably the best of any wrestling game. I miss HCTP

As the others have said, the difficulty of HCTP isn't that bad. Even on legend, if you time the grapples and striking well, you should be able to have no problems with the AI. I played it a couple of days ago on my PS3 and started Season Mode with Eddie Guerrero, currently the US Champion and one-half of the WWE Tag Team Champions with Brock Lesnar, and have been having a blast. Here Comes The Pain is probably one of the best wrestling games of all time, and arguably the best on the PS2.

Yeah I'm not too surprised to hear that, I assumed the difficulty/learning curve wasnt much different from No Mercy or DoR 2, I just remember a couple of people talking about frustrating reversals or what have you. I know the game has purple tights Triple H so I can only imagine it's the best thing ever since Reese's Sticks.

Personally I still prefer no mercy though, Let us know your thoughts on HCTP when you play it!

I started playing this the other week and I've played two years of season mode as Eddie Guerrero, a year as The Undertaker, a year as Edge and now I'm playing as Triple H.
I keep finding new stories or ways to play them so it's pretty awesome. Such a great mode, I love this game so much! Nostaligic and fun!
Going to to try and get SYM and SVR soon so I can go back and play those season modes as well.

I'm playing the game as I write this, It's an amazing game after at least 2 or 3 matches you'll be amazing. A.I is the best for a WWE game every character is different. Characters like Chris Jericho & Trish Startus will reverse a lot where as The Hurricane & Jazz will not. The roster was perfect for its time too. They could have kept Jeff Hardy & Dawn Marie they could also have kept Hulk Hogan & Ultimate Warrior as legends the game would of been even more perfect. They should have also added Spike Dudley, Zach Gowen, Jamie Noble, Billy Kidman, Molly Holly & Nidia but the game was perfect.

This game plays quite similar to Shut Your Mouth so if you've played that game you'll be fine, but it's a lot better than the current wrestling games so you'll be fine and have more fun while at it!
