Ok so this dude was over, HUGELY over in 96, like crazy, he was easily the number 2 top guy behind Michaels. He was IC Champ, and had a good run, but you fast forward a year and the guy is a throw-away, a generic heel that moves like a slug and seems to have every sort of support brace on his body.
Where did he lose all his momentum? Did Farrooq really just flat out kill his career?
Also, totally unrelated, but watching Ahmed in the Nation and every time he opens his mouth, every time, you can clearly see Farrooq just cringe, its hilarious haha!

I am guessing steroid abuse flat out killed his career.
He kept getting bigger and was just really injury prone. I have a feeling he was gonna be a WWE Champion in time. He even won a battle royal to face HBK for the WWE Title. But with Faarooq 'injuring' him that all changed.
If he wasn't injured he was injuring others. By 1998 the WWE was happy to wash their hands clean of him. I think his last PPV appearance was No Way Out 98 in February. Not soon after that he was gone.

He never had "it".
But he lost all momentum when he was constantly in and out due to injuries.
Plus, his promos were hot garbage and his ring work was sloppy and dangerous.

Oh yeah, he got ing HUGE, but all it did was clearly slow him down and frankly he looked super unhealthy haha. I dont know, its just always baffled me that he went from the top straight to the bottom, a nobody in such a short span of time, I dont think theres ever been such a fall in use/popularity/reaction/general caring in a superstar ever

From his debut in the Fall of 1995 all through up until he got injured and had to be stripped of the IC Title, Ahmed had 'it'. The fans loved him, Vince definitely loved him, and he was going to be a star in Vince's eyes.

Now come on man, there is no way anyone can say that! He had the fans in the palm of his hands for a good 6/7 months, he put on some pretty awesome matches (for the time) and was feuding with THE guys, plus his promo's weren't too bad back then, or atleast they were coherent and you could understand them. Im no fan of him either, but there is no way anyone can gloss over just how important he was to the company for most of 96! I will admit, he totally had lost alot when he came back, but still had a connection with the fans heading into WM13, even if his promos had dipped in quality, he was still over. Maybe it didn't help that he continued to feud with the Nation, and every few weeks seemed to have the same 'if I win, the Nation disbands' match and every time he lost. It seems maybe in the time he was off; Austin sky-rocketed to the top faster than anyone ever has, Bret had come back, Sid had found his groove, Taker was starting to come across as relevant for the first time in years, Michaels became the babiest of babyfaces ever and Goldust had surprised everyone and started getting a BIG face reaction. Maybe there just wasn't room enough for him anymore.

I made a post not to long ago about Ahmed. Got the same reactions as this post did. He was over in 96 up until his injury. Sucks he couldn't get back into his groove. What bothered me was the constant feuding with farooq I think it should have died way faster than it lasted

There's a difference between having "it" and just simply being over. Ahmed was a big guy in an era where big guys had been phases out. He was something new, something fresh. Plus he got a rub from HBK. Ahmed never had "it" though. That's just silly. That's like saying Ronnie Garvin had "it".

Just watching the episode where he joined the new Nation of Domination. I think him and Faarooq could have been a great team had he not gotten injured so much.

Yeah I'm gonna agree that he never really had "it". I think the fans quickly realised that he absolutely sucked so they moved on.
Hats off to the guy though, he got over for a while while absolutely sucking ass.

How dare you mention " Rugged" Ronnie Garvin in the same sentence as that loser! Oh wait he is two sentences apart...Well, that doesn't change the fact that "Mr Hands of Stone" wasn't totally over. Go watch him in those 20-30 fan TV tapings the NWA did...he was totally over!
