By the time I officially hit 'Post' on this entry, it should be after midnight, and officially my 36th birthday. Because my fiance had to work a hospital shift on my actual day-of-birth, we celebrated a day early. Here's what she got me for gifts this year.
I was most impressed with the gift bag she found. This is one I won't be recycling for someone else's gift. The other side had Bret Hart and Stone Cold.
I was also impressed with the card she found. She almost got me a giant Daniel Bryan card, but she saw the Piper one, and remembered how I told her he was my first hero in wrestling.
I thought it was cute how she apologized that the stickers 'might have logos of guys you don't like'... I just appreciated the thought.
The single Flair is from the WM Heritage series, of course. Coincidentally, I loved his WM 8 match. Though she just knew Flair was another hero of mine.
The Horsemen set has a funny story attached: Usually, the fiance shops at Target, and will stroll by the WWE figure aisle to see what they have. She knows I like Legend/Flashback guys, and it's cute to have her give vague descriptions of the figures whose names escape her, and my feebly trying to guess what they might have been. So a few months ago, when she informed me that they had the Hall Of Fame series out, I get real serious. I ask her to concentrate and think carefully. I ask her if there was a Hall Of Fame box with four figures inside. She said no. I reasoned to myself there'd be no use explaining, and I dropped it.
About a month or two ago, she tells me of her recent Target adventures in the figure aisle. She casually mentions she saw a box with four guys in it" "Ric Flair and..."
"...Arn Anderson, Barry Windham, and Tully Blanchard?"
"Yeah!"
"And did you grab one?"
"I had no idea you liked those guys."
"It's my fault. Remember when I asked you a few months back if you saw a Hall Of Fame box with four guys in it? When you said no, I figured there was no use explaining. The Horsemen are a Target Exclusive, and thus, pretty hard to find on the shelves. But yes, I loved them. If you come across them again, please grab them for a future present."
And there ya go.
Bonus: Instead of making a separate post, I just wanted to share that I now have my childhood represented by the two greatest four packs Mattel ever put together...
