Find it hard to watch the ECW Hardcore TV on the network? I feel like a lot of it isn't any matches really.

It was basically an indy, so the fact that it was on TV at all was seen as a nice bonus back in the day. But yes, they did a lot of promo work and sometimes only showed 2 full matches.
If watching them on WWE Network annoys you, you probably would have hated the shows in their original form. They had an insane number of promos during the show selling T-shirts and advertising their upcoming events, which WWE Network mercifully edits out.

I just checked them out earlier this morning, was looking for Austin's stuff, and man I just couldn't watch any of them. The quality is super poor, and the shows are so short yet the match length wasn't, so it was weird. I dont know, just couldn't get into it at all

The reason why the shows are so short is because if you find the original ECW Hardcore TV episodes on youtube or through tape trading (does anyone even still do that??) you will see that ECW had a lot of "Hype Central" stuff. What that was, was just advertising what matches are coming out at certain live events but it was to music. The music they used was actual songs of course. Like Coolio, House Of Pain, Fun Lovin' Criminals, etc. So the WWE can't use that stuff because of the music.
A lot of the actual music videos are probably gone too. Paul would have music videos of wrestlers and use real songs. Example, Shane Douglas - Simply The Best, Jason - Whatta Man, Dreamer vs. Raven feud - Smells Like Teen Spirit, and also all the November to Remember music videos using November Rain by Guns N Roses.
ECW would have like two, maybe three, normal commercial spots all through their episodes, and the Hype Central stuff was their own way of paying for the show. They ran their own commercials. ECW TV was pretty much a 60 minute advertisement/informercial, much like Tony Little would do at night, or those old Hits from the 80s music infomercials.
I loved it though. I lived through it all. I was 13 years old in 1994 when I first seen ECW. I watched it right to 2001 when it died. It's not for everyone, and yes, the camera work is grainy at times, and the commentary can be dubbed a bit louder than the fans at times, but for us who lived through it, it holds a special spot in our hearts.
Remember, there would be no ROH or NXT if not for ECW. They paved the way. And there would have been no ECW, if not for the UWF, or ICW. Every company comes from another, just different and better. Hopefully ROH will be around for a long time, and we are pretty sure NXT will be.

When they do have matches they're pretty decent. I'm thinking Super Crazy, Pscosis, etc.

It was a niche programming. Was it great? No. but was it terrible? I dont think so. They had some great wrestlers who put on great matches...then they had some pretty stupid stuff as well. It was pretty much an alternative to WWF & WCW. When they moved to TNN they lost that alternative feel (and most of the hardcore fan base) and just died off.

If you want to watch ECW I'd just watch Heatwave 98 and Barely Legal, and if you can find it the FMW/ECW commercial tape Over The Top and not bother with the rest. For later ECW (1998-2000) there's two good matches per month usually but for the earlier stuff the only redeeming quality is the 5 minutes of promos at the end. There's some decent stuff but you have to sit through a looot of garbage. At least on the Network you don't have to watch Born To Be Wired tape commercials every 3 minutes.

I have all of '96 from tape trading (now thankfully converted to DVD) and yeah...HEAPS of ads, but it was different from WWE, so I dug it, and still do...
Some episodes are quite light on actual wrestling, but that's fine, it was a product of Paul's vision and I went along for the ride...

ECW TV was pretty much a 60 minute advertisement/informercial, much like Tony Little would do at night, or those old Hits from the 80s music infomercials. this nails it. as a kid from the 90s, i love it though. for a while last year around this time someone on dailymotion had most of 1997 hardcore tv complete shows uploaded. was like a kid in the candy store. i even love the endless self promotion and cheap late night commercials - that stupid supplement commercial anyone? loved that they ripped off music too, listening to lakeside and coolio's 'all the way live' over live event dates is classic.

Don't forget that "Armageddon... armageddon... armageddon...." song too they used for those 1-900 hotline things. "All The Way Live" would get stuck in my head so much back then. Or the "Hey Man Nice Shot" song for the Extreme Warfare Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 commercials. Heatwave 98 had "Living Dead Girl" done too and that would get stuck in my head. Man, those old ECW shows were great. I like ROH and I don't mind NXT at times, but nothing will compare to that grunge, indy, low budget style that was ECW. Even back in the NWA Eastern Championship Wrestling days in 1993 and 1994 it had a style to it that can't be duplicated.

My problem with it was it played more like an infomercial than a wrestling show. Just because it aired at the same time as infomercials didn't mean it needed to be one.

Find it hard to watch the ECW Hardcore TV on the network? I feel like a lot of it isn't any matches really. Yup....i can't watch it. Barely Legal and the first two One Night Stand's are the only ECW programs I've watched. I've tried to watch Hardcore TV every now and then and just can't get into it. I have watched a few select matches like Malenko/Guerrero.

It was the alternative/grunge wrestling, while the WWF and WCW were pop and rock wrestling.

I can still hear Joey Styles in my head. "It's HIGH INCIDENT!" "And... UNEDITED, UNCENSORED... NEVER BEFORE SEEN..."
