A decade ago today SmackDown vs Raw 2006 was released in the UK. I still remember being 13 years old and so excited to get it like it was yesterday! For old times' sake, let's have a little discussion about it, whether it be general memories of the game, if you still play it today, favourite things about it or things you didn't like about it. The eeriest thing has to be the storyline of Eddie Guerrero stealing The Undertaker's urn, which resulted in Taker Chokeslamming Guerrero into a casket and closing the lid at Survivor Series. P.S. Does anyone have the gif of Teddy Long being hit by a car in Season Mode?

I was thinking about this the past couple of weeks. I wasn't sure on the exact date but I knew it would be this week as it came out a few days before my Birthday. SvR06 was one of the greatest games in the series no doubt. I had so much fun with this one and a big part of that is because CAW Mode finally started to get good. I remember me and two of my friends set up our Original CAW fed when this came out and two of us still continue on with that fed in the newer games whenever we hang out. The other friend passed away this year sadly though That soundtrack still holds up for me too, amazing stuff. (I put the battery in John Cena that made him a beast; and made it safe for World Wrestling to come to the streets.)

Thus far I think this is the best WWE game ever made. The gameplay style that they started in Here Comes the Pain was refined and perfected in my opinion, taking a slight step back in 2007 and then, well...08 happened. The season mode in the first SvR was flat and boring but was much more entertaining to play through this year (Though, admittedly that was expanded upon further in 07) and GM mode was introduced which for its first time was still really good. Shut Your Mouth was the first game I ever owned and played the most and thus it holds a special place in my heart, but this one was so good that I almost played it just as much and consider it to be the best WWE game I've ever played.
Though, I'm really hoping 2k16 surpasses it. I hope for that every year really, but I have high hopes for this year's game.

Great game. Great soundtrack, great CAW mode, great stories, great roster. One of my favorites easily.

I love this game. It's probably my favorite game from all the PS2 Wrestling games. I made so many CAWs on this game. I remember using CAWs formulas that I found online, sometimes I would copy the entire thing and sometimes I would copy the face and body morph formulas, then make the attire on my own.
I would play GM mode all the time. I think I had more fun booking matches than I did playing them.

This game was perfect and GM mode and that teddy long segment was the highlight of this game lets take a look back and revisit this classic moment.
Too bad you don't see stuff like that anymore in these WWE games today especially with how big the rosters are now.I'll take this over some showcase mode.

Fond memories but far from perfect..the one thing I hated about this game was the fact that that guys would never stay down long enough to hit moved off the top.

I will say, especially since the patch I've been thoroughly enjoying this game. I'm having some really great matches. Still on the train of people in agreement that the submission system sucks balls but hopefully it'll get fixed somewhere down the line. MyCareer is also so much better. It's kind of a double-edged sword because I can be impatient sometimes with how long things are taking, but it makes sense that my character would be in NXT for a while before coming up to the main roster. I've just been made #1 contender for the NXT Championship and I'm looking forward to seeing how the feud with Finn Balor turns out.

There are some strengths and weaknesses to this game. I think this and 2007 have appeal.
I think I prefer the 2006 story, though I'm not sure if I like this or the 2007 legends more.
There was some appeal to the challenges, like getting WrestleMania Ix. People say it's one of the worst WrestleMania events, but I actually like the arena and outdoor theme. I think there's also the classic blue cage. That's cool.
I think the confetti for title wins are over the top. This is one thing I like about 2007 and they got rid of it.
I hate the Roberts PSP exclusive and didn't export it. I simply waited until 2011 to play as him. The DiBiase was cool, as was the Million Dollar and Hardcore belts.
I played Universe Mode in 2011. I liked it, but I like GM Mode much better. 2007 and 2008 had okay GM Modes. I like 2006 the best.
No game is perfect and that includes 2006, but is easily one of the better games I've played in the genre.
