In the backstage area near the arena exit, ace reporter Daniel Knight is standing around with mic in hand.
Daniel Knight: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Curtain Call. Right now, I'm awaiting the arrival of the most talked about man in WFWF...
The camera pans over to see a black Escalade pulling into the parking lot. Daniel turns and makes a hasty run toward the vehicle.
Daniel Knight: And we're going to get his first hand thoughts on recent events, a true exclusive ladies and gentlemen!
He heads toward the driver's side, where the door swings open. The crowd begins to erupt as a WFWF Tag Team Title comes into view. Stepping out of the Escalade is the Architect.
Daniel Knight: Josh, Josh! I know you just got here, but can I get your thoughts on these past few weeks. Rumors are running rampant right now about your mental state.
Josh takes a moment before pulling Daniel's handkerchief out of his front pocket.
Josh Dean: There's a little sweat on your brow, Daniel.
He pats him on the shoulder before slinging his Tag Team Title over his shoulder.
Josh Dean: You should really get inside, it's cold and flu season.
He walks toward the arena, but is stopped. The crowd erupts again as Cameron Stone appears in the panned out shot.
Cameron Stone: Hey- we good?
Josh Dean: Yeah. Listen, give him hell tonight.
Explosions 'n sh*t! YEAH!
Alecia Matthews: This is the go home show before WFWF invades Sin City. This is Curtain Call!
The crowd erupts with a panoramic view of the arena.
Alecia Matthews: Welcome everyone, and we are live from the sold out Valley View Casino Center in beautiful San Diego, California and we have a huge card for you tonight with two title matches. First, National Champion Lucas Crowe puts the title up for grabs in a triple threat match against upstarts Zoe Schafer and Joe Magnet. Ante Witner is also in action tonight. This leading up to our main event. Ahriman, Stone for the International Title in Three Stages of Hell! Only WFWF can spoil you with such action before a pay...
The heavy guitar riffs scream through the speakers as red and gold spotlights alternate in the entranceway, while the crowd rises to their feet. The drums kick in and Kevin Rudolf's vocals follow suit as "In The City" fills the arena.
Josh Dean's visage appears on the entranceway and the crowd noise turns to a near fever pitch as he looks out among them. He adjusts the Tag Team Title on his shoulder as he begins to walk to the ring.
Christa Adina: Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome one half of the WFWF Tag Team Champions, "The Franchise" Josh Dean!
He stops and smacks the steel ramp, shooting up gold and red pyros as he spreads his arms wide and continues his descent. The lights return to normal with the alternating strobes.
Alecia Matthews: And it looks like we're going to kick off the show with the number one contender before his huge World Title match at Showtime. My sources are telling me that WFWF World Heavyweight Champion Drakz is not here tonight.
Josh reaches the bottom of the ramp before climbing the stairs and stepping quickly into the ring. He walks over to the turnbuckle, ascending up to the second and making a diamond shape with his hands. He mouths 'gun' along with the words as he forms a gun shape. Josh takes the Tag Title off his shoulder and raises it high in the air.
Alecia Matthews: Josh has taken a different route than most of Drakz's previous challengers in approaching the gamesmanship aspect of the build up with a manner of respect toward the champion. Could we see him be a little more unfiltered this close to Showtime. He's got a mic, let's find out!
Josh paces the ring and adjusts the Tag Title on his shoulder.
Josh Dean: Well, I guess the worst kept secret in WFWF is finally out.
The crowd erupts and Josh's face develops a big smile.
Josh Dean: You know, it's been a hell of a ride these past several months to get to the position I am now. The question that everyone has been wondering is about the state of SOS, mostly because of the "shove heard around the world". I feel like I need to put a couple myths to rest. See, Drakz was given an ultimatum of choosing between myself and Nikki of whom he would defend the Tag Titles with. Well to all the fans out there, Nikki has decided to take a sabbatical after In The Pit to handle some very personal issues that have caused her to be distracted in the ring. I've always stressed to her that it isn't fair to yourself or the fans to give anything less than your best in between these ropes. She agreed, and as a result, and it pains me to say that it might be a while before any of us see her again.
The crowd boos as Josh nods his head with them.
Josh Dean: I know. But SOS will continue on and maybe we can find solace together, because a few select people in the building want to take this loss as chipping away at my armour as it were. They think that my wife's personal struggles will cause me to fall apart just a few days before the most important match in my career. And boy are they coming with a truck full of salt.
He points at the torn, which pulls up the WFWF homepage.
Josh Dean: I mean look no further than our own website, who came up with this little nugget. The front page headline read "Drakz survives Tag Title match." Now you guys that watched Borderlines know that's kinda how it went down, but not entirely. And I find it humorous only because my travel weight is about ten pounds heavier. See this article is pointing out the disqualification finish, even how the ring was cleared post match with Drakz standing tall. But it seems that a couple of slight details were left out of the equation.
The crowd boos and Josh takes a second to calm them down.
Josh Dean: You guys know the truth, and I find it interesting that in lieu of protecting Drakz's reputation, they felt the need to disparage what I've done for our esteemed champion. Now in case anyone is wondering why I have a Tag Team Title in my possession, let me refer you to the end of Borderlines.
Borderlines
11-2-2015
Sam enters the ring and breaks up the pin WITH THE SHEATHE OF HIS SWORD TO THE BACK OF DRAKZ HEAD! The ref calls for the bell.
Christa Adina: Here are your winners as a result of disqualification, and STILL(?) your WFWF Tag Team Champions, Drakz and Josh Dean!
Sam looks to get the jump on Drakz, but is cut off by Josh, who nails him with the Bankrupt (Last Rites)
Alecia Matthews: Sam paid the price for the outburst there, costing he and Cam the match and then Josh Dean coming through on his promise to protect the champ.
Josh passes Drakz a tag belt and hangs onto the Heavyweight Championship. The Heavyweight Champion stands looking at him, his Tag Team Title over his shoulder and his opposing hand held out, waiting for the belt. Josh shines up the title's plate a little and lifts it up and down a little, commenting on the weight of it to Drakz, before chuckling and tossing it over to the rightful owner.
The crowd are going wild at the prospect of these two throwing down right here but Josh drops to his back and rolls out of the ring, and heads up the ramp, slapping his newly won Championship belt with a genuine smile on his face.
Alecia Matthews: Shots fired. But what the hell did we just see?
Cut back to Josh in the ring.
Josh Dean: For the record, I expect this gross lack of fact checking to be remedied in the title history section in short order. Now I know what it looks like when I casually tossed Drakz the title, so I feel like I need to clear up a couple misconceptions before we go any further. I made a fellow competitor a promise that he would remain unscathed going into Vegas, and at Borderlines that promise was in grave jeopardy. How easy would it have been to let Ahriman rough Drakz up a bit before he and I square off for the belt? Pretty damn easy honestly and in fact, it's this very gesture that could come back to bite me in the ass at Showtime unless I hold up my end of the bargain. But let it be known that I have too much respect for the World Heavyweight Championship to compete for it any other way. So what that means is pretty simple. I am the only protection Isaac Cray needs.
The crowd erupts as he closes in on a camera. His eyes are serious and he speaks very deliberately.
Josh Dean: This Tag Team Title resting on my shoulder is a sign of good faith on your part, Drakz. As far as I know you're not at the arena right now, which could change. I hope it doesn't though, because your gratitude will be shown when that bell rings in Vegas. Rest, get laid, take Dog for a walk, do drugs, whatever you need to do to get ready. But understand two things, partner. Number one, if you decide to show up tonight your presence is more than welcome. You have plenty of people who paid good money to see you here in San Diego!
The crowd cheers at the cheap shout out. He holds up a finger though to silence them.
Josh Dean: Number two, I need you to realize that kindness is not weakness. Because if you show up and try anything f*cked up or funny, I will drop you where you stand and give these people a preview of what they'll see on pay per view.
He backs away from the camera.
Josh Dean: I'll see you in Vegas, buddy.
He flips the mic and blows the camera a kiss as "In the City" hits. Josh adjusts the Tag Team Title as he exits the ring.
Alecia Matthews: If you were to ask me whether Josh Dean is ready for Showtime or not, I'd say the answer is a resounding yes.
The first match is about to get under way but before that, “Streaker” by Sugar Ray plays over the PA system and out walks the WFWF National Champion’s mentor, advocate Justin Tyme.
Alecia Matthews: Oh joy, it would appear that I’m going to be joined by Justin Tyme again on commentary for Lucas Crowe’s first National Championship title defence. How did I get so lucky?
Justin continues to saunter his way to the ring, toying with some younger fans who just want to high five the wrestlers by pretending to reach out for high fives before pulling away. Justin makes his way around the ring over to the commentary booth and grabs a headset.
Justin Tyme: G’d evening Alma, long time no see.
Alecia Matthews: Not long enough I’m afraid.
Justin Tyme: I beg your pardon?
Alecia Matthews: Welcome back to the announce table, I shouldn’t be surprised to see you given the match that’s coming up next.
Justin Tyme: No you shouldn’t be surprised, my protégé and good friend Lucas Crowe is about to take the first step towards shattering records here tonight as he prepares for his first ever championship title defence.
Alecia Matthews: What I meant was that one could argue that Lucas Crowe only won last week due to your intervention that caused Zoe Schaefer to lose sight of the task at hand.
Justin Tyme: Look, Lucas Crowe is a near seven foot tall monster of a man. The last thing he needs is assistance from me. Now I can hardly be held responsible for Miss Schaefer’s lack of any sort of discipline. You take your eye off the prize; you can’t be upset when you get burned. And frankly I think for that reason that it’s ridiculous she’s getting this shot tonight at the champ.
Alecia Matthews: Well in any event, let’s send it up to Christa Adina to get the introductions for this match underway.
The opening riff for “The Vengeful One” by Disturbed tears through the arena as the crowd erupts into a mixed reactions that seems to be about seventy percent negative. Lucas Crowe purposefully walks his way out from behind the curtain.
Christa Adina: The following contest is scheduled for one fall and is for the WFWF National Championship. Introducing first from Detroit, Michigan, Weighing in at three hundred ten pounds he is the current, reigning and defending WFWF National Champion… The Motor City Mercenary Luuuucas CROOOOOOOWE.
Lucas confidently walks his way down the ramp holding up the upside down shocker hand sign. Crowe climbs over the top rope, unstraps his championship from around his waist and raises it in the air.
Justin Tyme: You see the look on Luke’s face? That is the look of a champion that is confident in his abilities to retain when the odds are stacked against him.
Alecia Matthews: He certainly doesn’t look phased at the prospect of defending his championship in the same manner he won it I will give you that much.
Justin Tyme: It’s because he is a disciple of Tyme. He believes a good game plan is all a person needs to overcome any sort of odds.
”20 Percent Cooler” by Ken Ashcorp begins playing through the arena. As the chorus blasts throughout the arena, Joe Magnet walks out, nonchalantly, smirks at the crowd, and brags about his "skillz" to the children.
Christa Adina: Introducing challenger number one, from Toms River, New Jersey weighing in at one hundred and ninety pounds, JOOOOOE MAAAAAAGNET!
He walks very smug-like to the ring where he slowly walks up the steps, wipes his feet and hilos over the ropes. He stands in the middle of the ring and raises both arms, looking as bunghole-y as always.
Alecia Matthews: We talked about the look of confidence your protégé Lucas Crowe had etched on his face Justin but Joe Magnet looks just as confident in his ability going into this match.
Justin Tyme: That’s not confidence, that’s a look of arrogance and that comes from a place of a lack of respect for his opponent. But trust me when I say, Lucas is going to be wiping that look off his face in a matter of moments.
Alecia Matthews: Well we’ve still got one more competitor so let’s send it up to Christa to get the final ring introduction.
”In The Stars” by Icona Pop begins playing as blue lights flash throughout the arena. Zoe comes out with a smile on her face. She walks quickly to the ring while blowing kisses to the crowd. About halfway down the ramp, however, two of the security guards placed around ringside ambush Zoe as she walks past them. The two guards begin laying the boots to Zoe.
Alecia Matthews: What in the hell is this?
Justin Tyme: It’s a game plan Alma plain and simple. When the deck is stacked against you, even the odds by any means necessary.
Alecia Matthews: These are your goons that attacked Ante Whitner at Borderlines! I should have known there was more to you being down here than just a silent observer.
Justin gives Alecia a sarcastic wave as he takes his headset off and goes over to join the rogue security guards. Joe Magnet in the ring puts his hands up indicating that he’s totally fine with this development. Justin instructs the goons to pick up Zoe, each grabbing one of her arms. Justin charges and hits a running STO to her. Justin rolls over and points to the goons to roll her into the ring to get the match started. The referee looks unwilling to ring the bell to get the match underway but following threats of violence from Lucas, Magnet, Tyme and the rogue security guards, reluctantly does so.
*DING DING DING*
Immediately, Lucas moves to the limp body of Zoe Schaefer and picks her up by the hair. He then dumps her out over the top rope to the outside with great ease.
Alecia Matthews: Well this triple threat match has effectively just became a one on one match for the WFWF National Championship. This is ridiculous.
Joe stands in the corner of the ring, pointing and laughing at Zoe’s turn of misfortune but as he’s doing so, he doesn’t notice Lucas Crowe come charging in with a huge three hundred plus pound corner splash which crushes the much smaller Magnet and drives all the air out of his lungs. Crowe spins Magnet around in the corner and begins laying in boots to the stomach, kicking Magnet into a seated position. Crowe backs up and holds his arms out to the sides as if to say “who is going to stop me?”. Crowe takes a run towards the downed Magnet and absolutely flattens him with a Cannonball Senton in the corner.
Alecia Matthews: A man the size of Crowe should not be capable of moves like that. He may have just broken Joe Magnet in half.
Crowe wastes no time, he’s all business tonight after inheriting his upper hand. He drags Magnet to his feet, hooks both of Magnet’s arms and hoists him up, dropping him with an emphatic Crowe’s Nest (Gallow’s Pole). Crowe hooks the leg of Magnet as the referee begins the count.
1…
2…
ZOE SCHAEFER barely makes it in the ring in time to break up the count with a club across the back of Crowe. Crowe and Schaefer stand in the middle of the ring, something that appears to be a struggle for Zoe at the current time. Zoe slaps Crowe across the face which stuns the big man. Zoe then begins to unleash a flurry of punches. When Zoe attempts a kick though her leg is caught by Crowe. Zoe attempts to come back with an enziguri but Crowe ducks it. Crowe then let’s go of the leg and grabs the waist of Zoe and unleashes a hellacious German Suplex.
Alecia Matthews: Even with the beating that Zoe took before this match began, she’s still showing that warrior spirit that she had last week against Crowe.
Crowe rolls over with his grip still around Zoe’s waist and hauls her back to her feet. Instead of going for another German though, Crowe uses his back positioning to lock in the Motor City Blackout (Rear Naked Choke), falling to his back and grapevining his tree trunk like legs around the body of Zoe Schaefer. Schaefer struggles to break the hold. Magnet begins to stir and looks about ready to break up the submission but he is dragged out of the ring by Justin Tyme’s rogue security guards. Zoe reaches for any ropes that may be nearby but she’s in the middle of the ring. Eventually too much air is cut off and the struggle ceases. The referee has no choice but to call for the bell.
*DING DING DING*
Christa Adina: Here is your winner and STILL the WFWF National Champion, LUUUCAS CROOOOWE.
Justin Tyme and his goons wander over to the commentary table again, gloating and high fiving each other. Justin grabs the commentary headset again.
Justin Tyme: You see Alma? A game plan, that’s all you need.
Alecia Matthews: No, apparently what Lucas needs is hired guns and a psychopath in his corner. And what you need is serious mental assessment.
Justin Tyme: That’s why you’re sitting there and my protégé is in that ring holding a championship over his head. Because you clearly don’t know what a person needs to be successful in this business today. He needs hustle behind the muscle and I’m just that guy. You’re just going to have to live with it.
Justin throws the headset down on the table. Justin and the hired guns enter the ring to celebrate with Lucas Crowe. Justin’s henchmen kick the limp body of Zoe Schaefer under the bottom rope to the floor to allow for a clean ring in which to celebrate Lucas’ victory. Justin Tyme shoos the referee away and raises Lucas Crowe's hand in victory. The gang of four exit the ring and walk up the ramp to the back.
