We open at daylight over a swampy marshland. Luke Harper stomps through the water and stops in his tracks. He reaches down and pulls up a baby alligator. He wrestles with it for a moment. A voice calls from off camera, “Harper!” He ignores it. “Luke Harper!” He continues to wrestle with the reptile until wrapping a tie around its snout. “Brodie…” Harper finally turns around, and the camera pans up to a man in wrestling boots, ripped jean shorts, a Hawaiian shirt, and aviator sunglasses, but the sun’s glare behind him obscures his face. He steps down the hill, “I’m Detective Dan Barry. I’m looking for someone, and I need your help.” Harper smirks, “My help? I already answered your questions at the SLAM offices, buddy.” Barry shakes his head, “No, this time I just need a favor. Your friend, Rowan, runs a winery out in California. I need to get to his wine tasting.” Harper tucks the gator under his arm, it oddly doesn’t appear to be moving at all now, “What makes you think I’d have an invitation?” Barry looks down at his Team Tremendous shirt under his Hawaiian shirt. “You were tag team partners, that’s a bond that doesn’t break by distance.” Harper reaches into his back pocket and pulls out a crisp envelope, “I won’t be using it. Someone might as well.” Barry takes it from his hand and reads the invitation, then looks up. “One more question: what’s with the alligator? We’re in New Jersey.” Harper taps the alligator’s hollow head, revealing it as plastic. “I don’t know, I just saw you coming with the cameras, thought it might help build setting.” Barry shrugs, “I don’t really think it worked.” Harper drops it on the ground, “Nah, probably not.” The camera pans out to show they are actually just in Harper’s backyard, where he has a rather expensive-looking house. Barry starts away, “Well, uhh, thanks for this.” He holds up the invitation and starts to walk away. Harper nods, “Anytime,” as the camera fades to black.
SLAM WARS Episode #1: MENACE
Philadelphia, PA | Jan. 23, 2016
The opening video airs for MENACE, of course starting with a scrolling text detailing the events taking place “A short while ago in a land far, far away – across the Pacific Ocean in Japan…” Jamie Noble defeated Paige in a steel cage main event, KENTA made his return to the company, the Balor Club looked dominant, Celeste Bonin won a contender’s match by disqualification when “Crazy” Mary Dobson made a surprise appearance, ending with a piledriver on the floor. A camera pans the sold out “Arena” in Philadelphia with fans cheering loudly, holding signs, and chanting for SLAM!’s color commentator, Paul Heyman, who welcomes everyone to the show alongside play-by-play man Jim Ross.
MATCH #1 | Joe Hennig vs. Seth Rollins (Singles Match)
A heavy rock beat blasts over the speakers and Seth Rollins returns to the Arena, headbanging towards the crowd before running down to the ring, receiving a warm reaction from the crowd. Joe Hennig makes his way down the aisle with a microphone, saying that he is tired of being viewed as the doormat to debuting stars, and that tonight, he'll defeat Rollins. While Rollins jumps Hennig off the bell, he does take control of the match, keeping the high-flying Rollins on the mat with several holds and stiff elbows and knees. Eventually, Rollins turns the momentum around takes control of the match, hitting a springboard knee out of the corner and then bouncing off the ropes to drop Hennig face-first to the mat with the Blackout. Rollins hooks the leg and earns a pinfall victory.
A video package highlights the upcoming debut of Kevin Steen! The video highlights some of his most violent actions and interactions, ending with a crowd chanting “Fight Steen Fight!”
A familiar trumpet flare hits over the speakers and “El Patron” Alberto makes his way down the entrance ramp alongside Rodriguez. He grabs a microphone, “Orale! Viva el Patron! It is good to be back in this ring! You know, Samoa Joe knocked me pretty good, but as everyone knows, the day Alberto gets knocked down and doesn’t get back es su muerte – the day I die. Now, I heard Rob Conway is issuing un desafío abierto for the World Class Championship, and I’m healthy and ready to go!”
Zeb Colter and Jamie Noble interrupt with their entrance theme cutting off Alberto. Colter has a microphone in his hand and he begins as the pair enter the ring. “Alberto, Alberto, Alberto… You must have been knocked silly if you think a man – well, simply put, a man such as yourself – should be the one to lead this company through a new era. Maybe you don’t get the internet in ‘Meh-he-co,’ but Jamie Noble has won every step of the way, including inside a 15-foot high steel cage. And tonight, there’s already a name on that Open Invitation contract, and it’s the Redneck Messiah.”
El Patron steps up and gets in the face of Noble. Colter backs down, as does Rodriguez, whose arm is in a sling thanks to the previous assault by Samoa Joe. Before the pair can come to blows, Rodriguez gets tripped up from behind as Samoa Joe himself has entered the arena through the crowd. He slides into the ring and attacks El Patron. He and Noble begin a two-on-one assault of Alberto, but before they can do much damage, the theme music of the APA chimes through the speakers and Faarooq and Bradshaw run down to the ring. Joe and Noble bail from the ring, as the Acolytes allow El Patron to get to his feet. “Excuse me, excuse me,” a voice echoes through the speakers. Brad Maddox stands on the top of the entranceway with a microphone. “Gentleman, allow to me to reintroduce myself: my name is Maddox, and I have been selected to serve as the Interim Commissioner for SLAM! Wrestling. I’m looking at what is in the ring right now and see that Alberto just got healthy, and Joe just got off suspension, and while Jamie Noble has a match tonight, I see a great opportunity for next month’s show, when we will see El Patron, Alberto, joined by a partner of his choice against Samoa Joe and Jamie Noble in tag team action. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have commissioning… commissionering… commishing… I have work to do.” Maddox leaves, and El Patron nods his head as he leaves alongside the APA. Joe and Noble glare at each other and back at Alberto.
A video airs of a masked luchadore performing flips and high-flying acts. He performs an asai moonsault and lands directly on his head! He crumbles to the mat, and a title card flashes over the screen “Sin Cara… is not coming to SLAM!”
Match #2 | Charlotte Flair & Emma of the Revolution vs. local talents (Tag Team Match)
Two local competitors stand in the ring as we return, getting no introduction by announcer Tom Phillips or the commentators. The members of "The Revolution" make their way down the entryway, slapping hands with fans as they enter. Charlotte begins the match against the less-tattooed of the two men in plain white trunks and kickpads. She hits some of her spots before he gets a desperation tag. The goateed, tattooed talent enters the ring and drops Charlotte with a back elbow. Emma comes into the ring and drops him with neckbreaker. Before the action can continue, The Bunny begins hopping hurriedly down the entrance ramp and around the ring. Adam Rose and El Torito follow shortly behind with Rose carrying a rope. Not distracted by the goings-on outside the ring, Charlotte and Emma each lock one of their foes in their signature holds - the Figure 8 and the Emma Lock, for a submission victory. Meanwhile, El Torito and Rose go around either side of the ring. Rose stops the Bunny in his tracks and El Torito jumps on his back. This allows Rose to grab him with the rope! The Bunny looks disappointed, or as much as one can when his face only makes on expression. Rose and Torito drag the Bunny to the back while the Revolution members celebrate, albeit confused by the Party Animals.
Backstage, Tom Phillips catches up with Samoa Joe and Jamie Noble in the locker room. Joe answers his question on if they are concerned about their upcoming tag team match next month against Alberto, knowing they won’t know his partner until later on, “Tom, of course we aren’t concerned. You’re looking at a man who knocked Alberto out of commission for three months, myself, and the man who tonight will become the next World Class Champion of SLAM! Wrestling, Jamie Noble. Alberto better hope his buddy Rodriguez is healthy and dumber than he looks, because no one else is going to step up and be his partner.
Match #3 | The Hurricane vs. Stardust (Singles Match)
The lights fade on the arena and Stardust makes his way to the ring, wearing a different mask than usual, featuring less detail and more gold. He wears a black hooded jacket and taunts to the crowd, which lets out a chorus of boos for the man causing so much disruption. As the lights return, The Hurricane jumps Stardust from behind. He knocks him down and immediately begins clawing at the mask. He pulls it off to reveal -- Matt Sydal? Hurricane's assault is quickly ended by an attacking Ascension behind him. Konnor and Viktor and eventually the entire trio all attack Hurricane. Cody Rhodes and Goldust hit the ring, chasing off Sydal and the Ascension. Interim commissioner Maddox walks out on the stage behind them. He says that he does not break promises to fans, and they will see The Hurricane in action tonight -- it will be Hurricane and the Rhodes Brothers against the Ascension and Matt Sydal in a bonus main event.
A spoof campaign ad interrupts the broadcast, showing stock video of some of America’s most famous landmarks: Mount Rushmore, the Grand Canyon, the Liberty Bell, etc. Mixed in are photos of SLAM! Wrestling’s stars. The familiar voiceover begins, “Today’s wrestling landscape has offered so many opportunities to so many characters. The women are revolutionizing like never before; Hispanic and Asian and African American stars are as popular as ever. But when I look out at what makes this business great, I just don’t see it – not in SLAM! Wrestling. It’s time to Make Wrestling Great Again. Follow me, and together, we will right the wrongs of the past several years. All you have to do – is BOLIEVE. My name is Bo Dallas, and I approve this message.”
Match #4 | Bryan Danielson vs. Tyler Breeze (Singles Match)
"Prince Pretty" makes his way down the entryway, admiring himself in the phone at the end of his selfie stick. Breeze climbs into the ring and gives a blue steel towards the camera. "The Final Countdown" hits over the speakers, and the crowd immediately begins to chant "Yes" as they await Bryan Danielson's entrance. "American Dragon" makes his way out on the stage, his hooded robe partially over his head. He gets down to ringside, one finger pointed in the air, and Breeze smacks him in the kidney with the selfie stick! The lights return above the ring and Breeze tosses Danielson shoulder-first into the ring post, showing a new fire since falling to Rob Conway in the World Championship. Breeze controls much of the match in the early going, focusing on the shoulders and back of Danielson. Eventually, AmDrag begins to fight back, gaining momentum by striking Breeze in the back and shoulders himself. Danielson goes for the Yes Lock, but can't quite lock the arms, thanks to Breeze's early assault on his shoulder. Breeze uses this opening to roll Dragon onto his shoulders, but he in turn rolls out. Both men get to their feet, and Breeze smacks Danielson with a Supermodel Kick! He goes for the pin, but Danielson gets a foot on the rope. Breeze pulls him toward the center of the ring, but Danielson kicks his legs out from under him. He immediately jumps on Breeze and locks in Cattle Mutilation! Breeze kicks his legs to try to reach the ropes but can't fight out of it. He shakes his hand in the air, admitting defeat and submitting to Danielson. The Dragon releases the hold, gripping his shoulder again, having used all his strength to lock in the hold. Breeze rolls to the corner. The referee holds up Danielson's other arm as he gets to his feet.
Jonathan Coachman opens the Intermission Show from the studios at SLAM! headquarters. He promises an interview with the Super X Cup Holder Kimber Lee, as well as some big news about future challenges, but first gets into the highlights from before the WF Network event live from Philadelphia. In the opener, KENTA made his return to American soil and dispatched Dean Malenko with the Go 2 Sleep after a back-and-forth technical bout. The second match saw the Balor Club taking on the Hart Dynasty in Tag Trios action. After some tension between Tyson Kidd, Natalya, and Davey Boy Smith, Jr. last month in Japan, the trio seemed to be working together early. However, when Natalya needs a tag and Kidd slaps his wife's hand instead of turning to Smith, the big man enters the ring and levels Kidd with a clothesline. He plants Kidd with a running powerslam, leaving him down in the corner. Smith throws up a "2 Sweet" sign to Balor. Natalya attacks Smith from behind, but he pushes her back into the corner, allowing Balor to hit the Coup de Grace on Kidd for a pinfall victory. Smith celebrates with the Balor Club after the match. Returning to the studio, Coach gets a satellite interview with Kimber Lee. First, he announces a surprise mini event from SLAM! planned for National Pro-Wrestling Day on February 6. The event will feature a mini-tournament akin to the original Super X Cup championship tournament where six superstars will compete in two triple threat matches with the competitor who takes the pinfall eliminated while the remaining four move on to a Four Way Elimination main event for a future shot at holding the Super X Cup.
Kimber joins Coach, and of course, the first question is about this new development. “I’m very excited to see what this tournament has to offer. I welcome any challenge, and honestly, I hope we get to see some top competition in a couple weeks.” Coach asks Kimber next about the challenges that the female competitors have faced by people such as Zeb Colter and Jamie Noble. “You know, I don’t pay a lot of attention to that. I know what I’ve been able to accomplish. I obviously have done a few things right to win this trophy, to win championships in other companies. If Jamie Noble wants me to prove it, I’ll take him on as well.” Coach asks Kimber if she has any closing comments, “No, not really. Just, good luck to the competitors on National Pro-Wrestling Day. I’ll be watching!”

Match #5 | A.J. Lee & Celeste Bonin aka “The Chickbusters” vs. Crazy Mary Dobson & Naomi Knight (Tag Match)
Returning to the arena, “Money & Power” plays over the speakers and the quartet of the same name makes its way to the ring, with the Tag Trios Champions Big E Langston, Mark Henry, and MVP accompanying Naomi Knight to the ring. The crowd gives a mixed reaction to the champions and Naomi. A horror-like scream and music echoes through the arena as “Crazy” Mary enters the arena, a hockey mask covering her face. She climbs into the ring with her unlikely partner, peeling off the mask and staring into the hard camera. Celeste’s music plays over the speakers, and she and A.J. Lee make their way down the entryway together. They climb into the ring, and the other women bail from the ring. Before the action can begin, Sami Zayn’s music hits and the trio known as the “SLAM! All Stars” charge the ring. Zayn, Adrian Neville, and C.M. Punk make a beeline for the Tag Trios Champs, and the six end up brawling out through the crowd and out of the arena. The match itself is pretty standard affair. Dobson and Knight take turns keeping Lee away from the “Beauty and Brawn of SLAM!” Eventually, she gets the tag to Celeste, who relishes the opportunity to take it to Crazy Mary, who cost her an important match last month. Eventually, Dobson gets away from Celeste and tags in Knight, but Bonin follows her to the outside. Due to the licha libre rules used for tag matches in SLAM!, this brings Lee back in behind Knight, and after a quick flurry, she locks Knight in the Black Widow! Crazy Mary sees her locked in the hold, but leaves up the ramp, Celeste following behind as Naomi taps out.
Backstage, Tommy Dreamer speaks with Joey Mercury outside of the APA’s “office,” where Interim Commissioner Maddox is hard at work on a laptop while Bradshaw and Faarooq play cards near him. The Arena Crowd pops for the two ECW originals. Dreamer asks Mercury, “so, how is that detective you guys hired doing?” Mercury nods, “You know, he’s surprisingly capable. He seems to ask all the right questions. He doesn’t dress great, but I think he’ll get to the bottom of it.” Dreamer looks around, “What about Stardust? I mean, the laugh, the whole anti-hero thing – we’ve seen him now tonight he’s got Sydal. He was there last month in Tokyo when Fitz got kidnapped.” Mercury shakes his head, “His story checks out. The guy was too tall to be Sydal. The laugh may have been a red herring. And so far, Stardust is weird, he’s annoying to Hurricane and the Rhodes Brothers, but he’s not overly dangerous. I guess we’ll find out.”
Main Event | Rob Conway defends vs. Jamie Noble (World Class Championship)
“The Redneck Messiah” makes his way down the entryway first, telling Zeb Colter to stay backstage as he sets out to prove himself against the World Class Champion. The crowd lets Noble hear it as he climbs into the ring. “Iron Man” Rob Conway makes his way down next, receiving a mixed reaction, but getting a ‘pop’ when he raises the championship up in the air. After proper championship introductions, the pair lock up. The match is a fairly standard technical bout, with Noble focusing on Conway’s legs to set up for the Trailer Hitch while the champ focused on Noble’s neck and shoulders to set up for his neckbreaker finish. In a similar war to Conway’s match-up against Sting two months ago, he seemingly looked defeated, locked in the Hitch in the center of the ring. As he climbs to the ropes, Zeb Colter comes down to the ring. He pulls the ropes away from Conway, but the referee sees it, forcing Noble to break the hold! Noble gets up and yells at Colter to leave, allowing the champ enough time to get to his feet. He grabs Noble and lifts his legs up on the ropes before drilling him to the mat with the Iron Lung. Conway pulls Noble to the center of the ring and hooks the leg for a pinfall victory and successful title defense.
Backstage, MVP is seething, while Naomi Knight tries to calm him. Mark Henry and Big E Langston stand by behind him as well. “I am sick and tired of CM Punk, Sami Zayn, and Adrian Neville! Next month, we are ending this, once and for all. Tag Trios match, and when we beat them, they never get another shot again – I’ll even put the belts up for them.” Big E and Mark Henry each look surprised. Big E asks, “You don’t think the boss is gonna be mad about this?” MVP slaps his chest, “I don’t care what the BOSS has to say about it.” MVP storms off, and Naomi follows behind him. The other two look scared.
Encore | Cody Rhodes, Goldust, & Hurricane vs. The Ascension & Matt Sydal (Tag Trios Match)
The Hurricane and the Rhodes Brothers make their way down the rampway first, looking angry and fired up to take on the latest roadblock on their path to get revenge for the attack on Hurricane last fall. A heavy metal drumbeat flares up and images of the illuminati fill the screen as The Ascension makes their entrance. Matt Sydal follows behind. The trios action is off in a hurry as Hurricane starts, immediately taking it to the Ascension. SLAM! Wrestling’s caped crusader is hot early, dumping Viktor from the ring which brings in Konnor. Konnor tosses Hurricane out, bringing in Goldust. The battle between the Rhodes brothers and the Ascension quickly devolves the match-up into a brawl. Eventually, their third partner gets distracted – Stardust makes an appearance on the stage, drawing the Hurricane out of the ring. Stardust disappears to the back, and Hurricane follows him out back. Cut down to 3-on-2 odds, the Rhodes brothers put up a valiant effort. Eventually, Bourne takes Goldust to the outside allowing Konnor and Viktor to drop Cody Rhodes with Fall of Man for the pinfall victory.
The camera fades out and we see video from outside of a building, “Sheep’s Clothes Winery,” and then fades to the interior. Several wrestling luminaries are at a wine tasting inside, including SLAM! Hall of Famer Triple H joins his wife Stephanie McMahon. Former reality television star Mike Mizanin and his wife, former SLAM! star Maryse Ouellet, admire the smoking jacket of the “Intellectual Savior” Damien Sandow. John Cena and Nikki Bella of Fury Pro are at a bar, where Jerry “The King” Lawler and his latest squeeze speak with them. The Undertaker and Michelle McCool chat politics with Kane, in his most corporate attire. Rowan, the award winning vintner behind Sheep’s Clothes stands in a corner and admires his guests. A man walks in that sticks out like neon: wearing a hawaiian shirt and jean shorts, “Detective” Dan Barry takes off his aviator sunglasses and looks around the room. He walks up to a bar where braodcast personality Renee Young talks to someone in a leather jacket with his head down. “Will you excuse us for a moment, Ms. Young?” Renee nods and walks away, as Dean Ambrose lifts his head. Skipping the pleasantries, the ragged Ambrose asks, “What do you want?” Barry sidles up on the stool next to him, “I’m looking into information regarding the disappearance of Commissioner Gregg Fitzsimmons. You’re the last member of the SLAM! roster I’ve had a chance to speak with: you’re a hard man to find.” Ambrose pulls a flask from inside his jacket and sips it, “I like it better that way.” Barry slips his glasses on his collar, “You know, your friend Rollins is there now. Asked me about you. A few losses shouldn’t make you quit. I know I have more than a handful on my record.” Ambrose shakes his head, “We all don’t have another job to fall back on.” Barry looks him in the eyes, “… which is why I thought you might know where somebody might have hired a mercenary to kidnap Fitzsimmons.” Ambrose smiles, “So, you think I’m behind this?” Barry shakes his head, “Not really. But I think you can help me. Let’s chat somewhere private.” Dean looks directly into the camera, “Let’s.”
