I have always had my toe dipped in the water with wrestling figures, but the overall quality Mattel has shown is amazing.
That being said, so many of the Jakks figures were amazing for their time,
Still, I would not have dived in headfirst had the Mattel quality not brought me back..
I still collect from all lines I have interest in, but I have no issue buying someone I like from Mattel no questions asked.

9 people need to stay out of the Mattel portion of this board Ha ha ha! On a night where we're so undermanned at work that I don't get to take a lunch break + I'll probably be here until 2 am, thank you for making me Laugh Out Loud for real with this post. Curse you non-Mattel infidels!

Jakks had much more variety, lower retail prices and better head scans.
Mattel has better Championship Title Belts, articulation, and appearance.
Being that Championship Title Belts are my only reason for collecting, I pick "Mattel, but Jakks was alright too."

Jakks was great when they were the "it" company. Now that Mattel has the license, they took the product and launched it a step further. But, even Mattel has its blunders. Head sculpts- Jakks Paint apps - Jakks ( offered a variety to hair/shades) Deco detail - Mattel ( Jakks never painted the backs of figures attire) Accessories- Jakks. Dumpsters, Toilets, glass windows, shopping carts, and even a kitchen sink. Jakks made toys fun to play with. Roster selection- Jakks. No arguments here. Articulation- Mattel Packaging appeal- Jakks. They kept the collector in mind with the Classic Series, throughout its run, the carding never changed. Why? All for the MOC collectors. Fan Interaction- Jakks. Bill is awesome. I will never complain about his duties, or his free time he gives to us. But Jeremy seemed to have taken every available moment to give us updates or hello's.
Jakks wasn't that bad. They graduated multiple times, from BCA's to TTL's to better articulated TTL's, to R3's and half rubber figures, to RA's and finally DA's. They even gave us a hand full of LJN stylized CS figures.
I would still walk away with a Mattel figure if I had to choose, but, I will say this. Its been 6 years. Let JAKKS R.I.P!

Some of them are downright ridiculous. Jakks RA figures were poorly engineered and were never improved upon. Jakks headscans just might be the most overrated aspect of any action figure line...ever. Nearly every Jakks scan has a superior Mattel counterpart.

Deco detail - Mattel ( Jakks never painted the backs of figures attire) 'Never' is a pretty ridiculous statement. Not saying it didn't happen, but you could probably count the number of times it happened on one hand. No to every time you gave the edge to Jakks. Some of them are downright ridiculous. The first one - I prefer the overall quality and "less-roided" look of Mattel's figures. But Jakks was OK too... they did some great scans and I liked the accessories.

Jakks got it plus the paint nearly 8 times out of 10.

Unless it was trunks designs.

I was mostly collecting classics, but I really only remember this happening with The Rockers, Matt Hardy and Billy Gunn. I know in the later years we got a lot of detail cuts though.

In hindsight. Mattel. If ur talkin Ra's. Even for that time period they were a bit out of date. DA was an improvement until everyone had incredible hulk arms. Still they had/have their charm but I much prefer Mattel if I had the choice.

JAKKS were better to play with but Mattels look and feel better. I don't see why JAKKS gets so much hate, their classic superstar line was better than the Legends line by Mattel. Overall I chose Mattel but JAKKS are alright too.

For me Jakks will always be better.
Jakks had a bigger variety of characters in their figure line. Jakks came with accessories. And Jakks cost about half what Mattel costs. All Mattel did was improve on what Jakks did and charge double while giving you less.
I like that Mattel made the basics compatible with the elites though. But again, hindsight is 20/20.
I almost forgot, the face sculpts on Jakks are far superior to Mattels.

I can think of very few, if any, cases where Mattel didn't make a better sculpt than any Jakks ever did. Jakks also had many more absolutely terrible sculpts than Mattel has produced. I honestly don't think this debate is even close. Mattel's WWE figures compare very well with other mass market action figures available today. Jakks, when they were available...always lagged behind other lines. The packaging for Mattel's figures is also superior.
