Ghost is apart of the cast to me. I'd be more upset with Ghost dying than like 95% of the other characters on the show. I don't foresee that happening, but I would be truly upset. The direwolves have been treated as expendable props as of late. Grey Wind's murder was unbelievably brutal, as was what followed with him serving as a hood ornament. I always looked at the Starks and the direwolves like I did humans and daemons in The Golden Compass. The wolves are apart of their being. Seems like the emphasis on that connection has fluttered off over the seasons.

I went ahead and read the spoilers before watching the episode since I knew I wasn't going to be able to watch till Wednesday but that didn't help soften the blow of that final sequence, and I bet if Hodor and Bran would've been around in Season 5 and had more screen time this would've hurt even more somehow.

Wow. After all this time, Uncle Benjen turns out to still be alive. Well, kind of. I suppose this confirms Coldhands = Benjen theory from the books. Regardless, super excited to see Benjen back in action.
Arya's story is finally getting exciting again. Looking forward to see where that goes.
Tommen is an idiot. Margaery is definitely playing some people. Excited to finally see Jaime in the Riverlands.
Okay I know he's a real bastard, but Walder Frey is too damn hilarious. Him scolding his sons for losing Riverrun was amazing.
Glad they properly showed how big of a dick Sam's dad is. Sam stealing Heartsbane and legging it out of Horn Hill was great.

Really awesome episode for the good guys tonight. I was very excited to see Benjen back and the evolution of Sam into a badass. The show has so many moments where favorites are killed off and it seems like there's no hope, but this season has really worked to give hope back to certain characters and I can't wait to see what's next. My only gripe is we get 10 episodes then wait an entire year to see more.

Enjoyed everything except the very end. It just felt like cheap fan-service to me. I was hoping Arya would follow through on her mission. I would have been fine with her having a different path in life.

Bah that ending. There isn't a character I hate more than Daenerys. Like, I came to the realization I would actively root for Ramsay over her. Okay I know he's a real bastard, but Walder Frey is too damn hilarious. Him scolding his sons for losing Riverrun was amazing. He's like a combination of Emperor Palpatine and Larry Flynt. |

Solid episode overall. 1) Benjen returning was pretty cool and unexpected. 2) The whole Sam story was much more intriguing than I expected. 3) Walder Frey! LOL I hate the guy, but I have to say he's  ing hilarious. 4) Kind of disappointed with King's Landing. I'm assuming Margaery has something up her sleeve. I hope so anyway. The Faith Militant are really annoying. It feels weird cheering for the Lannisters. 5) Soooo glad Arya is back to her old self. I hope she kills that faceless bitch next week. 6) The ending of the episode was okay. Dany's storyline is kind of losing my interest. I really liked it when she started working with Tyrion. But also, as I've stated many times already, I just hate the recasted Daario so much. Every scene with him makes me cringe. Why oh why did they replace the amazing Ed Skrein?  4 episodes left! **** has to hit the fan pretty soon. |

A couple of major book spoilers in the tag below: The next episode is titled "The Broken Man". This week Cersei mentioned her trial by combat and the Mountain will be fighting for her. I am 95% convinced that the Hound returns next week. Get Hype!
Also, the Freys mentioned the Brotherhood Without Banners causing trouble for them in the Riverlands. Jaime and Brienne are both headed for the Riverlands. Walder talked about Cat and Bran had a vision of the Red Wedding. Is this the season Lady Stoneheart finally appears? |

I thought this was a pretty lackluster episode. I would've ended it with the Bran stuff instead of Daenerys stuff since it was more action packed. I understand they probably did it that way because of the dragon but meh. It's not like she didn't already have the Darthraki under her thumb after killing their entire power hierarchy. The Arya stuff was cool, if expected and it'll be interesting to see the fight between her and the blonde girl. I think the Lannister/High Sparrow stuff got more interesting with Tommen taking his side but it's still the least interesting stuff in the show aside from the Sandsnakes stuff. Hopefully this was just a slow episode and it picks back up next week.

I liked the Dany moment. The Dothraki are terrified of getting on ships and going across the water. They have to truly believe. The fireproof moment was a clincher but the dragon guarantees her an army that will literally do anything for her. It took what was seemingly a myth or tall tale and turned it into something tangible and real. It's the same way nobody believes the white walkers are real until they see them.
Arya going to get needle was great. That was the first time in a long while where I actively got behind her.
Still incredibly frustrated by the King's Landing stuff. Margaery is playing the game, but I have no idea what that game is supposed to be. I'm torn between thinking she's doing this just to get rid of Cersei. She could have used Tommen's loyalty as a bargaining chip to free her brother, but what a slippery slope to bed with the Sparrow, who she can't control. Regardless, Jaime getting out of there is good for everyone, plus more Bronn. None of them matter though, still. I'm curious what happens if Tommen dies, which I hope is coming soon. That could send the kingdom into chaos just before Dany and/or the White Walkers arrive.
Sam has Heartsbane. So that's important. Sam's like Euron. I don't care about him but he's a means to an end.
Bran's story is always too short. I feel like we're getting all kinds of hints in those visions. Not sure if anyone slowed any of those down but I'm guessing the baby was Jon Snow. I also think the Mad King might not be as totally mad as we think or as legend would lead us to believe. I guess we'll see on that second point as we get more of the past revealed. I've been waiting for Benjen to pop back up for awhile now. How he is still alive though was incredibly telling.

But they need to be very careful with the precedent they're setting. One thing that makes Game of thrones such an emotionally intriguing show is the cruel way we lose characters. And unlike Walking Dead, where the best characters are killed just for the sake of doing so and right before their story actually becomes interesting, GOT deaths have meaning most of the time. I feel like bringing that character in the fold starts to "cheapen" death on the show. Because let's be realistic... If anyone had that power, they would use it all the ing time. It's hard to live that down. So it's better just to ignore it as much as possible and only use it when it was absolutely necessary. Snow was a good exception. But bringing that character you speak of is too much in my opinion. If that character actually does make it into the show, I'll reserve final judgment until I actually see it. But at this point, I feel the show is better without. |

bit of a let down, i wanted to see the mountain destroy the high sparrow's army. powerful twist though.
awesome how sam took his old craphead father's sword.
i'm happy that bram is not under the tree and that arya is not stuck in the faceless gods training. i'd tired of that by the beginning of this season. i understand they have to drag certain things but yeesh.
and nothing like finishing an episode with a dragon scene...lol
