WWE RAW RECAP January 25th 2016
- One night after Triple H made history by becoming the WWE World Heavyweight Champion in the Royal Rumble he was at it again. The new champion, accompanied by Stephanie McMahon, kicked off the show to talk about how he never had any plans to enter the Royal Rumble, but he couldn’t keep watching Roman Reigns tarnish the WWE the way he has in recent weeks. They went on to announce that Triple H will indeed be defending the title… but not at Fast Lane. No, instead at Fast Lane they will crown a new number one contender when six men, who will be determined next week, clash… in an Elimination Chamber match!
The Authority didn’t have the ring for long when they were interrupted by Dean Ambrose, who said that Triple H knows how close he came to being eliminated last night. Ambrose says that they both know that if he got another shot then the outcome would be different. Stephanie told Ambrose that she doubts it, but he’ll get his shot if he can win in the Elimination Chamber, that is if he qualifies next week. Ambrose wouldn’t be having the week off though, no, because later on tonight he would defend the WWE Intercontinental Championship in a street fight against Kevin Owens!
- In the opening contest of the night The Lucha Dragons came up short against the League of Nations in tag team action when Barrett pinned Sin Cara with the Bullhammer. Following the match the entire League dismantled Kalisto as Del Rio made it very clear that he still wants the United States Championship back. Later in the night the League of Nations would be approached by Stephanie McMahon, who had a proposition for them…
- The Diva’s Division continues to heat up. Charlotte and Ric Flair hit the ring, talking about the Royal Rumble and the actions of Sasha Banks. Sasha Banks of course wasn’t going to let her name be spoken without making an appearance, Team B.A.D coming out to talk smack about Charlotte, Sasha making it very clear that she considers herself the stallion of the so called Four Horsewomen and that the rest are show-ponies. In short order both Becky Lynch and Brie Bella made their claims for the WWE Diva’s Championship heard, leading to a six diva’s tag match. Despite being a dysfunctional team Charlotte, Lynch and Brie would get the victory and after the match Charlotte found herself laid out by Brie’s Bella Buster as the target on her back grows ever bigger.
- As it turns out Paul Heyman didn’t take too kindly to learning about the Elimination Chamber, telling The Authority backstage that his client Brock Lesnar should be the rightful number one contender to the title. Triple H, throwing his weight around, told Paul that if Lesnar wants a title shot then not only will he have to compete inside the chamber just like everybody else, but he’ll have to qualify like everyone else as well, which means if Lesnar wants to challenge him at WrestleMania, he’ll have to show up next week and compete on RAW!
- Following his shocking debut in the WWE A.J. Styles made his RAW debut on Miz TV. The Miz however wasn’t too interested in hearing about the accomplishments of the independent and Japanese wrestling sensation, instead choosing to make the entire show about himself. This didn’t sit too well with A.J., who ended up jumping Miz and sending him running. A.J. would challenge Miz to a match there and then, a challenge a cocky Miz would accept on the spot, and the Phenomenal One would go on to pick up his first RAW win with the Calf Killer. In a backstage exclusive video The Miz would go on to challenge Styles to a rematch this coming Thursday on SmackDown!
- Roman Reigns would make his first appearance since losing the WWE World Heavyweight Championship when he appeared backstage to warn Ambrose that The Authority were out to screw him. Ambrose might be crazy, but he isn’t stupid, he knows what he’s getting into, and he can handle himself just fine. Is there tension brewing between the former Shield teammates?
- The Social Outcasts claimed to be the ‘most entertaining group’ in pro-wrestling which, as you’d expect, didn’t get a particularly positive reaction from The New Day. A comedic back and forth between the two trios, and a whole load of “booties” being thrown about led to a six man tag team match (Heath Slater and Francesca had to sit it out) with the WWE World Tag Team Champions coming out victorious. Later in the night The New Day found themselves challenged not only by The Prime Time Players but by The Uso’s too. It’s not a good time to be the tag champions it seems.
- In other, slightly more bizarre, tag team developments it seems that Goldust wants to enlist R-Truth as his newest tag team partner. Truth seemed straight up revolted at the idea of teaming with the Golden One though, brushing him off. Will Goldust be deterred so easily?
- Dolph Ziggler & Neville should be more careful about bad mouthing The Authority because, even when you do it backstage, you never know who is listening. That’s what happened tonight on RAW as Stephanie McMahon overheard the pair joking about Triple H’s latest WWE World Heavyweight Championship match and immediately put them in a match against each other, with the loser being excluded from the Elimination Chamber qualifying next week. In a fast paced, back and forth affair it was Dolph that came out on top, though he knows that there’s a long way to go if he wants to topple Triple H and The Authority once more.
- Big Show & Kane came out on top in a fairly simple clash against The Ascension, but it was The Wyatt Family who made the impact tonight, the foursome appearing in the ring when the lights went out and dismantling the two giants to the shock of the crowd. Bray Wyatt stood over the two fallen behemoths of the WWE, sending out a grim warning that they were done playing, and that real change is coming to the WWE.
- Dean Ambrose and Kevin Owens went to war over the WWE Intercontinental Championship once again just one night after their Last Man Standing match. Just like at the Royal Rumble this match was brutal, with both men pulling out all the stops to try and put the other one away. However, despite being pop-up powerbombed through two steel chairs (not on, but through) Ambrose just wouldn’t die, the Lunatic Fringe coming back for more time and time again. His persistence paid off and it looked like game over for Kevin Owens after a Dirty Deeds (from the top rope through a table no less!) only for the League of Nations to strike, clearly under the orders of The Authority. Ambrose was in the midst of being picked apart by “the lads” when Roman Reigns appeared to make the save, fighting off the League with a steel chair. The beating, and the subsequent distraction of Reigns, made all the difference through as Kevin Owens hit another pop-up powerbomb and stole the WWE Intercontinetal Championship right out from under Ambrose. RAW went off the air with Roman Reigns and a battered Dean Ambrose staring down a clapping Triple H on the stage, flanked by the League of Nations and Kevin Owens. The road to WrestleMania is going to be a bumpy one.

NXT RECAP 27th January 2016
- Alex Riley made his return to NXT following an injury but it was not the kind of homecoming that he would have been hoping for. No, instead Riley found himself berated by Tye Dillinger for being “about a four” unlike himself, who is obviously a perfect ten. Dillinger proceeded to back up his words though, besting Riley fair and square. Dillinger however didn’t take kindly to his post-match glory being stolen by new NXT signee Manny Andrade, who was in the crowd (along with NXT trainer Sarah Stock), watching the show. Dillinger complained to NXT general manager William Regal later in the show, and Regal told him that he should up his game. Dillinger, as you’d expect, didn’t like this one bit, screaming about how he was a perfect ten all the way out of the office.
- Eva Marie, with a considerable bit of help (read: a massive boot to the skull), defeated Billie Kay in singles action. Eva Marie wasn’t content with the victory, and especially not with the chorus of “you can’t wrestle” chants the NXT universe were throwing her way. Eva Marie bemoaned the fact that “lower women” like Bayley and Asuka are getting all the attention around here when really NXT is all about someone like her, a beautiful woman who kicks ass and looks good doing it. Eva Marie promised that things are going to change around her, and that they’ll soon be living in the Red Kingdom with her as their queen.
- The Realest Guys in the Room (how you doin’?) came out on top as Enzo & Big Cass overcame former NXT Tag Team Champions Blake & Murphy in a relatively straightforward tag team match. The important bit came after, as Enzo & Cass declared they wanted one more shot at the NXT Tag Team Champions and that they’d do anything to get it. They want an answer next week and tell Dash & Dawson, now going by The Revival, not to be SAWFT!
- The main event saw Sami Zayn, Samoa Joe and Baron Corbin all clash for the rights to be the number one contender to Finn Balor’s NXT Championship. All three men went into this match like a house on fire, knowing full well that with NXT Takeover: Dallas coming up this match was an opportunity to book their place at the top of NXT’s WrestleMania. A brutal and fast paced contest ensued with all three men looking capable of winning. Despite being overpowered by both opponents it looked set to be Sami Zayn’s night, the former NXT Champion’s heart and spirit letting him power through everything that was thrown at him. Zayn eventually managed to lock Corbin in the sharpshooter, only for Samoa Joe to dive in at the last minute, locking on the crossface on Corbin! Locked in two separate submission holds Baron Corbin was left with no choice but to tap out! However Sami Zayn and Samoa Joe were both determined winners and, despite Joe nailing Zayn with a post-match Muscle Buster, we were no closer to determining the number one contender.
