Same argument I had with a co-worker. I told him that he is way too talented to be limited to the flying forearm as a finisher. Much like Rollins using the Pedigree. The response I got was AJ won't have just 1 finisher and will use an arsenal of moves. Sure seems to me that Flying forearm gets used alot. Gonna be as common as Deans slingshot clothesline

This reserves Styles Clash and Springboard 420 as Match enders. I like this. Too many true finishers get 2 counts. This way, the speingboard forearm can get many 3 counts and few 2 counts without tainting his better know finishers.

The flying forearm makes perfect sense.
Its not a dangerous move like the Styles Clash is. A lot of the WWE talent (Cena, Orton, Reigns, Kane, Big Show) won't take a Styles Clash well - if at all. But the flying forearm can be done to anyone. And it can be reversed nicely too, into a spear, chokeslam, RKO, etc.

I agree though.

Orton would tear his sholders taking the styles clash lol
I don't the forearm as finish
I do like the calf crusher as a submission finish
He needs a better finish

I hate that AJ Styles keeps doing the forearm hit during his matches, he did it like 3 times when he face Jericho at WM. I'm honestly waiting for AJ Styles to use his Spiral Tap finish. I know he can still do it, but he's said in interviews he only does special moves when he needs to or if it's a big match. He's not getting any younger so it's understandable.

You're not alone, OP - I still regard it as a transitional move.

The Styles Clash isn't a very dangerous move if the person taking it doesn't tuck their neck and sticks it out like you're supposed to. AJ successfully hit it in TNA close to a thousand times, and it only seemed to start injuring people when he came back to the indies. Roddy Strong, Lionheart and Yoshi Tatsu are the only ones I think he injured with it. If you don't tuck your neck, it's not dangerous.

yeah, it's a lame move considering how cool the styles clash is...
...why would reigns refuse to take it?

I don't mind it that much. The thing I do hate is not it has to be set up kind of. Like Ortons ddt on the ropes kills me because you always know what's going to happen.

I just said in the Raw thread that I like what they've done with it. I primarily like it for the fact he can tuck the Clash in his back pocket and use it when it matters. Jayrod's point about all the finisher kickouts is on point too. AJ is like 5'9 in his tall shoes. In the world of WWE he's a flashy high flyer. Plus, the calf killer is awesome. So it's not like he doesn't have that too. I have no issue with it even though I was meh when he first started using it.

I agree though. Cena would take that crap in a heartbeat. Just look at all the moves he took in the Owens matches that I've yet to see in any other KO matches. The dude will do anything for the WWE. But yeah I really think it's the roster not wanting to take the move, he'll even Jericho seemed to be hesitant and he's never had a serious injury.

When Curtis Axel took the move on AJs third night in the company, then again at Fast Lane and Wrestlemania it's pretty obvious that the WWE has no problem letting him do it.
