I thought this might be a fun little thread.
With the NFL Draft having just taken place, and all of the recent talk of a Brand Split/Draft Lottery in WWE again (please, no), I thought it would be interesting to assess the current WWE/NXT Roster in the same way NFL teams do upcoming prospects out of college.
In other words, if you're in a position of power in WWE, who is your "number one draft pick"? This is the guy you're going to build the entire company around - from marketing, to merchandise, public media, the whole nine yards. This is your John Cena, your Stone Cold, your Rock, your Hulk Hogan. Granted, it's unlikely that in this day and age, any one superstar climbs to those types of heights, but regardless.
If you were given the key to the castle today, what basket are you putting your eggs in?
A couple of rules to play by:
-You can choose anyone on the current WWE or NXT roster, but no one not currently employed by the company in some fashion.
-Try to avoid John Cena, because he's currently in that role (though they're trying to transition Reigns into it), and his career is undoubtedly winding down.
-Pick one guy. You can supplement with a lot of strong characters around, but WWE has almost always been a "top guy" promotion, so answer this with that in mind.
---------
Personally, I'd go with Seth Rollins.
Seth proved during his 2014/2015 run at the top that he has all the tools to succeed as a major heel in the company who can actually garner heat, despite being respected by the vast majority of the audience. With that in mind, he's shown tremendous babyface potential with his moveset, and his time in the Shield. He's reliable in the ring and on the microphone, and has proven that he can conduct himself in a professional, and likable manner during press events and interviews. He's young. He's a student of the game, appears to have the respect and backing of his peers, and management. He's got a great look, and is sizable enough to blend in nicely with nearly every type of competitor on the roster, regardless of weight or height. Paired with the right foils, I see no better option currently in the company.
