So I lived in Altamonte Springs, FL with my Bro for a few years, then moving back to Rhode Island. I would always take a month of vacation in FL every year after moving back home in New England.
Anyways, I ended up picking up a DUI while down on vacation in FL. Went to court and ended up with a 1 year probation. I never did any probation and fled the state, thinking it was just a DUI.... About a month ago I got pulled over for speeding, they ran my name and a FL warrant popped up. They wanted to extradite me. I got held in jail until I could post bail. My bail was originally $50,000, I had a bail review and it got reduced to 10,000, I posted the bond and got released. I'm now currently dealing with FL and most likely will have to go down there to fight this.
Idk if anyone has been in this position. But if not don't plan on picking up a charge in another state and then run from it. It bit me in the ass and I'm now paying for it.
If mods want to delete this then go for it (don't know if it violates the rules) trying to help ppl out.

Damn.
Yeah probation usually requires you doing some kind of regular check in. Did you skip the court date? Did they know you were no longer a resident in Florida? I'm trying to better understand why you got a warrant issued.
The plethora of celebrities earning DUI's and then seemingly facing no punishment has ostensibly portrayed them as "just another driving offense". But make no mistake about it... A DUI is serious business (a felony), as you are now finding out.
I can only imagine how rough your situation is. Best of luck to you man.

I told the public defender I lived in Rhode Island and if they could transfer the probation to my state? The judge refused the request. I came back home to RI where I live, hence the warrant. So they considered me a "fugitive from justice". That's why my bail was so high. The DUI charge is actually a misnomer. But yeah thanks for the support.

That's why I don't drink alcohol. Im a professional truck driver and I wouldnt want to jeopardize my license by doing something illegal. I used to work at a truck-stop gas station, Hess Express to be precise. It was right across from the turn-pike on 192 in Kissimmee,FL. I worked 3rd shift so I would empty the trash barrels all around the pumps. The truck station barrels were chuck full of empty cases of beer. I was kinda shocked, hence there job is to drive truck. But I'm sure your familiar with this since you work in the industry.

Drinking and driving is a reprehensible act and there is LITERALLY zero excuse for it. There are over half a dozen ways to get from point A to point B without getting in a car and driving yourself if you've been drinking. You think what you've already faced and what you're going to face is bad, well what would you do if you had killed someone?

Luckily nobody died but he did injure the passangers in the other car. He was gonna get locked up but he went in on his birthday and they gave him a break and gave him a minimum of three years probation. Changed his life. He barely was able to get his licence back this year and I'm pretty sure he's sober now. A lot grumpier but sober.

I just know I value my license and I dont much like alcohol beverages so I dont consume them.

Ok first off i dont drink and drive and i rarely drink at all. But why are some of yall coming down so hard on the dude. All he did was come here to express his situtation and whats going on and to see anyone knows what legal action will be taken etc.
He's not here for sympathy or defending the matter at hand. Some people are ready to jump down others throats as soon as they make a mistske.

Probably should have the mindset of "just a DUI." That's pretty serious. You got arrested because you could have hurt or killed someone. Pretty obvious that you would have to deal with that. It's not just a fine you pay to make it go away.

They should be able to transfer your probation to your current state since you don't live there.

Some people are ready to jump down others throats as soon as they make a mistske. And therein lies the problem. Drinking and driving is seen as a "mistake". It's not a mistake. Spelling a word incorrectly or dialing the wrong phone number is a mistake. Drinking and driving is a horribly selfish act that can destroy lives in the blink of an eye. When you get tanked, bombed, blitzed, snockered, buzzed, or just "comfortably numb" and then decide to get behind the wheel of a potential murder weapon you haven't made a mistake, you've made a choice. The right to swing your fist ends at the other guys face.
