I'm sorry, but Rhodes couldn't draw a stick figure with an artists guided hand. Stardust was about as interesting his characters have ever been. It was so Batman 1966 and different. But were his figures flying off shelves? No. Was he drawing sell out crowds? Nope... People here get "HE's A money press" mixed up with " He's a damn good talent". John Cena is a gold mine. Stone Cold is a gold mine. Cody Rhodes is a solid mid-carder and a main event enhancement talent. Kinda hard to sell figures when all there's mostly Cena's and Orton's clogging the shelves, also was he ever given a shot to main event live events or anything? If not how are we to know if people would pay to see him? Nowadays people see "WWE Live" and off they go. Even after the brand split ended I could see Grotesque Cody as a heel people would go to boo and Cody after he turned face as the guy they would want to cheer. He always got the desired reaction for his character. Cody was in WWE for what feels like a decade. He was given plenty of pushes. He was a successful Tag Team champion and IC champion. He was pusbed as Cody Rhodes, Dashing Cody Rhodes, Grotesque Cody Rhodes, and Stardust. He even had a program with Steven Amell. Thats a solid run. Not every star makes it as a main event player. Even fewer make it as champion. The argument about figures is mute when comparing a Rhodes/Stardust figure to Cena or Orton. Both are current roster legends. Would a feud between himself and Goldust have put him on a higher bracket? Not when you have other high profile matches and feuds going on. Honestly, Sandow is the real loss this year. He has more charisma in his beard than Cody had his whole career. Cody had the look and ability. But we all know thats not the full list of ingredients to make it to a larger platform in the WWE.

He was champion material. A few years ago, I would have put money on him being a future champion. And I bet it was the Stardust angle that killed it for him. Yeah, it was fun for awhile, but weird gimmicks never really go anywhere anymore in the WWE. Plus others have mentioned how crowded the current wwe field and roster is. He just got lost in the mix. Hopefully he shows up at Lucha Underground. That seems like the best place for him at the moment.

I am so ing sad about this. I do hope he can go to NJPW and or ROH and reinvigorate his career. Maybe in a year or two he could come back and WWE would finally realize what they lost.. Idk if he would be WWE Champion anytime soon with them only having one title but he should have always been a legit contender for the IC/US Titles and or Tag Team if they paired him with someone.

I always really liked Cody Rhodes. I am not one of these people who think he would have been a future WWE Champion. But not everyone has to be. He was a damn solid mid carder and he did his job very well. Not only that while he was not what I would class as a main event talent he was the kind of wrestler you could throw in there with a main eventer every now and again on RAW like Cena, Seamus, Orton or some other main eventer and have it be believable. I thought Stardust was a fun, creepy and different gimmick than anything else on the roster and he did it very well.

If they kept two titles around, Cody definitely could've been one of the guys to give it a boost. He should've been involved in a main event World Title program after losing the Intercontinental Title instead of Rhodes Scholars which didn't really do until the end. Just to see. He could make a great adversary for anyone. He will be a loss for the company.

2009-2013 is the new lost generation. So many missed opportunities.

Sandow, Harper.. do we even watch the same program??
Rhodes is way above over half of the roster.

Sadly another extremely promising talent that the WWE wasted.

He should have gotten a longer run and bigger push as Grotesque Cody rhodes, and should have kept the mustache when he turned face vs Sandow

Shame, I always liked him. I definitely could've seen him a WHC if they kept the brand split & two separate titles. Really liked Stardust too, one of my favourite things in the company today.

Dashing Cody Rhodes was so awesome. Loved the gimmick. The Dashing tips were a high point on SmackDown too! lol

There is a report saying he and Goldust both walked out prior to the tapings of Smackdown this week.

I really enjoyed Cody in everything that he did, especially the work with Sandow and Goldust into 2013. The real sad part of the story is looking at his face and seeing a talent and great guy, and then looking at that smug, arrogant Reigns mug and knowing that we'll be seeing Reigns for the next ten years instead of Cody. Shame.

The thing that hurts the most is the fact that they never even tried to give him a chance to shine in the main event. Swagger, Miz, Ziggler, Del Rio, Barrett and R-Truth all got chances to wrestle in a main event position. Cody didn't even get an opportunity to prove himself.
