Kane spoke with the local NBC affiliate in Knoxville, Tennessee and said he’s seriously considering a run as a Republican for the Knox County mayoral seat in 2018. Kane says he will make his decision later this year after the presidential election. He commented:
“Yes, I’ve talked about it with some folks but there’s nothing too solid yet. Mayor Burchett’s term is coming up and I think he’s been really good for Knox County. I think the most important thing is I care very deeply about this community, like a lot of people do. And that’s the only reason I would consider getting into any sort of government because I do care very deeply. And I think it’s incumbent upon people who care about the communities to try to make a difference.”
Kane is apparently running on keeping county taxes low. He said:
“What I’ve seen in Knox County the past several years is that taxes have remained low because it’s a great place to live. People move here and that helps expands the tax base. My political philosophy is the ‘smaller the better. Government should stay out of the way and let free enterprise do what it does best.”
It would be an interesting career change for Kane as the county mayor earns around $170,000 annually and oversees almost 1,000 employees with a more than $750 million budget.

So is he done with WWE now?

He should retire next year when it's his 20th anniversary. He seems like a very hard working intelligent guy so I hope all works out for him.

He needs to do one more memorable thing. Maybe he could have a nice IC or US title reign to end off his career.

He's been with WWE for longer then 20 years already , he stared in 1995 as Doctor Issic Yankem, then fake Diesel in 1996 then Kane in 1997, so he has been in wwe for 22 years already.

Yeah but the Kane character will be 20 next year and that's what made him.

He and Big Show are on my "Please retire" list, so this news pleases me. Nothing against Kane cause he's entertained me more times than not, but he's not needed IMO. I'm glad he's got a plan outside WWE

After the whole corporate Kane stuff, I'm quite glad. If he did return, he'd never be 'the monster' again and if they tried it, would it really work?
He's slowed down and with the talent that's on TV lately, I think his time is done and rightfully so.

Have him give Baron a rub and retire.

I don't see where it says he's done, just that he's considering and planning.

I love Kane, but it's time. He's a very smart man and I'm sure he'll be successful in life after WWE.

As a resident of Knoxville I am more than hopeful that he does run for Mayor.

Kane, Big Show, Mark Henry, I'd be OK if all 3 have one more very short run and then that's the end.

Cody Rhodes leaving was sad for me, I have been supporting him since his debut and will continue to do so but Kane retiring would be even sadder, the guy was always there for me even when my favorites like The Rock and Edge left but Kane was always there for me to enjoy his work, despite the odd storylines he was often put in, Kane never bored me and his figures in both Jakks and Mattel forms are my all time favorite of my collection. It will truly be an end of an era for me as a fan, if Kane retires then all of my favorite wrestlers from my childhood will be gone.

I can see him walking around East Knoxville with his mask on next time there's a gang related shooting telling everyone the devils favorite demon is coming to clean house.

I respect him, he's had a great career, but he really only needs one night. He needs a final respectful sendoff . One last BoD match followed by everyone in the ring paying respect. No more runs, no IC or US reign. He's done everything already. He's done too much. I love Kane, but he's a perfect example of sticking around too long and tarnishing a legacy. Taker's sporadic appearances kept him special, and Kane really could've done the same. At the same rate, I know he doesn't care, he loves what he does, and stayed far healthier than Taker. It's why he's so well respected. The only trade-off, like I said, he's done too much. He's been the legit monster, he's been the main event champion, he's been the Great hope, but he's also been a mid carder, he's been made to look silly, and most recently he's been the lower card elder statesman doing a job far beneath him at the expense of his legacy. He's done too much. Thus he won't get the Undertaker sendoff, nor should he. That's not disrespect towards Kane, I respect him more than almost anyone, it's just the way it is. He's literally done all there is to do.
