Whoa!
Today in the papers, they announced that WWE Smackdown will be coming to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.
Here's the quote from the papers.
"WRESTLING FANS, REJICE: WWE Smackdown on its way to city Aug. 15"
For the first time in a decade, the WWE is coming to Peterborough. The Largest Wrestling Company in existence will film its Smackdown television show at the Peterborough Memorial Centre on Monday, August 15th, starting 7pm.
The show will be taped and then rebroadcast later in the week, seen in Canada on the Score.
Gavin White, general manager of the Memorial Centre, says a contract has not yet been signed but he's fairly confident the wrestling organization is coming to town. In fact the WWE is already promoting the event on its website.
This is the first time the WWE has come to Peterborough in 10 years. Mr.White says theorgaization contacted him last fall looking for details, mainly on the specs of the arena.
"They made the initial call," he says.
Since then, talks have progressed to the point where the wrestling organization will be bringing its stable of wrestling stars to Peterborough. But without the contract signed, Mr.White is not prepared to begin selling tickets. However, when tickets to go on sale, there will be 4,500 avaiable. According to the WWE website, tickets will cost $25 & $35 .
What this means for Peterborough, besides fueling the delight of hardcore wrestling fans , is promotion of the city on a worldwide stage.
Smackdown is seen in more than 60 countries every week. Besides the United States and Canada, the program is watched by wrestling fans in many many counties.
The last time the WWE came to Peterborough, it went under its former name, the WWF."
This is great..
I meant, I was there at the last WWF event that was held in Peterborough... I remember seeing Diesel, Undertaker, Bret Hart, Owen Hart, Yokozuna, Smoking Gunns...
Plus it was my first live WWF show...
I might actually go, and get front rows seats.. :-D
I hope.
:-D! Maybe three tickets, four tickets.. one for myself, bring Maladroit aka Pat, my cousins.. OooO
It could be...
