My solution.... Just buy 2-3 of everything you want and you won't have to have that debate

My biggest issue is space so I open everything. I do have just enough room to save the more desirable boxes though.

As a MOC collector I've never understood the idea of opening them. If I was a loose collector I would feel like keeping MOC is pointless. It's all about personal preference and WHY you are collecting to begin with? I have well over 100 MOC figures and for me they display nicely, and part of the art for me is the packaging. I don't play with the figures or display them in poses so for me I prefer them neatly in the package. I feel if I did open them, they'd end up in a bin and be useless to me.
So do whatever you want man, there is no light or dark side. Just your side.

I was all MOC until about 6 months ago. It was super exciting to start ripping them out, putting their accessories on, posing for a new clean display. It kinda hurt my stomach to get rid of all the boxes. But in the long run in much more condensed, clean, and leaves room for new things.

Two reasons to keep them MOC 1. Sell later. 2. Get autographed. In my opinion it's pointless to display non autographed MOC figures. Even if you say they look great, they look 100 X better with a signature.

The only reason to keep them MOC is to get them autographed. Outside of that, I would open them. Keeping them MOC without a signature has never made any sense to me, personally.

Me personally, I'm a loose collector all the way. Buying TOYS just to watch them collect dust in a stinky box as opposed to buying them opening them, physically touching them, posing them and being able to take them down whenever you want, is the only way to do it. Its a good feeling BUT that is only MY opinion. Someone else may see it completely differently and they're not wrong at all. Here is what you do, if you want to try it out then open a couple up and see how you like it. If its not for you big deal, you only opened a couple. If you enjoy that more though then open all them bad boys up and get hands on!

Thanks for the thoughts all. Thinking I like the idea of keeping personal favorites MOC and opening others.

I used to be in your shoes then said it. They look better loose, at least for my setup. One shelf, all loose is better than some loose, more MOC split out on multiple shelves, display areas. Click on link in my signature to see the transformation.

I never saw the point in collecting only moc. If you're doing that you might as well just print off pics of them in the boxes and hang them on your wall. If you say you're going to sell them someday then why buy them in the first place. The hassle to make a few bucks isn't worth it unless you're a kid who doesn't know any better. Sure there are some figs you wouldn't open, but all of them? Pointless.

I know a lot of people like hanging their MOC pickups in their rooms or wherever they store their collections...nothing wrong with that.

Even if you say they look great, they look 100 X better with a signature. So its money driven or the aesthetic value for you. Which is cool. Please dont view this as an ahole comment. But do you ever worry that without a COA your signed figs wont be worth much?

It takes minimal effort to make minimal proffit. But if you sell enough, it can be a nice side money gig

I'm an MOC collector but decided to loose them. My main reason is the hustle selecting figures with good quality and good box. If you're buying online that would be pain in thr a$$. Second would be space. I have other lines too so I need more space. Lastly, the packaging quality lately is awful. Design is good but the quality is not. It was good to seem them in uniformity displayed in loose condition.

I collect simply as a hobby. Never for profit. Figures look great moc especially when displayed. But my collection has surpassed 1000 figures so space has become an issue for me over the last few years. I now keep one figure moc of each wrestler especially since I love getting figs signed. If it's a figure I really like i will buy 2. I've been displaying my loose figs with ikea detolf shelves and tiered spice racks and they look sweet.
