In quality yes. Mattel is far better than jakks however mattel has a long list of legends to catch up to jakks.

I hate Jakks figs. They are embarrassing. I only own three, out of pure necessity.
So glad Mattel took over. Such a win for us figure-lovers.

Jakks kicked open the door to do legends though. I just wish it would have continued via BCA. Would love for instance an EarthQuake BCA etc.

as a legend collector, I like both
I like the bigger cartoonish bodies on Jakks and like the detail of mattel.

In terms of the overall look and quality of the figures, Mattel wins hands-down. The ONLY advantage Jakks has is the amount of different legends they made - but then, there are quite a few of those figures (that haven't been made by Mattel yet) that a lot of people wouldn't be interested in anyway. And I've said it before - I'd much rather have the likes of Macho Man, Steamboat, Sting etc in my Legends line-up, over 20-30 jobbers/mid-card guys from Jakks CS... Cue that one guy that comes into all these threads and posts pictures and causes a lovely scene.... ...which always just prove how much better the Mattel figures actually look, lol.

THE only thing that I know for a fact that I can give the absolute seal of approval over Mattel on, is that the Classics Superstar Series kept THE SAME PACKAGING throughout the entire run.
That, is awesome.

Mattel wins hands down. The only advantage I think Jakks has over Mattel would be in playability/figure fedding as I don't think any of the Elites I have would hold up to the VERY LIGHT style of play I used to use. Of course I haven't actively played with figs or fedded in about a decade so it's not a personal concern of mine.

I prefer mattel, I was skeptical when I first read Mattel was going to take over, I was thinking WWE Barbie but I believe Mattel knocked it out the park I will say Jakks really got into the legends, they made Ron Bass, Magnum TA, Billy Graham, etc jakks never made magnum t.a. - neither have mattel

I'm with Classic Collector. Mattel has done a better job.. but it's not some huge landslide.
Jakks often has superior head sculpts, more often than not really.
Jakks did indeed kick open the door to do Legends figures, the benefits to which we still get today.
Jakks made it a point to dig deep, giving us people like Lilian Garcia, Joey Styles, Tank Abbott, and Mark Jindrak. Mattel has been getting better at this, but the corporate structure there hinders them from giving us certain characters.
Jakks pursued people who were NOT under a WWE Legends contract, and didn't stay satisfied with the small subset of Legends they had access to. I personally helped arrange the Jakks/Ivan Koloff deal, which I believe has been Ivan's only WWE related deal... but it was done directly through Jakks. I know Bruno's was the same way.
Yes, the scaling was off, the arms were balloons, and they had a tendency to reuse entirely too many body parts.. but the sheer depth of the RA/CS line will be hard for any other wrestling company to match, and saying "LOLJAKKSSUX" is doing a huge disservice to just how much passion, time, energy, and progress was shown in that line.
Mattel is better.. but it's really not as close as some would have you believe.

Mattel by miles. Every one of my Jakks figures gets loose arms easily. The quality was pretty bad.

Jakks hit a home run with the classic line. I loved that line. Especially with the huge amount of legends they produced. But in terms of overall quality Mattel > Jakks.

Yes. Jakks was cool because they tried new things, but sorta half assed it. Mattel brought higher quality, playability, and availability.
Availability is a big thing to me particularly, because if I can't find a series of something I collect(Neca Aliens) in stores or miss out on a really cool figure(CS Black Cat Piper) because they only made 100 for a convention, that's enough to make me quit, that's why I have less than half of the Classic Superstars I wanted from back in the day.

After all these years, I actually think JAKKS is still better than Mattel at face scans and texture. Mattel is #1 though, their figures does put jakks to shame but I still love both. THE only thing that I know for a fact that I can give the absolute seal of approval over Mattel on, is that the Classics Superstar Series kept THE SAME PACKAGING throughout the entire run. That, is awesome. Hell yeah OSC! Imo The elite series look tacky MOC with all the different packaging. I wish they at least kept the HOF packaging the same.

The only thing jakks has to fall back on now is their roster size and the gap for that is steadily closing. For me, Randy Savage will always be the trump card, because I don't really care about Abe Knuckleball Schwartz and and all of those super obscure guys that jakks made.
Mattel has set a very high standard for themselves in terms of quality, but I do feel like some bad habits are creeping into the line.

Jakks didn't have the technology Mattel has either. But yes, they have put out better quality figures than Jakks ever did.. Now if Jakks had put more effort into their R3 line.. This would be a different discussion. RA were some of the worst actions figures I ever saw.. I immediately quit collecting when they pumped those out. RA is why I didn't buy many wrestling figures as a kid. I hated them. They were way to muscular and they were all the same height.

Mattel wins with face scans 80-85% of the time. Mattel wins with their scaling and closer to proportion body types. Mattel wins with accurate detailing. Mattel is better with the limited figures in terms of quantity and availability. Having a figure be limited to 100 or less, and not be apart of some silly deal like Warrior has, is asinine.
Jakks wins with their list of Legends and figures they were able to release. However, if they were starting in 2016 would it be the same as it was 10 years ago for them? Jakks wins with their consistent/similar packaging.

I own Jakks Giant Gonzalez, which I absolutely love having in my 99.9% Mattel collection. It literally stands out, in an appropriate way.
But that's narrowed down from about 20 that I bought to fill the voids early on in Mattel's run. To me, once I held a Mattel version in my right hand and a Jakks in my left, I couldn't believe the difference in quality. Now I can't stomach having anymore Jakks (except Gonzalez) in my collection, even Goldberg which I sold at a flea market for 15 dollars.
To me, Jakks looks like a fun kid's toy; Mattel looks like something an adult collector would want. I'm the latter.
