Give me LeBron over Bird 12 months of the year. Except maybe in June? Bird 5 finals 3 rings Lebron 7 finals 3 rings Wait... So LeBron is punished in your eyes for making the Finals two times more than Bird? That's ridiculous.

Lol, no Lebron is punshied in my eyes because he loses more times then he wins in finals. Finals are on (usually) in June, therefore I agree with the statement that I would take Lebron over Bird, but if I was going into a finals series (in June) I would take Bird, because winning 3 finals in 5, is better then winning 3 finals in 7.

Another things with the Bird v Lebron debate is who their teams Beat on the way to the finals. The East has been, over the past 15 years, the path of least resistance. Whereas during Birds tenure in the league, he was facing teams like the 76ers and the bad boy Pistons on their way to playing the showtime Lakers. That's a pretty rough road to trek.

I love Larry Bird. And honestly building a team I would probably use Larry in his prime over Lebron in his prime for a number of reasons. However, when it comes to legacy, Lebron is arguably already equal to or past Larry Bird, and definitely will be by the time he retires. A lot of that has to due with Larry's injury and longevity issues, and that Larry played several years in college instead of jumping to the NBA at 18. That's me looking at it objectively even though I have never been a Lebron fan.
There have been so many great NBA players in history, it is impossible to really have a definitive best starting 5. It really just comes down to personal preference.

Bird (nor Jordan) never beat a team as good as the 15-16 Warriors. And as vaunted as the Bad Boys Pistons are, this season they'd rank 22nd in defensive efficiency.

You cannot possibly deny the Easts vulnerablility over the past 2 decades, with the lone exception of maybe the yoked up Celtics from 07 to 10.

EDIT: Its hard to do direct comparisons of players from a different era because there's so many things that evolve over time, ie new rules, etc.

It's been a 3-team conference at best since 2000, in terms of how many teams can realistically contend. That doesn't diminish LeBron's accomplishments.

PG - LeBron James (why not?) SG - Kobe Bryant SF - Michael Jordan (why not?) PF - Dirk Nowitzki (I want someone that can score and spread the floor with this team) C - Shaquille O'Neal (this was a hard one as I like Hakeem's defense over Shaq but after a lot of contemplating, I would rather have prime Shaq's quickness and athleticism to run pick and rolls and have his dominance in deep position posts. Not to mention that Shaq's defense wasn't bad and his passing was tremendous for a guy his size)
A lot of ego in this team, but I would put this team over any other team any day.

Pg Curry Sg Jordan Sf Durant Pf Lebron C Shaq
We will outshoot and outscore. Defense will hold up. Ball handling solid all around.
Steph is dropping 18-20 a game on WIDE OPEN LOOKS
Mj 25-30 a game and locking down the opponent
KD and Lebron Interchangeable and both are passive so as not to derail MJ
Shaq playing lob city and catching bodies in the paint all day.

I believe they can with the right culture. Kobe looked up to Mike so there's that. Although Kobe takes a lot of bad shots, in this team, he will average 50%+ FG (just look at the Redeem Team). Mike and Kobe's trash talking will get out of hand sometimes but both are amazing players so they will respect each other and each other's talent at the end of the day. Jordan will put down his ego if the other person is a great ball player and deserving (although he would still trash talk him and show him up but it still worked for the Dream Team).

Bill Russell Sam Jones K.C. Jones John Havlicek Robert Horry
All with more rings than Michael. There’s more guys I could name. No one calls them the greatest, either. Just some food for thought for all you “it’s all about the rings” arguers
It’s about rings. Until it’s about other stats. Then when other stats are comparable or whatever. Then it’s back to rings.
All in an effort to hate on one of the greatest basketball players anyone will ever see.

I agree that the rings argument is stupid, but MJ dominated in every facet of the game.

Not enough respect being shown to Stockton and Duncan.
