I started to do something last night while watching Raw that I think might help me better enjoy the main roster shows, and that is, to mute my TV whenever there is not a match, promo, or interview taking place. In other words, when the show is given to the commentators, I mute it now because all they are doing, and have been doing for many years now, is just catching up people who are tuning in for the first time ever and/or for the first time that night. It's seriously constant reminders about every single little things. Remember when Bray Wyatt would come out and the commentators didn't say a word and we could actually enjoy his entrance? Now we have to keep being reminded of what he and his family have done, or hear a bunch of adjectives about them. On one hand, I get it, you want to keep new fans up to date, but I feel like there's a time and a place for that. With UFC commentators, they use that time by creating programming specifically for that, or they use the lengthy time between fights to do so. But during a fight, it is all about the fight. If WWE wants to continue doing this, why can't they at least keep it between matches and respect the match going on a little more? To me it is as if only the main event matters because that's usually the match they talk a bit more about what's going on, and it shouldn't be that way. To me, it's not giving the fans that actually keep up with the product enough credit, and makes for a very info heavy show, and not enough about the action. I'd almost like to see a show be just about the in-ring action, and a separate show to catch up everyone who doesn't watch regularly. Fortunately for NXT, it's not anywhere near to this level.

Todays commentary is so bad that you want to mute the shows. However none of it is their fault. Vince is constantly in their ear telling them what to say so it would be pretty hard to focus on a match and listen to his orders at the same time.

That new smackdown guy Mauro? I like him he calls the moves it's pretty weird to hear and I actually mark out a little now to hear a move that isn't a a punch / kick or finishing move being done.

I know what your saying. I would love to know how much of the 5 hours of RAW and Smackdown each week is showing you what happened previously. The worst is when you watch a segment, there is a ad break and then they tell you just what happened not even three minutes ago!

in the 90s i used to feel like this was one of wcw's worst features. the midcard matches were often not properly commentated over making sure to let everyone know where goldberg was in the building or whatever the angle was that night. the wwe started it in the early 2000s and it hasn't left since. why should we be paying utmost attention to the in ring action if they're treating it like a piss break?

Not a fan of the commentary on either raw or smack down. You shouldn't find yourself focusing on the commentary in the middle of a huge spot, it should add to it not take your focus away from the action. Cole and JBL are horrendous for ruining huge moments

That and JBL plays the heel commentator for everyone and everything EXCEPT Cena. When Cena comes out....he kisses Cena's ass and talks about how tough he is and goes crazy when he gets screwed.

His commentary when ambrose won the title on Sunday night was embarrassing. Man I know you're meant to be the heel commentator but please just shut up and let us focus on ambrose

It's starting to really annoy me now. It's just so bad now. Although I don't mind JBL, Cole and Saxton are shocking to me.
Mauro and NXT guys I enjoy but honestly I wish there was an option of no commentary. I don't want to mute the damn thing though as I like crowd noise and hearing the bumps.

Old Smackdown days proves that.

Old Smackdown days proves that. It's just annoying how bad the commentary team is. Cole shouting "you gotta be kidding me" at everything is just old. It's been said loads of times but they literally pretend that things haven't been done before just to try to increase the moments awesomeness but it doesn't work. Remember that huge ladder big show would pull out. We seen that so many times and every time they act like it's the first time lol

I feel like Cole and JBL actually have the ability to be good....but are being forced to call matches like Vince used to.

He went from the best play by play man to a goofy hillbilly character who couldnt remember what was going on or who was in the ring.,

I came in about 97 and I gotta say the commentary from Jr up till I had my break from watching around 2004 was one of my favourite parts. Each to their own though mate,it's interesting to hear someone else's take on it

JBL screams into the headset to get his point across. Michael Cole repeats things in a shouting manner to get his point, which is SO ing bad. And Saxton just makes comments that makes him seem inferior to JBL/Cole. They all suck.
