It's a shame this figure never got an official release, I thought this was an awesome Greg Valentine figure, much better than the common 'yellow hair' release. I'm sure this figure would have been just as common as the Yellow hair one. Probably, even Honky Tonk Man is pretty common...

Yeah, the team pack probably would've been the shelf warmers along with Rockers and Bushwhackers. Probably wouldn't be on shelves as long (I think up to 1995) but probably into mid 1992. Kids probably didn't care for HTM and Hammer in the first place and by time the toys came out, they weren't a team. I'm guessing non releasing Greg was just cost cutting for a non-important figure. I doubt it had anything to do with "plans" for Greg's face turn and change back to blonde. They still released Honkytonk and he would be gone by that point. I think the outfit has a lot to do with how popular the prototype is. If it had been black hair and no honkytonk jacket, it would be just "blah." Very few people seem to go after the 1994 Beefcake repaint prototype. Or it could have to do with the "original" search. In the 1994 WWF magazines we always just saw Tatanka, never Beefcake so it wasn't like we were looking for a Mega Maniacs Beefcake in stores. We were, of course, looking for the Rhythm and Blues tag team never relining it was just a prototype.
