I hear this a lot from 20 and 30 somethings who grew up in the 80's and 90's and even early 2000's.
Just like back then, there's a handful of great shows, surrounded by largely forgettable ones.
I can think back and remember some of the random crap I watched as a kid that never gets brought up on these lists. Time will tell what lasts and what doesn't.
Regular Show is ace. Gravity Falls was amazing. Teen Titans Go is much better than everyone gives it credit for. I actually prefer it to the original TT. It's a new outlook on the comic hero genre. Not everything needs to be doom and dark.
And I'll say it, the new TMNT is better than the original. Go back and watch them, the first 2 or 3 seasons are great, then there's a STEEP downhill slide.
Of course, the 2003 series is still the best.

Animation is a big issue with me when it comes to cartoons nowadays.. For example, The Clone Wars.. I'm a huge fan of Star Wars and from everything I've heard the show is top notch with story.. But I can't get past the animation. Same with the new TMNT. I hear it's incredible.. But I do not like the animation one bit.
It seems cheap, and lazy.

Gravity Falls, Rick and Morty, Archer, Adventure Time, Steven Universe (not the biggest fan but it has its moments), We Bare Bears are all good quality, Squidbillies, Brad Neely's Adult Swim works, Venture Bros, etc.
Disney XD has some new ones coming that look great. There's 80 worldwide new cartoon series being pitched at Cartoon Forum this year, 10% of which are aimed at young adults/adults.
Just because you grew up or whatever doesn't mean it got worse. Maybe it just means you lack relevancy.

Well, this is all subjective to say that cartoons aren't good anymore. I grew up in the 80s and 90s and cartoons had different elements within their story lines, like satire, black comedy, adult themes, political issues, and a mirth of others, so i can understand why someone would say that cartoons aren't good anymore, but again, it is subjective. Maybe we are just viewing it from a different perspective and cartoons these days are too politically correct and are not aimed at our demographic. Who knows? I'm just speculating. Good thread, though, gives way to discussion.

I remember when Saturday mornings were all I cared about. Scooby Doo, The Superfriends, Bugs Bunny, Thundarr the Barbarian, Wacky Racers, etc. But you knew it was over at noon, because that's when Soul Train would come on. All of those shows are before my time, but I remember watching reruns of the original Scooby Doo show and Looney Toons as a young boy in the early-mid 2000s. I don't remember when, but about 5 years ago an old episode of Soul Train, which I have never seen or heard of until then was on TV and I was wtf is this. I immediately changed the TV channel. Also, if you think that was bad, I guess you've never heard of Choo Choo Soul.

I haven't watched any in years but I made a similar thread around the time I joined WF. There are some that I personally don't like but are huge like Regular Show and Adventure Time that at least have promise. Then there's stuff like Uncle Grandpa that makes me want to rip my eyes out. I won't let my children watch Uncle Grandpa or much TV at all. Just in case there are other parents reading this; Children that are exposed to teenage movies that include under aged drug and alcohol use are 30% more likely to view under aged drug and alcohol use as acceptable teenage behaviors. pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/126/4/791Similar logic applies. Watching television shows that deem rude behavior as acceptable social behavior will ruin a child. In psychology, adolescents can reach to the age of 25 years old. By this point in time, most people settle into who they have become... Point is, don't support Uncle Grandpa. I'll get off my soapbox.

For me personally, I'm never going to sit there and watch any of the shows that are on anymore purely because they're targeted at really young ages (more so than before) and I know I won't be able to get into it. It's really subjective as well too with the whole my era was better than yours kinda thing, but I definitely agree cartoons and TV shows have fallen dramatically or just changed in their approach too much that for someone who grew up in the late nineties and 2000's it's always going to be hard to adapt, especially as we're adults or adolescents now.
Also, with the Internet and all the different forms of entertainment kids now have, TV isnt as much of a priority in this day and age so the companies don't have to try as hard because they know a large percentage of people will watch other stuff whether it's on the Internet or playing games or whatever.

I think the last cartoon I really watched was the reboot Ninja Turtles series in 2003/2004. Obviously the show was no where near the quality of the original 80s Ninja Turtles series. But I've seen a couple episodes of the 2010-ish Batman series (Called like Beware The Batman or something IIRC) and it's definitely changed a ton from the 90s Batman: The Animated Series. Most of it seems to do with the rise of political correctness in Western Cultures (I could say more about PC culture in particular but this is neither the time or place for that.)
What I'm getting at here is that most of the new cartoons in the 21st century seem to be more light hearted. BTAS has a really dark, gritty atmosphere and story line to it while the newer series seemed to be more cliched with Batman being the all time good guy and protector of Gotham, in the original series most of the police force seemed kind of skeptical of him and not very friendly towards him, this doesn't make an appearance in the new series. In Ninja Turtles there always was a similar feeling from civilians in New York City seeing the turtles as freaks of nature, this was also absent in the newer series. Additionally they all seem "mass marketed" as weird as that may sound. BTAS has episodes with very good story lines, but the new Batman cartoon, in at least the episodes I saw, only had some very basic story lines that didn't really cover much and left out a lot of detail. Almost as if they were written in a day and then produced a day later.

Cartoons suck now. The last show to come out on Cartoon Network that I liked was the looney tunes show, adventure time was the start of it, that show and everything after it sucked. I really wanted to like teen titans go because I loved the old one but no, it's terrible. ing give me back billy and Mandy, justice League, chowder, Johnny test, my gym partners a monkey, kids next door, swat cats, fosters home for imaginary friends, Ed Edd n eddy, flapjack all that good older sh*t that I used to watch. I miss the days when I could turn on Cartoon Network and there would be a show I liked on, since 2013 (when the ended the looney tunes show) I've only watched Cartoon Network for the new episodes of total drama. I never watch Cartoon Network any more because the shows just aren't watchable! And every other cartoon channel is getting just as bad, the only channel I can turn to is boomerang because they show the old Cartoon Network shows, and they don't even show some of those on there any more! They don't play flap jack, justice league, my gym partners a monkey, teen titans. I want my cartoons back damnit! I hate the crap they've got on now. Give me any one of the shows I just named over all the crap that's on now. Please!
