I will never understand this places obsession with this guy. He's a great athlete, but that's it. He's the high spot guy. And not in a Kofi Kingston kind of way where he was ever being held back by it. I disagree completely. Shelton was far from a high spot guy and even less so after his run in Japan. I could think of plenty of guys on the roster, and rosters of other companies, right now that I prefer him over. I don't care about his work rate. I don't think that's important in WWE the way it is in a place like NJPW. He's got very little to contribute to WWE at this point besides quality filler matches that none of us will remember 2 years from now. I think he's a far better fit in ROH, LU or NJPW where he doesn't have to do anything but wrestle in order to matter. I'd rather see gimmick veterans return. Guys like TBK, Carlito or MVP. Guys who you can build feuds around with the microphone and make people actually want to see them win or lose. I've seen enough good but largely meaningless filler matches to last a lifetime, especially lately.

I'm a big fan of Sheltom. I wanna see him in as an upper mid carder and I hope he gets a few decent IC title reigns. I hope he wins the World title but I doubt it he will. Maybe Shelton will be the one who takes the belt off the Miz.

Shelton, imo, doesn't really add much outside of being a warm body in the midcard who can put over others. Shelton's a hell of an athlete, and maybe that meant something in late-2000s WWE where WWE trained everyone shoddily and then threw them to the wolves to suck and then die in a fire, but he doesn't really add much on a roster where everyone can flat out go.
Plus the guy got plenty of chances and pushes (dude was the default midcard champion before Kofi Kingston and Wade Barrett ever made that a "thing") and was never really all that over outside of the match with Michaels and his annual MiTB ladder spot.

One of my absolute favorites.
To the guy saying he can't get over to save his life, go watch has (practically rookie) matches against Triple H, and then throw on any of his ladder matches.

I hope Shelton isn't the only one returning.... For Shelton's fat mama better be managing him once he returns to Smackdown Live!

I would put him in a Kurt Angel (team Angel,WGTT) role for America Alpha. That way it puts all 3 over.

Shelton is only 41 and so should still be able to go. People might complain about Smackdown getting guys from the past back, but Shelton fits on Smackdown. He'll be a great addition to the mid card and IC title picture.

I have no idea if Shelton Benjamin can still go or what sort of shape he's in, but the guy was one of the best all-around athletes when he was in the WWE. Shelton reminded me a lot of Cesaro, minus the ridiculous superhuman strength, with the stuff he could do in the ring. I always really liked Shelton and thought he could've been bigger than he was. I'm assuming his role is going to be different this time around and he'll mainly be used to put over younger guys the way the Dudley Boyz have since they returned, and the way I expect Rhyno to be used, too.

Good for Shelton on getting paid and good for the fans who get to see one of the best on tv every week again.
Won't get my hopes up for being a world title contender but this is good.

I don't know if I want him to be putting over Crews, Styles, etc. or if I want him to have that title run.

Of all of the rumored signings and possible guys being brought back the only name I was more interested in bring back then Benjamin was Angle. If Shelton can go at the same level or close to the level he did before he left in 2010 I would push him into the main event scene on Smackdown. He's really that good in the ring and only lacks mic skills which could be solved by having a manger like a returning Kurt Angle,MVP or even Paul Heyman. He's the only one in the OVW 5 not to reach the main event level or to get a world title reign. You could bring him back as a babyface and team him up with Apollo Crews to former a pretty awesome tag team on paper or again as I would do team him up with someone to do the mic work and push him as a heel in the main event scene.
If you look at the blue brand side of things all you have is Cena,Orton,Styles,Ambrose,Wyatt and Ziggler really and Benjamin should be easily in the mix.Theirs ready made feuds with Orton and Cena again if you bring up their OVW past and you could rebuild Benjamin as a badass by bring up his past with those men and the fact that he help create the beast himself Brock Lesnar.

He's one of those guy who I do enjoy watching but just cant get behind, I know the match is going to be good but I'm pulling for his opponent more. Maybe this run in WWE will give me a new view on him, its been a good while since he was here last so maybe he's mixed it up a bit.

I just put the Shelton figure on my shelf for the first time in many years. Now it's real.
