Lex Luger Shoot Interview in 2012:Interviewer: Okay we're at Wrestlemania X, you defend your title in what is perhaps your greatest match and in a few weeks you lose the Championship all of a sudden. Lex: Ya...well where do I begin I mean there were a lot of things going on in the back. Ever since SummerSlam (1993) there were a lot of guys in the back that weren't happy with my push. Bret wasn't happy because he wasn't champion though his feud with Owen was great. Randy wasn't happy with commentary. I don't think he was all that thrilled with the whole "Old School Posse", while others loved it. Randy was sensitive to his age, he was already in his forties, and didn't want to be seen as "Old", which is why Vince pushed him where needed. Randy thought doing the job to Crush was enough, but Vince saw it differently. As for the Old School Posse it was so over that Vince decided to take advantage of it and into the main event scene. Perfect was signed to come back with the offer of a Championship match and house shows with me till King of the Ring. So he knew he'd be making money. I think the biggest issue Vince had was selling King of the Ring. See the last one (in '93) had the worst PPV buyrate in the WWF since the first Royal Rumble (in '89). Hulk Hogan wasn't even enough to push that rate up, but to be fair it was a new PPV at least that's how I saw it. Interviewer: So it was about the PPV buy. When were you told about your loss? Lex: Well ya...so Vince brought me in a week after Mania, told me that I would have to drop the title to Curt (Mr. Perfect), and Curt didn't even know till the day of...but it was going to be something liken to Wrestlemania IV anyway, because he wanted the King of the Ring tournament to be for the WWF Championship to push the PPV. So it wasn't about ending my reign or that the All-American character wasn't selling or something. Also Vince was taking notice in those days of WCW having eight PPV events in '93 so he wanted more PPVs eventually and King of the Ring '94 was a make or break for him to see if he could do more PPV's and beat WCW out of the PPV business. So I kind of understood why I had to drop the title after Mania which was I must say (Wrestlemania) was a success... Interviewer: How would you evaluate your first run as champion? Lex: It was tough, though most of the guys in the back were finally satisfied with me as champion...took a while (laughs)...it was a good run. Vince initially wanted me to be a long-term champion like Hogan, hold it for at least two years. I think Vince started to panic when he heard rumours that Hogan was heading to WCW. He felt that WCW was going to start buying out more stars. I mean Mean Gene left in '93, Bobby Heenan signed with WCW earlier that year, which Vince was shocked about, then you had wrestlers like the British Bulldog and the Nasty Boys already there, and the Steiner Brothers were already talking to WCW even as they were still under contract...top it all with a possible jail sentence on the way because of the steroid scandal...Vince had to do what he could. Interviewer: Don't you think there would've been a big risk for taking the title off of you so soon? Lex: There was definitely a risk, because by losing the title, what would be left for that all-American character? He's no longer unstoppable because technically no one had pinned me clean in the WWF even when I was a heel. The loss at least was different in a way that worked. At the same time I didn't really want to be seen as a Hogan-clone. Maybe the loss was for the better for me and the fans.

WWF Wrestling Challenge April 10th, 1994 Hosts: Jim Ross and Jerry "the King" Lawler
Notable Matches: Razor Ramon (c) def. Corey Student via pinfall to retain the WWF Intercontinental Championship.
Randy "Macho Man" Savage & Rick Martel def. Tony Devito & Duane Gill via pinfall.Owen Hart def. Tatanka via Countout. Lawler laughs and says that Tatanka continues on a losing streak. King wishes he could get a word with Crush, but says that Crush doesn't want to talk to anyone after taking that beating at Wrestlemania X. Official Announcement from Gorilla Monsoon: "On April 4th, during the main event at Monday Night RAW, the World Wrestling Federation Champion Lex Luger took on Mr. Perfect in what was to be a classic match that fans deserved to see without interruption. However after the horrendous acts by the so-called Old School Posse, Lex Luger lost the match and the referee awarded Mr. Perfect the WWF Championship.
As the WWF board is currently in the process of electing a President for the World Wrestling Federation, as interim President, it is my job to carry on the duties of a President and do what is right for the WWF and the millions of fans watching at home. Since a referee's decision is final, I have decided to allow Mr. Perfect to be recognized in the record books as the World Wrestling Federation Champion. However, after careful consideration, I have decided ineffective immediately to officially strip the WWF Championship from Mr. Perfect.
Since the WWF Championship is now vacant, and with the King of the Ring tournament Qualifying Round soon to begin, I have decided that to settle this once and for all...meaning that the King of the Ring tournament will in fact be...for the WWF Championship and one WWF Superstar will walk out as the Undisputed WWF Heavyweight Champion of the World. Tomorrow night on Monday Night RAW we will be announcing the candidates for the King of the Ring Qualifying Round who will be competing before the King of the Ring, which will be live on PPV on June 19. Thank you."

Gorilla: Mr. Perfect, thank you for coming. The WWF Board has officially... Perfect: No no no...not the WWF board (gets in Gorilla's face)...you...you are requesting me to give up the WWF Championship belt to...you. Gorilla: As you know the WWF Championship is vacant and we had requested you, as per our telephone conversation, to surrender the championship belt here tonight. Perfect: You know I could've just Fedex this belt to you (has it in his hands folded) and sit back at home and watch how you Monsoon, screwed me from the championship. Gorilla: Now you listen here, the way you won the championship was not fair. Perfect: (laughs) You're not even the President yet...I know the right guy, the Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase and honestly I'm going to make sure I get every WWF Superstar and Official in the back, to support Ted Dibiase because he'll take the WWF to better places. Gorilla: I'm not here to discuss politics with you...Mr. Perfect, you must surrender the belt. Perfect: (shakes his head and looks upset) So that's it...give it up...(looks at belt)...give it up (looks at Gorilla, kisses the belt and hands it over)...Tell me Gorilla Monsoon, what's next for me? I deserved that title shot more than anyone else. I was a two-time Intercontinental Champion, and just seconds ago, I was the World Wrestling Federation Champion. Gorilla: In all fairness Mr. Perfect, for the King of the Ring tournament for the WWF Championship, we have decided to award you and Lex Luger a BIE in the Qualifying Round. WWF Monday Night Raw April 18th, 1994 Memorial Auditorium, Utica, New York Commentators: Vince McMahon and Jim Ross.
Lex Luger walks out to the ring (no music) and gets on the mic with Vince McMahon. Vince: It's great to see you again Lex Luger after that vicious attack by the Old School Posse who cost you the WWF Championship. I'm just glad you're alright. Lex: (looks upset and nearly in tears) For the past few weeks, I've been through the worst period in my life...(sighs) the absolute worst. You see, On April 4th, I went in to a match against a man to whom I had a great deal of respect for, but after that match, there is nothing left but disgust for him, but it wasn't just Mr. Perfect and the so-called Old School Posse that got to me...(gets angry) but the so-called Interim President of the World Wrestling Federation, Gorilla Monsoon who sat there and did nothing while it all went down. Vince: I was there I don't think there was much Gorilla could do... Lex: Then why did he take my title away? Why did Gorilla Monsoon take the WWF Championship away from me? Vince: I cannot speak for the interim President, however at the least he is giving you a BIE for the King of the Ring qualifying round... Lex: Is that going to make me happy? Is this just a test from the WWF? Maybe that's what life is a test...I don't know, I don't know much anymore...but I do know this, at the King of the Ring...it doesn't matter who it is that I have to face after I beat that low-life Mr. Perfect. I don't care if it's Bret Hart, Razor Ramon, Randy Savage, Shawn Michaels I don't care because I'll take them all on. I will do whatever it takes to get that title back. I will become King of the Ring and hold the WWF Championship belt again. King of the Ring Qualifying Round Match #3: Razor Ramon (c) def. Diesel (w/Shawn Michaels) via pinfall. Shawn Michaels accidentally super kicks Diesel, Razor Ramon gets a small package on Diesel for the referee to notice and to win the match. _____________________________ KOTR STATUS:

WWF Monday Night Raw May 2nd, 1994 Green Mountain State, Burlington, Vermont Commentators: Vince McMahon and Ted Dibiase.Ted Dibiase mentions that he knows where the Undertaker is and that since he was the one who originally introduced the Undertaker to the WWF, he'll be bringing him back and even join the Old School Posse because everyone has a price for the Million Dollar Man. King of the Ring Qualifying Round Match #5: Randy Savage def. Owen Hart via pinfall (Owen retains the IC title as it was non-title). After the match Randy Savage announces that the Old School Posse has a new member, just as Rowdy Roddy Piper has led the Posse to greater heights and Mr. Perfect was a great addition...he calls the new member out and it's Ravishing Rick Rude. Rick Rude enters the arena to quite a shock and even Dibiase says he knew Rude was an "International Champion for another company", but is shocked to see him here. Rude says he wants to go after Lex Luger. (Note: Rude had legit heat with Ric Flair (who was seen as a booker, though Flair claims he didn't have much control over it) at the time because he wanted Sting's spot in WCW as the top babyface. In this timeline he was so fed up that he left the WCW and called Vince up a few weeks back. This means that the May 4th incident that led to his career-ending injury never happened) King of the Ring Qualifying Round Match #4: Bam Bam Bigelow def. Bret Hart via Countout. Bret lost the match when Jerry Lawler on commentary called him a loser out loud and Bret in anger started to brawl it out with him without realizing he was being counted out. _____________________________ KOTR STATUS: BIE > Lex Luger vs. Mr. Perfect BIE > Razor Ramon vs. Bam Bam Bigelow

Bigelow starts to go after Lex's steel-plated forearm early on in the match. Lex's arm is badly hurt and Rude says this is the best thing one can do against Lex. He holds unto his own forearm in pain. Lex is in the ring as Bigelow slowly makes it in and gets up. Lex hits the ropes for a flying forearm, Bigelow leg sweeps as a counter and Lex lands on his own forearm. Lex shouts as loud as possible and in such extreme pain the referee starts to look at Lex. The ref calls timeout and a "doctor" from the back looks at Lex's arm. On camera the "doctor" says something is wrong with the steel-plate. Lex goes nuts and pushes everyone back as he still wants to fight. Rude says that Lex deserves this. The referee calls for the bell. Winner: Bam Bam Bigelow via Decision for KOTR Finals.

Bigelow manages to hit a Bam Bamsault and signals for the flying headbutt, but misses. Shawn waits for Bigelow to get up and hits the superkick for Bigelow to drop on the outside. Shawn goes to the top and hits a flying crossbody from the top. Shawn gets in the ring and exposes a turnbuckle and takes advantage of Bigelow who enters the ring with a few chops and tries to do a running bulldog, but Bigelow hits a backbreaker. Bigelow scoop slams Shawn and goes to the top ropes. Shawn does a kip-up and superkicks Bigelow as Bigelow was trying to do a double axe handle. Shawn is exhausted and the ten count begins. Both men get up, Bigelow runs towards Shawn, till Shawn leg sweeps Bigelow who hits the exposed turnbuckle. With Bigelow dazed, Shawn hits the third superkick of the night and the pin for the win. Winner: Shawn Michaels via pinfall and New Undisputed WWF World's Heavyweight Champion and King of the Ring '94.
Rick Rude practically jumps from the commentary booth in disbelief. The referee hands the WWF Championship belt to Shawn as Shawn can't even believe it himself and starts to jump around the ring. Diesel runs out to the ring with the IC title and grabs a hold of the King's Crown and places it over HBK's head. Rude: This is "BS"...this is what you call the New Generation Monsoon? You're going down (Rude leaves the booth for the back). Gorilla: We apologize for that...Well history has been made here in the World Wrestling Federation folks, as the Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels in what will be considered a huge upset no doubt...Shawn Michaels is the new World Wrestling Federation Champion.

Lex Luger Shoot Interview 2012: Part 2 Interviewer: So now we're at the King of the Ring, you get an injury and lose the championship spot. Now was it true that you were supposed to win the title that night? Lex: Ya...the plan was that I was going to win the championship as Vince promised. But instead Vince brought me in to his office after that match with Volkoff (on RAW)...we talked about Hogan at WCW, which was why he countered it with Rude coming in and that New Generation announcement yet...the Old School Posse was still so over...I mean they were selling more Posse shirts than I was selling my own, but to be fair it was combined merchandise for them (Posse + individuals such as Macho Man, Hot Rod etc). Anyway what Vince really wanted was something completely shocking and unpredictable at KOTR and it ended up being Shawn Michaels getting the title. So we came up with the idea for the kayfabe injury at KOTR for me. Interviewer: Did Shawn know that he was getting the title beforehand? Lex: Definitely not, he was told the day of and was in complete shock. Originally I wanted a passing of the torch with Macho Man winning and dropping it to me at SummerSlam, but something happened not sure what though but with Randy and Vince, Vince just wanted him gone and decided to award it to Shawn. I had no problem with that because Vince told me that Shawn would lose the title in a few weeks and Rick Rude would become the Old School Posse leader and win the title. This way the setup would be Lex vs. Rude at SummerSlam and I'd get the title and we'd continue the feud till the Royal Rumble and then I would drop the title to Bret at Wrestlemania XI and that was the real plan from the beginning. Interviewer: Yet Bret Hart got the title at SummerSlam from Shawn? Bret seems to have resentment with you from what he wrote... that you played politics and there was heat in the back between you and him...what was all that about? Lex: O man (laughs)...you know Bret is a great performer, have a lot of respect for his in-ring work...let me tell you what happened see Vince and I planned things out and I meant in all honesty I meant to drop the title to Bret at Wrestlemania because at the time I really believed Bret deserved it, but I also thought Bret didn't really need the belt. He was one of those unique guys like Jake Roberts or Undertaker who didn't really need the belt. He was already a former champion, had great feuds...but I just think that Bret...Bret forgot this was Sports Entertainment...he forgot it wasn't real... Interviewer: So what changed? Lex: So it was the summer (of '94), Vince was acquitted from his trial and one day at a house show as I was preparing for a match...Bret comes in the dressing room shouting SOB and all this vulgarity... Interviewer: At you? Lex: Yes...at me...he started blaming me for not getting the spot that he should've won the KOTR and not Shawn and saying that I was another Hulk Hogan bringing him down or whatever...I told him that I would drop the title at Wrestlemania and that is the plan and he didn't believe it and wanted to get in my face...I couldn't take it anymore so I flipped him off and we got into a fight, though I should've just took him to Vince (laughs). Interviewer: Wow didn't know about that. I mean I heard there was heat... Lex: (laughs) Ya we kind of had a quick brawl, but the guys in the back stopped it. Interviewer: So why did Vince decide on Bret getting the title at SummerSlam? Lex: Well after the fight, Vince was pissed and brought us both in that same night into his office so that he could hear it individually. I told him I don't even know what it's about and have nothing to say. So Bret ranted, said he deserved the title and spot worked hard etc...and I think Vince was concerned that he'd leave to WCW. So I basically told Vince right in front of Bret...to give the SummerSlam spot to Bret and I left. It's all funny, because (laughs)...Bret wasn't enough of a draw...sure he was a fan favorite, loved by many...just not enough of a draw and we saw business going down. Interviewer: Why do you think business was down with Bret as Champion? Lex: Well there were a couple of factors. WCW was starting to become legit competition. I was put in the mid-card, I mean imagine Hulk Hogan in the mid-card at the height of his prime? Sure I wasn't as popular as he was, but you get the idea. Then you gotta think about what Bret was doing...for example Bret killed off the Old School Posse push. Bret didn't want to work with Rude because everyone knew the kind of brute he was in the back I mean this is a guy (Rude) that beat up the Ultimate Warrior (laughs) so all those plans just were shot to hell. At least I did my program with Rude at SummerSlam and won that match. So you get Survivor Series...it's Bret and Owen for the title, then Bret & Diesel at the Rumble...PPV's weren't selling well...my contract was coming to an end so WCW made me an offer and I left. Interview: What was this offer? Lex: $1.4 Million guarantee, 60% of royalties from merch, 250 day maximum a year and a small cut from house shows. Vince couldn't meet that offer...back then Vince had the right to counter offers when WCW was getting a WWF Superstar...so I left and parted ways and I felt that with Bret and even Shawn getting up there that there wasn't much left for me. But I'm not going to lie, the money was great. Interviewer: Now you had a second run with the WWF Championship belt, can you tell us a little bit about that? Lex: Well ya, because I was promised the title. Vince had Shawn drop it to me on a house show, which he was fine with it too and it was because Shawn had a minor injury needed heeling so it was just at house shows. Plus I was originally billed on a few house shows as champion. So that was a mix up. I won the title on July 5th '94 from Shawn, so I got Curt again and Rude for house shows matches and I held it till August 1st...and it's funny because Shawn was still the WWF Champion on TV. So I lost the title on August 1st to Shawn with a stipulation that the title can change with a DQ or Countout. It was a short run. It's recognized now that I won the title, but back in the 90s, not a lot of people knew about it and it stayed buried till the early 2000s when they put it up on their websites and showing these house show matches.
