Speaking of Rogue One, I fell asleep in the theater when I went to go see it. Got it on Blu Ray when it came out. Watched it a few times since then, and watched it again today. It has become one of my favorite Star Wars movies, it was awesome seeing Vader, and the whole story behind the Death Star plans. Loved Admiral Raddus saying “Rogue One, may the force be with you.”

I am a lifelong Star Wars. I've seen every SW movie on within a week or two of opening, bought them on VHS in the olden days and then rebought them on DVD. I was ecstatic when the news came out that we would be getting new Star Wars movies. I enjoyed TFA although it had some faults. I enjoyed Rogue One even more and thought it showed that Disney was getting on track and that the franchise was in good hands. That's why it makes me sad to say it but I really didn't like The Last Jedi. I'm talking "leave the theater wanting my money back" levels of dislike.
I know it's a matter of personal taste but for me there were a ton of problems with the movie. There were too many unbelievably silly plot developments for me to ignore. The older characters didn't feel right to me and the newer characters all feel one dimensional. There were too many out of place jokes that weren't all that funny. There were too many cash grab characters who were seemingly included just to fill a spot in the toy lines. Laura Dern and Benicio del Toro's characters were completely unnecessary and their stories could have been cut from the film, in fact probably should have been cut along with the entire side trip to the gambling planet. I could go on but it's depressing to keep listing all the flaws.
I was a teenager when the first Star Wars film came out and now I'm a 50 year old grumpy old man. I'm pretty sure my displeasure with this movie is as much due to the fact that I've grown up and like my sci fi to have a brain but Star Wars hasn't grown up. In fact, with TLJ it seems like it has regressed to kindergarten levels. Not sure how excited I will be for part IX and beyond but I doubt they will be a priority for me. As I said, I am sad to say that Star Wars has gone from "must see" to "wait for DVD" for me.

Wish Ackbar would have been the one to sacrifice himself if anything. Canto Bight was supposed to be cool, the way it was portrayed made me dislike it.

56% audience rating from R.T.says it all. Movie was an utter fail. $220 million opening weekend says otherwise. You know very little about opening weekend numbers. They r based on hype. And in this case the star wars hype. I bet you that this weekend has a over 50% drop off. Which would be very telling in the word of mouth which is the actual gauge of telling if a movie connects. Care to take the bet?

The RT thing was bullcrap and it will probably do good this weekend. It really doesn’t have any completion at the box office for a bit. It’s still getting great reviews all over, only ones really trashing it are jaded “anti-hype” guys

The movie is a huge misstep. I'm not going to rehash the litany of issues from the beginning of a your momma joke to the casino planet to crashing into Finn's speeder with not sacrificing yourslef to save all those ppl but love will win to Luke force projecting and dying where he could have just Came in PERSON Not jaded just honest

Yeah there is negative reception all over the place. If you can’t see that you are either a huge fan boy or burying your head in the sand.
I’ve tried to do so many mental gymnastics to get myself to come around to this movie but just end up disliking it more. I am genuinely jealous of people who liked it.
I hate the people who say that you only don’t like it because it didn’t align with your theories or because it took risks. I have never made my own theories or read them online and I welcome a new direction for Star Wars if it is done well. I don’t dislike it for those reasons, I dislike it because it was a just a poor movie.

For what it is, the last Jedi is a great movie. Sure, certain things don’t end up being more important than you think they should be...but hell, it’s not a re-hash as some claim the force awakens was. Just enjoy it for what it is. A fun time at the movies, building a new story and characters around a similar plot line. I can be a called a fanboy boy, but I’m excited to see how they end this trilogy.

I watched it today and enjoyed it a fair bit...would definitely watch again.
TFA and R1 made me a fan of SW again, and this movie reaffirmed it for me. Great stuff.

I was starting to get out of Star Wars, then TFA came out. Got instantly hooked again. Rogue One is a movie I can watch time and time again. TLJ was a solid movie.

I just got back from seeing it.
Thank you, Disney, for raping my childhood yet again.
Did Mark Hamill know he was making The Last Jedi? Or did he think he was doing a Robot Chicken parody?
SPOILER WARNING:
Anyone else think that Yoda looked a lot like Andy Milonakis?
I sat through the credits & realized Adrian Edmondson (British comedian from The Young Ones & Bottom) played Captain Peavey. If I ever see this film again, I'll have to keep an eye out for him.

Disney is in buisness for one thing, and that is making money. Plot holes aren't just there because they were skipped. There is a think tank at Disney star Wars that has mapped out book releases to fill the void in aome of these points. Heir To the Jedi mentions force projections. That book was part of New Canon and was intergrated in to TLJ. The new Book Trilogy put us in the war and all events that led to Jakku, giving that planet a history. Disney even gave EA a story to boost history into the Empire, The Resistance, The First Order, and Jakku itself. If you want these voids filled, the EU is ever expanding thanks to Disney. Go pick a few up and get emerged into the universe.

Here in lies the problem in our society. star Wars has always been about filling in the gaps and its part of the fun. But if you're not willing to fully invest in learning more about the little details of things, ya might as well slap on an episode of the simpsons and watch it. Granted SW isn't necessarily known for making people think, but as you said, Disney is in a business and they are gonna flesh this franchise out to any medium they can. And that's how it should be because for every person that doesn't like reading a book there's someone who likes a video game or likes a good comic. If your gonna be a Star Wars fan, be willing to invest in it all the way around. You don't want to read stuff, get in YouTube and listen to the breakdowns of the expanded canon. Hell they pulled in THRAWN from the EU, but ya know apparently that's not enough. I just read phasmas book and it was very eye opening to who she was and gives possibilty that she's probably not dead. The little compass that luke has? Used to find the Jedi temple. Leia and Holdo actually grew up together as mentioned in one of the books. There's so much depth to these movies if people choose to invest in it instead of going with their knee jerk pre conceived ideas.

SPOILER I WANRED YOU! I love how a lot of speculation says the new trilogy will be based on the boy at the end of TLJ. Rian Johnson said that it will NOT be the Old Republic and will have all NEW characters, none that we have previously seen in the Star Wars galaxy.

Personally I'd love to see the old republic, but with how much fanboys see that time period playing out, they wouldn't even give rian a chance. To be honest though, do we need another prequel that's going to bring us to a conclusion we already know? If they look at a whole new part of the galaxy I'm totally on board with that too. Only gives Star Wars a great shelf life.
