WWE has luchadores in the CWC. They have applied for copyrights to Gran Metalik. Octagon Jr. became Kalisto.
ROH has an official working agreement with CMLL. There will be a lucha match on ROH TV this weekend. And it has been announced that CMLL workers will appear at the ROH Mania weekend show.
Is all of that a result of Lucha Underground's popularity? Wrestling has always had a "it works so let's copy it and do it to death" mentality. Is the influx of lucha in US promotions the current "in" thing to do?

IMO The reason lucha libre is getting so much exposure is because as a genre of wrestling (not a specific promotion) it is the closest thing to competition the WWE has.
The closest promotional competition the WWE has are on channels that very few people get much less watch.
But everybody gets Youtube, and what promotions are putting full shows up or at least hardcore promoting their product there? - lucha libre.
AAA, CMLL, and Liga Elite post full shows. Lucha Underground, although not posting full shows, post their main events and special, important matches making it easy to keep up and stay involved.
After WWE, lucha as a genre is getting the most exposure simply because everyone has the ability to watch.

Nope. Lucha Underground is popular because it is good. It's not like Lucha is everywhere. Lucha is always going to be a part of wrestling, it's not a fad, it's not like CMLL or AAA are getting hugely popular. It's the same as its always been just Lucha Undergound is prevalent.
