Ryback thinks he is still as popular as he was in 2012 lol He would be if WWE didn't drop the ball on him. A lot of Ryback's grievances seem to be that he would be a bigger star, or in a position to draw money, or make more money if WWE didn't book him into the ground when he was massively over. Come on guys, it would have been just like when Steamboat left and came back as a ninja!! It wouldn't have worked. It would have gotten out that he wasn't really gone and that the whole thing was a work. The fans would have s**t on him for trying to pull one over on them. Even if the plan didn't leak out, it wouldn't have worked. Because then it would have looked as if Ryback couldn't make it in MMA and decided to come back with his tail between his legs. I wouldn't have minded seeing the match, but it didn't need a ridiculous, swerve of a build. Even if that were the case, Ryback would've been facing someone who got his ass handed to him in MMA so badly that he decided that it would be easier to just go back to WWE and ragdoll untrained smaller guys with impunity. It evens out.

Dunno why everyone is so down on this idea. I think it'd have been pretty good actually. Ryback is overestimating it greatly, but how much better would this have been than that stupid match with Ambrose last year?

I actually really like Ryback and feel that the WWE ed up by not having him go over John Cena that first time. I think it would have cemented him as a top star. But at the same time the gist of what I am getting here is that he asked for 6 months off to go and work out and was shocked when they knocked him back. The idea of the story line sounds pretty cool, but I am not surprised Vince said no.

😂 You think Ryback was pitching for six months off back when he'd just debuted? He said he's been pitchng him vs Lesnar for the last 3 years. Which would be 2013. Ryback was at the height of his popularity in October 2012 You realise 2013 was after October 2012, right? Or did you get the dates confused?

Thats a really good idea, I miss the days where you couldnt tell storyline from real life. There was a time where the Feed me More chants were extremely loud and he was getting the loudest pop of the night, but WWE failed to capitalize.

WWE could have done more with Ryback, especially if they hadn't cut his legs out from under him in 2012 when he was actually really over and they turned him heel for no reason....
But yeah, no.....he's not on the level as Brock Lesnar, the guy who broke the Undertaker's streak and mauled John Cena at SummerSlam (kayfabe accomplishments, I know).

I wouldn't have minded seeing the match, but it didn't need a ridiculous, swerve of a build. This is an incredibly understated point in all of this. Ryback going off to train for 6 months and not fight isn't going to do anyone any favours. At best he comes back and tries to pass 6 months of MMA training off against a former UFC Heavyweight champion and makes a mockery of both MMA and Pro Wrestling. At worst he gets injured training, the angle goes up in smoke and everyone is made to look like fools when he just scraps the training and returns to the 'E. Also, Ryback was over for a period there - I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say it wasn't just his chant, he was getting some good reactions outside of the 'Feed Me More' when he first went after Punk - but he wasn't anywhere near close to being over enough (and wouldn't have gotten over enough with this idea of his) to draw the kind of byrates he's suggesting here, let alone that on top of the money it'd cost WWE to let him disappear for 6 months and get full time MMA training. The trick to making a believable opponent for Brock Lesnar isn't necessarily in trying to match up to him physically (not that 6 months of MMA training on top of Ryback's limited in ring ability would make anyone buy him as credible) but to throw something in favour of his opponent. The Street Fight with CM Punk was the perfect example, and Dean Ambrose at Wrestlemania SHOULD have also been that way. Or find some way to get into his head and give the opponent a psychological advantage (Kevin Owens or Nakamura could probably pull this off). One final aside, which as a bystander may have made this all worth it. Could you imagine how pissed off CM Punk would have been if Ryback got the ok for this? Oh man...

I'm a big fan of "is this really a work?" storylines, so I would've been all for this. At the very least, it would've been something different and exciting involving Lesnar, as opposed to them just randomly announcing his opponent with no backstory like they did at SummerSlam.

LOL@ Ryback thinking he could take on Brock Lesnar and drawing buyrates with 6 months of MMA training. It's glorious. I love how he laid out his absurd idea, then sat dumbfounded when Vince didn't agree to it. It went over Vince's head, lolz

I honestly dislike Ryback a ton, but I do think this is an angle that could have worked. Would it break records? Absolutely not, but it certainly would have been cool to see them blur the lines with him just to setup a Brock match.
Take Ryback out of the equation, insert Cesaro or Sheamus, or anyone really, and I think you have a money angle. So while Ryback was probably the wrong guy for the pitch, what he was saying was right imo.

He needs to stop talking about WWE and CM Punk. Enough.

This guy's his own biggest fan. He thinks he's a bigger star than he actually is.

In 2012 Ryback vs Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania actually would have seemed like a legit match. But Ryback's idea for it is absurd.

-- The only star who could rival Brock on an MMA'esque storyline, would be Bobby Lashley. Brock may've been the UFC Champion for his division, but Bobby's had 3x more fights than Brock's had all together. Ryback? Not for an MMA like storyline. I can see the whole typical 'battle of the bulls' with both guys being huge, but it wouldn't be anything other than that.
It was nice that Ry gave CM some respect, despite their animosity. It shows he can be a pretty cool guy.
And not meaning to totally defend Ryback, but I don't blame him one bit for believing in his own hype/gimmick. Kowalski used to say that wrestling was a form of advertisement, and that's all he's doing, he's advertising the fact that he's this huge, massive guy who can conquer the world. Plus personally, when I trained 10yrs ago, 1 of the bits of advice I remember getting was "live like you are the gimmick & practice it 24/7". That's why when I see others bashing him for believing in his own hype, I instantly think 'well, maybe that's what he's supposed to do' - especially to keep his head above water, sorta speak.

Ryback never had the charisma or mic skills. They should have just pushed him as an ass kicker cuz he always had a good look
