Hey guys, I didn't see a thread for Final Fantasy XV. I'm a bit early making a thread, but I wanted to get the ball rolling.
Amazon has the Hardcover Strategy Guide for $23.99 today. I'm sure that's the cheapest it will be during pre-sell.

I made one before it was pushed back, again, but hey, as long as the game actually comes out this time I have no complaints!
I got into FF, oddly enough, through Class Zero on the console. I much prefer that style of game play than previous FF installments and the game makers have said that Class Zero was it was its own entity but the battle style on console was a test to see what would work and what would not in a revamped FF in regards to XV. Can't wait.

I have it pre-ordered on Amazon. I thought the Kingsglaive movie was pretty awesome. So I'm excited to see them pick up where the Noctis story picks up at the end of the movie. I loved the Nyx character. I hope they do a prequel game with him if 15 ends up being a success.
We'll see. I stopped trying to follow the updates for this game awhile ago with all of the delays. I hope this is more story driven than open world, which is a tragic trend in FF games over the last several installments. This game has been in development so long it's still considered part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis. It's kind of weird from that perspective. I didn't mind FF13 but it was largely forgettable, and the sequels were worse.
Based on the movie, I'm guessing the entire premise of the game is Noctis and his buddies avenging his father and harnessing the power of the royals/crystal to take down Niflheim.

Been a good year for Collector's Edition. Found WWE2K17 in the wild, was lucky enough to be browsing Amazon at the right time to pick up SAO and now Square Enix e-mailed me with the best news possible. Still keeping my Amazon order be SE shipping will be about 2 weeks after release.

I read through some of the reviews today. The positive remarks have me really intrigued, but the negative criticisms on the game are troubling. Especially the car traveling.
I'm likely just going to push this onto my Christmas wishlist, and focus on some other titles in the meantime. This is a game I want to immediately start once I get it, and not let any of it slip into my backlog.

I got mine today. Been playing. Oh, Noctis is my first Play Arts Kai figure, nearly 10inches tall and it's bad azz! Can't be any happier as a Final Fantasy Fan Boy! It's a shame that there weren't many people who played the demo with FFType0 (which is the the very beginning of the FFXV game)..... The game plays wells and there is not one reason for Final Fantasy fans shouldn't be playing this entry. I do think people should watch this video. There is a lot of background story that should be viewed prior to playing:

Thanks for the video, nerdy. I was thinking about waiting to pick this up in a few months, but I think I'll grab it this week.

Just been leveling up on a bunch of fetch quests and tinkering with battle strategies and magic mixing. Currently 36 levels and just starting chapter 3.

I'm about 10 hours in as well, but I've stuck more to the story than doing the extra stuff. I'm not really a fan of the GTA approach of doing the side quests. I have no problem with level building for the characters, and upgrading the weapons isn't bad with Cyd (And his hot daughter who awkwardly keeps showing off her cleavage), but I'm just more of a traditional RPG fan. So this isn't exactly what I was hoping for out of the game. Fishing and taking pictures is stuff designed to fill up play time and I hate that kind of stuff. Like getting the Gold Scale in Ocarina of Time is one of the most obnoxious parts of a nearly perfect game, and that actually had a purpose.
The battle system is fine. I enjoy turn based RPGs though. FF7 is my favorite game of all time. So that's the standard for me. Too much of the battle system relies on you hanging from stuff and doing that phase sword attack and then repeating it. You also get mob attacked quite a bit, and it's virtually impossible to put distance between you and the mob. I just finished touching all 3 of the lightning stones, or whatever those things were supposed to be, and I kept fighting soldiers and then having that giant toad thing jump in the battle. Most of the battles feel like a major annoyance more than anything else.
The cooking and camping is kind of cool. The car was cool at first but you really don't control it and don't you dare try and turn the thing without being prompted. I can't tell you how many times I've tried to pull into gas stations just to have to whip a bunch of U-turns so the Park prompt comes up. Following Ardyn when he makes those first couple of turns was laughably bad. The load times for the game seem pretty long as well, especially between chapters.
All that being said, the story is kind of intriguing to me so far. The dungeons are challenging and I like the scenes with Noc communicating back-and-fourth with Luna via the dog. The story of their past and her being the Oracle is pretty good. Noc running around trying to find the old swords is a nice goal oriented gameplay mechanism. It gives you a reason to go from place-to-place. I really enjoyed the Titan level and that was a cool chaotic boss battle.
I hate to be a downer, but this feels like more of the same from a series that just doesn't know how to find its way back. It's not that it's a bad game. It's not even that it's not fun, or challenging. It's that this series used to be something incredibly special and the last several installments have felt like games you play through and they don't leave a lasting impression on you. I thought this game was going to end up on the pedestal with the likes of 6,7 and X. It's not even close for me so far. It's early. I'm on Chapter 5, I believe. So only about 1/3 of the way through. So I'll carry on.
Also, one last thing, is it difficult for those who went into the story cold to understand what is going on? If I hadn't seen Kingsglaive, I don't think I'd understand the story at all. The cutscenes don't really explain the story. They've largely been flashes of what happened in Kingsglaive or direct follow up to what happened in the movie. But without the movie as context I don't see how you can understand the extent of the invasion on Lucis by Niflheim or that Noc needs the ring from Luna and the power of the dead Kings to get the crystal back. I mean the guy lost his father, and they all lost their King and home, and they're essentially carefree road tripping around the countryside. It's a weird dynamic, and you're getting a bit of a convoluted story in that regard.

To me, it's a mash-up of game elements of Fallout and the .Hack series. The open world is refreshing and every place I've went feels unique. If you all a fan of doing sub-quest or doing checklist objectives, you won't hate it. The battle system is similar to .Hack, you can get mobbed, but if you stay a few levels ahead of a quest it difficultly is challenging but easier. The AP system has to be used, it's easy to navigate and closes resembles FFXV sphere grids. Other than that, I enjoy the fishing, car costuming, and many other experiences.
I'm level 38 and had to run away from an imperial ship. It dropped a level 76 mech lol.
