If it happens it will probably be by Roman. to get back at him because punk has a part in why. Roman has been rejected. Nope. If you're implying that fans hate Roman because Punk said "Make Roman Look Strong" on a podcast, WWE were going to, you know, DO that regardless.

The record is held by the number one guy on the list.
Punk isn't even top 5.

On a slightly different note...
Have you ever noticed how everyone yearns for longer reigns, but when we do get one, they claim it was done to spite the previous record holder?

AJ Styles can and should hold the title longer. IMO

John Cena is only 2,647 days away from breaking Bruno Sammartino’s combined reigns record of 4,040 days. Since the majority of the WWE Universe hates the Universal Belt, I think Cena should get traded to Raw (for Cesaro, Sami Zayn and whoever else all of you want to move from Raw to Smackdown), win the Universal Championship, and then disappear and only show up at the Big 4 pay per view events, successfully defending the Universal Title 4 times a year, until the record is broken. Cena could even extend it further by breaking Sammartino’s single reign record of 2,803 as well.
This will serve multiple purposes and should make everyone happy. The Big Red Belt would only be on TV 4 out of 365 days a year. John would be off TV for 4 out of 365 days a year. John Cena ties Ric Flair’s record. After breaking Bruno’s two records, Cena could cement his legacy as the greatest of all time. Cena’s career could last longer being that his only Wrestling 4 times a year in a 7 year period and free to venture off into other things…as the WWE Universal Champion.

AJ Styles can and should hold the title longer. IMO Unfortunately, AJ Styles is probably losing the belt at the Royal Rumble. It's ironic too, because they took the belt off Punk at the Rumble and put it on The Rock just to get it to Cena at WrestleMania....and whoever beats AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble will be getting the belt just to get it to Cena at Wrestlemania too.....

LOL at those who think Owens could ever hold it that long. It'll be broken one of these days. Roman should be the one to do it. He will be there next number one if people don't like it or not.

Its not technically a record but the actual record can really never be broken. It is a modern era record and yes I think they will eventually have someone break it if only to spite Punk.

LOL. And I can't ever see Cena wanting to do that because aside from injuries or TV/movies he's always there. Honestly, WWE shouldn't even care about breaking records anymore, all we see now are lackluster fueds just so champions can hold onto the belt longer.

I feel that way about New Day. Part of me feels like if Demolition weren't in the lawsuit that there wouldn't be a drive to keep mentioning their reign and now New Day is close to breaking their record. New Day have been so stale for MONTHS that I feel like they should have lost the titles, but since they're close to breaking Demoliton's record that we'll see them drop them soon once they break the record. Kinda like now Nikki dropped as soon as she beat AJ's record.

Honestly, WWE shouldn't even care about breaking records anymore, all we see now are lackluster fueds just so champions can hold onto the belt longer. One, nobody is going to b+!c# about John Cena not being on WWE TV every week. I believe people b!+c# about John Cena being there every week. When he took some time off TV, my Son missed him and started losing interest that in the product as a whole. Then when I took him to his first ever Smackdown in Philly this past September, the first person to come to the ring was none other than my Son’s favorite of all time, John Cena. There is nothing wrong with a franchise player taking some time off. Two, nobody is going to b!+c# that the Big Red Belt isn’t on WWE TV every week. I believe people b!+c# about the Universal Championship Title Belt, what it stands for, how it looks and especially how it’s used. If it were to disappear for a few weeks, people may miss it a little. I think Cena taking the Big Red Belt and working the Hulk Hogan late 80s early 90s TV schedule would do wonders for not only the Universal Championship, but for the entire roster. Let the work horses work, and let the already Legend / unofficial WWE Hall Of Famer take a longer break more often. Let’s stretch Cena’s career out further, and have him only make sporadic appearances as the Face that runs the place. He’ll sell shirts with or without him on TV. Three, nobody is going to b!+c# unless the only thing they do is b!+c#. The Rock was Champion for about 2 - 3 months. I, myself, didn't see an issue with this because we had Alberto Del Rio as World Heavyweight Champion at the same time. On the opposite side of that coin, when Brock Lesnar was Champion, it had that Hulk Hogan late 80s early 90s TV schedule feel to it. To me, it felt like the WWE Championship Title was as important as it was back in the days of when I started watching Professional Sports Wrestling Entertainment. Having the Champion only show up at PPVs and the occasional Raw / Smackdown can give the sense of importance once again. Point is, there’s nothing anyone can do about b!+c#e$ b!+c#!n6.

👑🇵🇭⭐️ Cena's been pretty good since not being WWE champion in the last 2 years. His fued with Rusev, US title open & fued with Styles & The Club were great. I can't wait to see him back on TV. And the last thing we need is for him to win the WWE or Universal title showing up 4 times a year for 7 years just to surpass Bruno Sammartino's reign because a Hogan's 80's/90's TV schedule won't work in 2016... Since the draft, both shows need a main event title. It worked fine in the last draft and will continue to do so. The only problem right now with the Universal title is that Kevin Owens is being overshadowed by Chris Jericho as the top heel on RAW.

Plus with an extended absence, he would be missed more than being criticized for hogging the spotlight. 2 birds - record breaking reign / combined reigns, and the Face makes room for others in the place, 1 stone - WWE Universal Champion, Jjjjoooohhhhnnnn Cccceeeennnnaaaa!!
