I would have spent any amount of cash to see Undertaker v. Cena with "The Streak" on the line. The intensity, drama, and downright uneasiness that match would have produced would have been unthinkable. I agree. This truly would have been the match of the generation (if the streak was still in tack). Damn...

My money is on Taker-Cena next year.
That'll be the time to beat Taker.
Let him have a run this year then retire him at WM 34 in the same building the streak was broken at.
Kinda like Hogan and Manias in Toronto. He just loses there

I think that protects him some in his final defeat. Not that he needs it but it's a cool element to create imo.

I'm sure Cena will beat him so why not have the venue be a story in itself. Taker loses twice in The NO

How do news reports find this stuff out. Do they go up to Vince and ask him what are his plans and he just gives it to them?

With Meltzer and the handful of other worthwhile dirtsheet reporters, they have numerous sources in WWE -- though they're often fed false info, or something that they hear and speculate wrongly on. Vince himself did talk to Meltzer back in the nineties for a while and give out info, but I don't think he has since the Monday Night Wars ended.

Why is everyone acting as if it is 100% true?

Best case scenario: Roman turns heel then beats the Undertaker at WM. Imagine the response he'd get, Reigns would be the top bad guy in the company. Worst case scenario: Roman looks strong squashing the Undertaker and there's no character progression. A Roman heel turn has been brought up a billion times. I wish everyone would let it go it isn't going to happen. He's not pulling off being a babyface...don't know what else he could do. lol

When the streak was intact this was THE match. Now? Not so much.
Cena was the one guy older fans feared breaking the streak....because he was a legit threat to it. with all of that buzzing in the background the atmosphere going into the match would have been epic.
Now? that match has lost a lot of its fizz.

If I was Undertaker, I'd tell Vince I'm skipping WrestleMania this year. There is no way he should waste his time in a match with Braun Strowman or Roman Reigns; both which would likely result in him putting either guy over. If you were Undertaker, you'd have more sense of perspective on the industry and the company rather than rage-quitting WrestleMania over generic Internet fan type complaints about Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman. Taker is very unlikely to make demands along the lines of "put me in a WrestleMania match losing to a guy under 220lbs for the world title or I'm not showing up." He'll make his decision based on the payday and the creative, but his opinion on creative matters will likely differ very much from people who complain endlessly about Strowman and Roman. Regardless, it seems like taking this match off the card would do more harm than good. Cena vs Undertaker lost tons of appeal when the streak ended, but it's still a much bigger match than either of them can have separately. Maybe that's the issue. I guess if Mr McMahon feels like he needs this match to headline next year and he can count on Brock and Goldberg this year, that'd explain it.

Yeah, I agree with what most are saying - I think Vince wants his head tested to axe this match, his decision to have it scrapped baffles me, because what with the product being currently poor and RAW rapidly loosing more viewers each week - this would have been 1 of the matches to keep fans interested.
really dumb move scrapping it.

Frankly, I have little to no interest in this match, so I'm not bothered.
Give me the Phenom vs the Phenomenal One instead

But Cena and Taker have met before, they faced off at Vengeance 2003 - back when Cena was a smug rap-star heel on the smackdown! brand he had a singles match with Taker on that card.

I think the most interesting thing here, if this is true, is what does Cena do if he's not facing Taker and he has the title? There's no one for him to face on Smackdown unless they do Styles again, and that seems unlikely. He could face Roman Reigns, but he seems to be in line to face Braun Strowman. Goldberg and Lesnar are likely paired up. It just sort of leaves him, and the title, in a bit of a limbo and all but guarantees they have to do a inter-promotional angle with him.
I guess I'd expect Cena/Reigns to happen in that case, while Strowman maybe gets paired off with Taker. It seems really short-sighted to pull the trigger on that this year, though, unless Reigns is going to turn heel. He's still a complete failure of a babyface and I doubt the audience will treat either of those guys kindly if they headline Wrestlemania together.
