Hell, I've gotten things pulled from the back and opened cases setting on pallettes many times just because that's about the only way to have a chance to still pay retail price before the scalpers get it.
Gotta beat them at their own game! ;-)

... but I love having good friends ! My buddy Joe Delta and his awesome other half, were looking out for me today. They stopped in a Wal-Mart that's about 45 minutes from my house to get a few things and knew that I was looking for these ! My local Wal-Mart got in one case, but a scalper purchased the entire thing, before it even hit the floor ... none on order atm. Oh, I picked up that awesome Ultimate Warrior coozie from FYE, earlier in the day. Huge thanks guys ! Seems like your thread got hijacked by real scalper talk. Just in case it gets locked, you got some good friends looking out for you! Real glad to see these getting into good peoples hands!

This. I know hot wheels collectors will buy all of a certain car, just so its scarce and hard to find. That way, people have to go to them to buy it at a premium. ... and this is exactly what the employees say about this guy, so yea ... Scalper Said that he'll sit and wait for them to bring the stuff to the floor and sift through it before they even hit the shelves, it's pathetic. Joe saved me a lot of hassle ! Hot Wheels guys are lunatics, i used to work at Kmart, in the toys, and they CONSTANTLY accused use of taking the "good ones" before we brought them to the floor. They'd pull cases from the bottom of a pallet stack just to rip them open. It got to the point that we started opening the cases in the back and wouldn't include them on the typical stock pallets. Dudes were intense.

This is the most effective way to get the figures that you want, or any retail collectibles for that matter. Whether the roadblock is local competition or poor distribution, securing the help of family or friends is a sure-fire way to rid yourself of frustration. Congrats on the new additions, OSC. The Natural Disaster figures are amazing.

Used to work at TRU and this one guy would call and pester me over some BS "ultra rare" figure he just had to have. Those are the ones that should be dragged out into the street and beaten with a hot wheels car.

I think 5 per customer is the best bc that keeps scalpers at bay. Who needs that many of one kind unless they are trying to screw everyone else on the 2nd hand market.

There's at least one member here who often will buy many of one new figure because they hit his area first and he helps out other collectors. Any big box store would be stupid to issue a limit of figures you can buy. They're there to make money and whether or not you like people who resell, those people are still giving the store money.

There would be a exception for people with business licenses that buy wholesale directly from the factory. We hurt the scalpers by taking away their hustle & also reissuing the ones they scalped like AJ, elite Legends & RSC exclusives. Marking them down so they won't buy them out of stock to sell them on the 2nd market for 3x+ the price.

You're saying that a guy such as @what? would need to get a business license just so he can help out fellow collectors? Stores don't care who is buying their stuff as long as it's getting paid for. Most "scalped" items that are new in stores don't need to be reissued, because after a couple months, they become easier to find. There will be no need to reissue an AJ Styles figure, because he'll eventually not be that hard to find nor will he go for that much on the secondary market. If Mattel follows your logic, then half of the line will become previously released figures, which seems to punish real collectors as much as it does the "scalpers."

Only a dumb idea to scalpers who need their agenda. If people take 5 or more of a figure you know what they are up too. 99.999999 percent of the buyers buy 1-3 at the most of a single figure.
Too each is own but that would solve the scalper problem people don't like & that's a fact!
Reissuing markets down the price from a 100+ figure scalpers prey on the secondary market/Ebay.
Elite Legends UW is the perfect example of that & so is the Elite 48 Cactus Jack reducing the exclusives price which is a good thing. Not for secondary market vultures.
Reissuing markets down the price of exclusives & that is common knowledge.

I think 5 per customer is the best bc that keeps scalpers at bay. Who needs that many of one kind unless they are trying to screw everyone else on the 2nd hand market. The real issue is that the secondary market isn't the concern of the production company or the retail seller. More restrictions like that would hamper their sales. We don't need to be concerned with other people flipping figures because the internet has opened up many avenues for the purchasing of goods. This thread is proof of that. If a collector is struggling with competition in his/her area, then he or she should get other people to help him or her.

NO it would not because NOBODY buys 5 of the same figure. The secondary market private sellers/scalpers haver nothing to do with retailers as they sell their own stuff. But on their website even on the 2nd they sell at affordable prices.
This thread on-topic is about hating scalpers & I agree. Do you see the title? LOL!
It's funny the pathetic excuses scalpers are making bc I said something that really threatens them & they quickly respond like they scared insecure.
I merely made a suggestion. That's the ONLY way to desuade scalpers who go to the store leaving the back garage with boxes of the same figure or cases before they are even put on the shelves.
Collectors go to the store & get 1 of each bc they have consideration. Scalpers goal is to make money going to different stores clogging up any chance for anybody else to get the figure.
My opinion is 5 per customer if there is limited stock so more fans can get one for sure & my opinion stands.

You're sure of that? You're 100% sure that there isn't a father out there with 7 wrestling fan kids who all want a Cena fig for their birthdays? You're sure that there isn't a youth pastor who cleaned out several pegs as presents for his youth group? And no collector ever, in the history of figure collecting, saw a BOGO or clearance sale and bought numerous figures for trade? On a personal note, I have an army of DCUC Manhunter Robots. Yes, I have more than 5 of the same figure. Many figures in other lines lend themselves to being part of an army. I'd be furious if my purchasing of these figures was, in any way, limited by the maker or the retailer. Their only interest should be my money, not what I choose to do with those figures after I purchase them.
