Because I can't connect to people on an emotional level.
In all seriousness, I don't know, once I get new figures, they are opened, posed and put on a shelf. I guess there is s weird sense of pride about having a nice sized, neat collection.
The nice thing about wrestling is it's ongoing, and there is a plethora of material to go back and re watch, so it's easy to stay interested.

Interesting thread, as I wondered the same for others its pretty much the same with me. Its really a fun hobby especially hunting for them even though some makes it seem like thats the worst part about collecting. Feeling the thrill seeing that figure you've been looking for is one of the best highs lol

I did (past tense) to secure a victory for my childhood.
When I was a kid, the LJN wrestlers weren't always available for purchase where I lived. I had Ricky Steamboat and Randy Savage,George Steele, Hogan and Andre,Tito,Iron Sheik and Volkoff and few others. But it was never enough. My brothers got the G.I. Joes and Transformers that were plentiful but the wrestling section was scarce or just plain void. I left the toy store sad on many occasions. I wanted the Bulldogs and Hart Foundation. Warrior. Paul Orndorff.
So when I saw a Shawn Michaels wrestling figure in the store about 20 years ago,I snapped it right up! I was making great money and had my own car and it was off to the races to find any and all figures. I had boxes and boxes of them. No more sad childhood for me! Then one day, I sold them all in a garage sale. It was just time to let them go. Kids from all over the neighborhood were buying figures and leaving happy and that was just awesome.
My wife and I welcomed our son to the world in '08 and I knew one day he'd be a fan. We started collecting Mattel figures and having fun all over again. I made light shows for his entrances and held a digital countdown for his numerous Royal Rumbles. So cool. But the video game era consumed all of his time and he quickly lost interest in wrestling all together so my days of collecting were over once again.
I still have a few MOC figures that take me back to my childhood and , if you know anything about me, you know I'm anxiously awaiting a Ken Shamrock figure. An elite WMIII Savage and Steamboat would be a multi-purchase, as well. So I still am in the game. You're never fully out of it.

There are some great points here. I'm glad this thread was started. As for me... I don't know why I am a figure collector. I just like what I like.

I had my first wrestling figures before I was even born. My father started a collection for me. Why do I collect? Well I see these toys as works of art. These things have been so awesome over the years. Every figure is its own art piece.

As I stated when I first joined, I didn't have any when I was younger, I was a TF kid. Even after I started watching, didn't get any. After seeing what they've come around to a few years back, I decided I'd give it a whirl since I had a son on the way and actually didn't start til his first Easter. Hopefully it's something I can share with him to show early responsibility and care for something, as with much bigger and more important items in life, ala car, etc. Regardless if he never even cares for wrestling or the collection of figs, he will always have something that was started at his early life and passed to him that I liked as a child and never had.

In a world of working long hours, paying bills and a having a wife, I need escapism. Ive been collecting for 30 years and enjoy it more than ever. Sadly, its becoming more expensive than i ever expected.
I genuinely feel for anybody who doesnt have a hobby.

I started collecting when I lived with my grandparents as a youth. That was the happiest time of my life.
They would give me money to walk to the wal-mart and get a toy every now and then.
Now that they are gone, I think I look to get a little of that feeling back. One wrestler at a time.
I have to tell you, I think Mattel knows this. With all the New Gen guys they've been making and the Retros, it keeps me busy.
I'm 40 now. 89-94 were the years that made me love wrestling.

In order:
- I've been a wrestling fan for over 30 years. I like collecting the action figures and displaying them like a cross between a museum and a shrine to the heroes and villains that have entertained me.
- I have the "obsessive collector" personality trait. First it was baseball cards, then comic books, and over the last decade or so wrestling figures. At least I can control it to the point that I only obsessively collect one thing at a time.
- My inner child is alive and kicking. After a childhood where I never seemed to get the toys I wanted. For example: I wanted a Millennium Falcon but got a Space 1999 shuttle because my parents didn't know the difference between Star Wars and Space 1999 and the shuttle was cheaper. As an adult I am making up for lost time.

Childhood memories and I can relive it simply by looking at them. Bottom line, I love it and it's a physical time piece for me. Physical timepiece. I really like that. I love the continuity of professional wrestling. I can look at the WM 3 DM Hogan and remember what it felt like to be an 8 year old kid fearing that Andre the Giant might actually kill Hulk Hogan. I can look at a Doink figure and remember when I was in high school in '95 and wrestling sucked but I watched it anyway because I was a fan. Any NWO era WCW figure takes me back to the Monday night wars when I was in college and it was cool to be a wrestling fan. Pro wrestling provides a timeline for my life. The figures are just a physical manifestation of that timeline. Great question.

A dangerous cocktail!

I collect because of my love for pro wrestling, it's been a huge part of my life since I was 4. I also collect because it give me fond memories of my dad & I going to live events to see Hogan, savage, andre, jake the snake,etc...I'm also lucky to have a wife who is fine with my collecting wrestling merchandise.
