I would say around 5 years old would be a good age, but younger kids might have a better attention span, it really depends on the kid.

I'd say at least 4, but every kid is different.

I will say 3-4 because
1) old enough to have a conversation about the movie 2) old enough not to cry for no reason

I think about 5 is probably the right age. If they are loud, take them out. Also people who bring their young kids to rated R movies are cringey.

I took my barely 4 year old niece to Ghostbusters with my dad and brothers and she was surprisingly well behaved. This is in contrast with a couple of what looked like 5-6 year olds who were being absolutely obnoxious and dancing around the entire time. She was for sure itching to join in but managed to stick with being good. So I would also agree it definitely depends on the kid, the day, and probably also the movie.

My son is 2, coming up on 3. I know that eventually I'll take him to a movie. And I know that if I notice he's not into it or scared or whatever I'll just walk out. I took him to Monster Jam last year and once the trucks started going at the Allstate Arena he cried with the noise so we left.
For me I want to go because it's a chance to take the wife out to a place where I dont have to do anything but sit back and eat popcorn. For my wife I think it's the excitement of watching something on a giant screen. I'd leave my son with my parents but I dont feel like burdening my elderly parents with my son, who is a handful.

My nephew didn't start actually attentivaly sitting through movies until he was about 7. I took him before that, but it just didn't hold his interest. I remember going to the movies as young as 4-5 years old when I was a kid though. Some of my earliest memories were of me being able to sit down and watch a movie start to finish, and then watching it 100 times over once we got it on VHS. I vividly remember seeing the Last Crusade in theaters and I was born in 84. So do the math.
My son is 8 months right now and I feel like we're just going to play it by ear. If he can sit through movies at home around 5-6 then we'll take him to the theater. If he can't then we'll just wait. I'd agree that each kid is probably different.
I love going to the movies. So my instinct is to rush it, but after going through it with my nephew I don't think there is any reason to push it. Especially now since he would go to a movie every weekend with me if I let him.
