Before any more new flashback figures are revealed for 2017, l decided to take a look back at the flashback Elite style figures from 2016. Some were hits, and some were misses, but there were many Flashbacks MDT put out last year. What was a hit and what was a miss? What era did MDT mostly focus on?
Some omissions are the HOF 3, heenan Family set and Elite 40 flashbacks, that were all available in December 2015 so they are not on here. Some maybe annoyed by not including them, but I got them in 2015 so let it go. The Shield TNF 3 pack are attires from 2 years ago, to call them flashbacks is a stretch so there out. I also left out any straight up rereleased flashbacks from lost legends, HOF Shango and TRU Bossman.
Here we go with a look at the Elite Flashbacks of 2016,
1st Quarter Jan-March 2016
Elite 41 shipped in Jan with a decent Terry Funk, an ok 123 Kid, and Lita the only female Flashback of 2016. Elite 2 packs debuted with a strange choice of NOD members Farooq and Rocky Maivia, both were figures that had many flaws. A very good RSC Wolfpack Kevin Nash, and the horrendous WM 32 Elite Flashback Brock Lesnar soon followed. The DM Stone Cold that maybe a rerealease too many, but the WM14 vest makes it another attire for Austin that we never got before, I had to add him and the 3 titles were a nice inclusion. The TRU exclusive Hunter Herst Helmelsy and the Elite 42 Nast Boys came at the tail end of Q1, all 3 figs have great scans with poor clothing choices.
2nd Quarter April-June 2016
This was a slow 3 months for Flashbacks, as we only got the RSC exclusive Y2J, the disappointing GAB 90 Sting DM, and as part of Elite 43 the long awaited Hart Foundation. IMO Jericho could have had a better scan, Sting was one of MDT's biggest duds ever, and The hart foundation were ok at best.
3rd Quarter July-September 2016
This quarter was filled with surprises and eyebrow raising flashbacks like the Ringmaster popping up out of nowhere on TRU shelfs, 2 underwhelming HBK exclusives, and a shocking SDCC exclusive. The Ultimate Maniancs Warrior and word life John Cena were strangely chosen as DM's. Dusty was packaged with a mini ring no one really wanted, while Bam Bam is an excellent repaint of the legends figure. Magnum T.A finally saw the light of day, and Elite 44 hit us with the UM Macho Man with shirt this time and a very good Tugboat. One of my favorite flashbacks from this quarter was the E45 Narissest Lex Luger, while IMO a below average Steven Regal rounds us out of this quarter.
4th Quarter October-December 2016
The assault of flashback figures reached a peak in the last quarter, so I had to spread them in 2 pics with Elite 46,47,47.5 and 48 all shipping before the end of the year. E46 had Harlem Heat, a tag team I never really asked for, but they turned out to be a home run. E47 had an awesome Tatanka "ripped torso or not" and a horribly put together attitude era Bossman. 47.5 gave us a magnificent Goldust, an excellet Flyin Brain, and Rocky was just really there. The DM WM24 Ric Flair disappointed many with its ripped torso and inaccaurate attire detail, it does not bother me that much as he displays great out of package in his robe. MDT finally gave us an Elite version of WM 12 HBK, with poor head choice and no entrance gear, those EG HBK entrance attires will be very scarce soon.
Like I said above, the assault of flashbacks on my wallet continued in December. I know many on here will consider most of the below flashbacks as 2017 figs. Elite 48 started shipping around Xmas with Boogeyman and a somewhat of a rerealese of Cactus Jack. If I am not mistaken, the tights on the E48 Cactus are different than the RSC exclusive. "I have RSC Cactus as a stand in, as I passed on E48 Cactus". MDT finally gave us HOF 2 packs instead of 4 packs, with a great WM 8 Warrior and the Wild Samaons popping at Targets a few days before Xmas. And finally the shock of the TNF BATB 96 Elite 3 pack popping at Walmarts before the end of the year, and TNF series 2 offered an awesome 99 Macho and fantastic repaints in the Natural Disasters.
First time in the Line Flashback wrestlers of 2016
Below are all the Flashbacks of 2016 displayed by era, these era's are on how I would display them. Lets see what era MDT showed the most love to in 2016.
- Golden Era / Hogan Era Flashbacks 1984 - 1992
I know the Samoans are before this era, but I did not know where else to put them.
- New Generation Flashbacks, 1993 - 1997
I have Farooq in there as he started the NOD in late 96, which sneaks him in to the new genration
- Attitude Era Flashbacks 1997 - 2001
- Ruthless Agression Flashbacks 2002 - 2008
- WCW Flashbacks
