So I had a near-complete Hasbro collection as a kid, which I dearly loved. Though my teen years struck and I needed some quick cash so I sold them all off. As an adult, and with Mattel's new line I've decided to pull the trigger on rebuilding my collection (it's a slow process as I want good condition figs). They're probably the figure line that means the most to me.
I've bought a (loose) Hawk off ebay, which was listed as being in impeccable condition (which is rare because the spikes are nearly always damaged or scuffed). So I bought it and it arrived today, and it feels like the figure has been repainted. The shoulder pad feels slimy to touch and it's awfully shiny/glossy. The seller has a lot of customs listed so I know he's good at painting figures. Are Hawk's pads usually like that, I feel like one of the spikes looks like its missing a tiny corner too (though the spike is still black).
To add weight to this, the member is no longer registered on ebay and the item page 'doesn't exist'.

Glad you hear you're rebuilding your collection! I've had this happen to me a couple of times. Do you have a magnifying glass handy? I'd try to inspect the armor as close as you can. No matter how good the custom, there are usually either brush strokes or errant paint specks out of place somewhere. If you paid via PayPal, there may be a way for you to get your money back with buyer protection. It's unfortunate the account vanished after the sale. Best of luck...

I've had a few Hawk's in my time (job lots etc) and I've never had an overly glossy look to the pads. I'd certainly contact the seller and express your concern

The fact that it was listed as being in impeccable condition but is slimy to touch also suggests that at the very least you didn't get what you paid for.

I've used my magnifying glass on it and I can't see any paint strokes, which is comforting. I can see some paint bleeding on the black outlines running along the outlines along the back/sides. But I'm not sure if that's normal as I don't have another Hawk to compare to in-hand. It's possible it could have sweated in the package? That would maybe explain the slimyness.

Not sure what would cause the figure to sweat, but it may just be dirt/dust build up?

I'm sure Roadwarrior Hawk is pissed about these Nigerian princes and boner pills

I've heard about stuff happening like this to figures people opened themselves back when they first came out, however like someone said if it said impeccable condition and it isn't...and it's bothering you...doesn't hurt trying to get your money back and you could always sell it and buy another.
If you really want to find out, go to a toy show and check one out or visit a fellow collector.
Good luck.
