Goldberg vs Lesnar absolutely doesn't need a title. But the red belt definitely needs Goldberg vs Lesnar. It's only been around for about six months and has been held by nobody of note yet. For its first WrestleMania, it would not be good to be in a match between two comedy midcarders. Best thing is to put the belt on a real star and then bring someone up to their level by beating them for it -- though if Goldberg retains and vacates and it ends up being another tournament or Reigns vs New Guy match, it's all a bit pointless anyway. Good point. I see Goldberg winning and then beating Lesnar in a longer than 5 minute match at Mania. He comes out the next night, thanks the WWE Universe and retires. There's really no positive to Lesnar winning the title and then disappearing until SummerSlam, Raw is thin to begin with and they need their champ on tv. If done right, a tournament could be compelling and propel new guys into the main event.

WWE NEEDS to use guys like Taker, Lesnar, & Goldberg to build up the younger guys. Tournament would be nice too. But I HATE when champions vacate their titles if they aren't injured. Doesn't do anyone any favors IMO.

I agree with you that they need to optimize part timers to put over new guys, but that type of stuff doesn't appeal to the casual fan, and that's who Vince bows down to. Look at how Ambrose/Lesnar turned out last year, or Taker/Wyatt. WWE either doesn't know what to do or doesn't care about building their future. Thats why when Cena/Taker/Lesnar leave they are gonna hurt. I don't like that either, but Goldberg would be a special case. A guy who was supposed to be one and done, had one title run in him, won it and beat the biggest monster three times. There would be nothing left to prove (and I don't think anyone wants to see Goldberg/Reigns)

I think the idea has to be for Goldberg to win, Lesnar wins at Mania and then they strap the rocket to Finn the next night on Raw. I don't know who else is viable. Maybe Nakamura, but I don't see the confidence with Nakamura the same way I think you do with Finn, primarily because of all the merch Balor is going to sell. Nakamura seems like he's going to go more of the AJ Styles route where he's high profile but they build up to putting him over.
Samoa Joe or Braun could always be a factor on Raw if Goldberg retains at Mania. I don't see the value in letting Goldberg beat Brock again though if Goldberg is leaving and Brock is still going to be around. I know by default that makes whoever beats Goldberg look like a monster, but so does beating Brock if Brock goes over Goldberg.
Regardless, I think the idea is to get the title on the next guy the night after Mania in a big crowning moment. That's why I foresee Balor taking the belt right back. WWE knows the audience for Mania and for that Raw show in particular. So that leads me to believe it's going to be a Finn/Joe type.

Not a chance Owens retains. Owens is about to get dropped to the US title picture within a span of a month

If Owens retains somehow by some miracle and Owens stays WWE Universal Champion then the only way Owens/Jericho works with the WWE Universal Championship is if Jericho drops the WWE United States Championship to someone else

im sorry but Fastlane seems like a longer Raw, every match is predictable and i dont see too many swerves besides Taker costing Reigns the match, Owens vs Goldberg should be decent but itll get like 10-15 min max and i also want to see where the go with Joe, im hoping for a returing Balor tonight if he delivers a post match beat down on Zayne, only wm match that makes since. I dont see Rollins risking it to return too soon

I got that sad feeling in my gut. Kinda like butterflies, but like the butterflies are kinda dying. I just can't get behind the idea of another Goldberg WWE title run. Especially at Owen's expense. Ugh.

Looking forward to putting this show in the rear view mirror and getting into the Mania build. Really nothing for me to get excited about tonight. I'd like a great match out of Joe and Sami, but it really should be a borderline squash if they want to to continue boosting Joe the way they have been.

I'm here, but it's Raw so I'm not excited. Gallagher/Neville and Joe/Sami are about all I'm looking forward to.
