Picked up a few of the Mattel 12 inch figures from my local Asda as they were in a deal. Thanks pauloso. I know these get a lot of stick on these forums but I liked them more than I thought I would. Obviously they have their flaws but they're aimed at kids and I think kids would have a lot of fun with them. Thought I'd do a quick review on the four I picked up and a comparison with a Basic/Elite equivalent. Finn Balor I'm a massive Balor fan so had to pick this up once I heard it was out there. I think of the four, this torso suits Balor best, it's like it was designed for him. The headscan is a larger version of his first basic and looks decent. The whites of the eyes missing is a bit weird looking though. There's not much paint except from the face, logo and boots (which look like a throwback to the Jakks era) but I like it. I think it looks like Balor. The articulation is good with plenty of movement in the arms and legs. The only obvious missing point I can see is the waist swivel. Triple H This body doesn't suit the game. He has the original short hair scan and suffers from the ginger-ish hair but the overall likeness is good. No logos on the back of the trunks or boots. John Cena I think the paint on the eyes looks better on Cena for some reason. Head looks to be the same as the Elite 17 which is his best likeness. The lack of detail is more noticeable on Cena as he's missing logos on his armbands and paint on the trainers. Stone Cold No attire details missing from Austin but then that's not difficult. He doesn't have his calf tattoo (wonder what an Undetaker would look like in this scale). Head is the same as the first Austin basic I think. Knee braces are flexible and look great. Overall, while I won't be replacing my Basic/Elite collection with these anytime soon, the price point, articulation and character selection are great for kids. Thanks for having a look!

Other than Balor, I hate them all... and I don't even like Balor.

Glad that you were able to pick up Finn so easily BC. For £28 (these are £11 individually but are on a 2 for £14 offer) those four are not a bad purchase for the amount of figure you get. I also think that customisers could add a lot of painted detail as the larger scale is more forgiving. It is also nice that Mattel has a line that harkens back to the "original" action figures of the 60s GI Joe's.
Which figures were left on the shelf after your purchase?

I totally agree, the underlying sculpt is there for a customiser to bring out with paint. There was a really good selection, I left behind a Seth Rollins (white attire), Brock Lesnar and a Sting (including a few more Cena's, Balors and Triple H).

The legs look too short imo. Cena, HHH, and Austin also to skinny.

I had an ex that told me bigger was better. I told her even a 747 looks small in the Grand Canyon.

When I was a kid I hated this 12 inch bullcrap (save for the Power Rangers monsters because Megazord). Whenever I got one from someone for a birthday gift, I would be pissed because it would be the only one I had and I couldn't use it with my other figures. So it was like a wasted gift. Really big things and really small things that aren't in-scale with the regular toy line are useless.
So, no. They aren't good for kids. Unless they're 5.
/end rant
Still bitter 20 years later.

Balor looks like the only one where all the parts look perfect proportion wise. Everyone else definitely needs a different/bigger torso IMO.

Aren't those big version built with the new elbow pegs that Mattel/Bill wants to keep on the new Elite?

...would it kill them to paint the rest of the trunks on the top of the legs (like they do with Basics!)? It just looks so... bad.
