Blue Meanie shared this on Instagram http://instagram.com/p/BQlXsaWg2QT I hope whatever he's going through that he pulls through. Update: Unfortunately George The Animal Steel has passed away, as confirmed by WWE.

2007 was a rough year for wrestling fans. We've already lost Snuka & Chavo Sr. We could very well be about to looks Steele & Vader....This could be just as rough as a year.

I think he meant that 2007 was awful, because Bam Bam, Sherri, Benoit, and I think Mike Awesome(?) all passed. And that he thinks 2017 might be just as bad because we've lost Chavo Sr. And Snuka, with Vader and Steele possibly passing away too.

George seemed like such a genuine nice dude from the stuff I've seen of him behind the scenes more recently. Sad times indeed.

From Facebook,
I lost a dear friend today - Jim Myers, aka the famed wrestler George "The Animal" Steele. His daughter, Felicia Ann Myers Smith, sent me a message this morning that he had passed. Inside the ring, Jim was a savage competitor. Privately, he was a physical education teacher and football coach in Madison, Wisconsin. He had also played professional football in the Canadian Football League. He married his college sweetheart, Pat, and they had three children. He was a kind, sweet, generous man. Jim's wrestling career enabled him to travel the country with his family, a luxury unaffordable on a teacher's salary. Jim and I met for the first time at a meet-and-greet where I showed him a dozen photos I had snapped at the Boston Garden back in the 1960's. Since he had saved very little memorabilia, I sent him copies of the photos, along with a pile of wrestling magazines with feature stories about him. We talked by phone many times over the years, even considering having a small side business together. Just three years ago, Cathy and I spent some time with him when he came to NH. He proudly told us about his faith in Jesus Christ and the peace and serenity he got from being a believer. He is now in the comfort of his creator, may he rest in eternal peace.

Man this sucks. I really enjoyed him back in the day. I remember how weirded out I was when I opened his Classic Superstars figure to find out it had real hair haha. RIP George
