BTW, remember in that stupid wrestling expose on NBC when they revealed the major secret that in the turnbuckle there is foam? Those idiots didn't realize that George the Animal Steele exposed that in the 70s when he would eat the turnbuckle!

As a few have said, there is at least a silver lining, with this, in that he lived a full life, with a loving family. It was definitely amazing how the Animal character was basically a modern day Neanderthal, while Steele himself, was a very smart man. RIP wild man.

Got a chance to meet him 20 years ago at an indie show; very personable when dealing my nervous, star-struck, little 9-year-old self.
R.I.P. George Steele. 😢

R.I.P George Steele.
I will never forget the first time I seen him eat the turnbuckle. An Animal no doubt.

So I was thinking about this in class earlier, and realized, we are 38 days into 2017, 5 wrestlers have already died, if you average it out, that's about 1 a week. I really hope this doesn't continue.

I was introduced to Steele through SmackDown Here Comes The Pain and Legends Of Wrestling. I still have his Classic Series 2 figure. RIP Animal, thanks for the memories.

I've related this story before, but you'll just have to bare with me as I post it again. It's cathartic to me, and a eulogy of sorts for the Animal.
About 17 or 18 years ago, my best friend and I "lived" at a local indy fed here in Pennsylvania. We'd be there at each and every show they put on. We'd stay late and hang out with the boys and help tear down the ring and put it away in the basement of the gym where they put shows on.
One night, George was the special guest for the show. When we had finished putting the ring away, I went up to him as he was sitting in the locker room and asked if he minded signing an autograph for me. I told him I hated to bother him when he was relaxing, but I was a big fan and would love to take a minute of his time. The man proved to me what a legend was that night. He asked me to sit down with him, and he signed the autograph for me. He asked me about myself, and we wound up talking for over an hour. We spoke about politics, faith, the business, and current events. The man treated me like a peer despite the fact that I was a 17-year old kid who loved rasslin'.
I will never forget that as long as I live.
Rest in peace George. You were one of a kind...and larger than life.

George Steele was definitely one of a kind and overall just a great human being. He will be sadly missed.

I'm glad he lived a full long life that's very rare among wrestlers.
