I only get basics when the character hasn't been made as an Elite.. like Shelton Benjamin, Great Khali, the PTP, etc.

I used to be all in, basics and Elites. Sometimes the Elite is better, sometimes it isn't. Mileage may vary on how much you like the style, but you can't deny that Elite 26 Jack Swagger was freaky looking with his huge head, tiny body, and skinny arms when compared to the correlating basic which had an improved body. Sometimes basics get weird details that end up being better too, like the recent Tyler Breeze getting a new sculpted belt while the elite is just a paint app.
Anyway, these days I'm buying less and less because I find the quality has dipped a bit more than I'm comfortable with and I also can't find the stuff in stores.

When I collected WWE Mattel, I was Elite only. It was tough for me, especially since a lot of talent wasn't lasting long enough to make it past a basic, so I had to do a lot of conversions.
To me, Elite was the way to go. Colored tats, accessories, entrance gear, better articulation. Price was tough, but 9/10 times, it was worth it.
Seems like now Mattel is moving much faster with getting Elites out of certain people (Cass, Enzo, Crews, etc).
I am glad I got out when I did, though. I collected every Elite, mainly because the attires were always different and unique. With my wife's health issues and needing to sell it off, there's no way I'd be able to keep up with it now.

Yes. Literally the only basics I own are The Shield three pack from K-Mart.

I started out collecting Basics but once you start buying more Elites, they just don't feel the same so I stopped a few months ago. The only basics that I'll buy from now on are any women releases that I'm interested in, but overall I'd rather take the quality over quantity approach and stick with the few Elites that I really want, instead of trying to be a completionist.

Basics get way more hate than they deserve. Great value for money (the same can't always be said for Elites), and they just look... I don't know, sturdy. I think they're pretty cool if you exclusively display
That said I am mainly an Elite collector as I tend to find there's more variety in characters, plus belts, and colour tattoos, things like that

I used to buy ONLY elites but over the past two years I've warmed up to the basics. Blame CM Punk and the Prime Time Players: Punk because I really wanted the Macho Man and Bret Hart homage attires, PTP because they are a prime example of wrestlers I like enough to want a figure but not enough to pay elite figure costs AND they don't even have elites to get if I wanted them. The basics are a nice way to fill out my collection without breaking the bank.

The only Basics (and Battlepacks) I usually buy are the Legends/Flashback-types. And the occasional female figure.

I'm an elite collector, the very few times I do get basics is when I need figure with a particular headscan or accessory. I'm not a fan of the limited articulation and the lack of details.

Only elites for me. I have 1 basic figure, being USA Warrior. I will likely pick up the upcoming Warrior TNF.
Elites are just so much better, I would rather have 1 elite then 2 basics.
Still pisses me off, that Hitman Punk was a basic.

Basics are too same sometimes they need to be special with different outfits from the elites Example why would I buy a basic Cena when they elite is slightly better.if they were to do something like a fb Cena attire that would only be a basic attire and not a elite I buy but there's too many elite to basic attires and there needs to be more different imo

I only buy flashbacks, women and suited basics since we probably will never get them as elites. There are too many attires I would miss out on if I only bought elites.
