rip ing Patriots and Eagles... Superbowl teams suck. You didn't honestly think a depleated Pats was defeating indy, did you? Or an Eagles team with no Owens, a gimpy mcnabb, and no running game was beating washington?... you suck.

Or an Eagles team with no Owens, a gimpy mcnabb, and no running game was beating washington?... you suck. I was convinced that Philadelphia was better than Washington, even without Owens. I figured Westbrook would be relied on and be a LOT more successful than he was. As for New England, yeah, I still thought they could get the job done. They have OWNED Peyton Manning over the past couple of years... I also make a lot of 'gut feeling' picks, which this was certainly a case of.

I have been convinced for a while that Philly is finishing dead last in the NFC East... I know people don't make much of the value of Owens, but with McNabb obviously hurt, not to mention the misuse of Westbrook, the absence of TO is being felt in a big way, and in my opinion will continue to be felt.
As bad as the Eagles look, the Giants look good, the Cowboys look good, and Washington has looked good.
I can see your reasoning for picking NE over Indy, but it was due... you knew they were beating em eventually, and the time was now. I think for the bigger picture, this game was basically the passing of the torch in the AFC... the Pats are going nowhere with that makeshift defense. Its clear they are missing Harrison and Seymour... Bruschi is not 100%.
The Pats defense was their strength. They were always a team that you couldn't outscore, because they held you to nothing... well, they can't hold teams to nothing, and can't outscore anyone because of it. They don't have the explosiveness to their offense that other teams have. Dillon looks like crap. Brady is still Brady, but doesn't have the big play guys like Ward, Harrison, Moss, etc... I like Deion Branch as a #2 reciever, but when you're counting on him as your go to guy, things aren't very good.

Back to the Pats:
The Pats are a team that has a mediocre offense. I said it. A mediocre offense. Brady is average. Branch is average. Givens is average. Their playmakers are average. What made that team so great was the fact that their defense shut opponents down so that their medicore offense could score 17-24 points, and win a game, easily. You can't argue with the success, but I think this goes to show that Tom Brady cannot win games by himself. It wasn't Tom Brady who won those superbowls, it was the Patriots defense. Put any other QB under center, and you probably get the same results.
I don't think the Patriots have a team capable of winning a big shootout type game. They are simply not used to having to do it.

I completely agree about the Patriots, Brian. Although I do think Dillon and Brady are both above average.

I said it last year. Any QB in the NFL could have won three superbowls on that team. Brady doesn't look so strong without his great Defense.

Sorry about the slight lateness guys. Distracted by a female. Most of you know how that works...I should have the new standings, leaderboard, and schedules up by 5:00 however.
