100% agreed. I think Shawn is probably approached every year with an idea for him to work WM. I wont say never. But I dont think it would take a good bit of something to get Shawn back in the ring. I dont mean money. I mean something that would really peak his interest. And of course as the years go on, it will be harder and harder. Shawn is a guy who takes a lot of pride in his in ring work. If he cant be HBK, he wont want to do it. He also stated on Sam Roberts that he cant just come back for one match because he gets too entrenched in it. He would need to start training months ahead, and would get so into that it would be hard to just up and leave again after all the effort that goes into a big match. Its fun to see him come out and superkick people still though and thats probably a lot easier than building a fued and working a whole match. Someone gets sweet chin music, he gets paid, Im happy. I kind of figured that. I cant see him just "Undertaking" it. |

Idk what qualifies you to be a professional wrestler, but Shane goes out there and gives it his all. He does high spots, and bumps like a madman. Is he a technician? No. Are they going to put on a technical masterpiece, a clinic if you will? Probably not. What they sure as hell will do though is sports entertain. I have faith in AJ to make it a good match and to go on to many more Wrestlemanias where he can face Nakamura or Roode or whoever people want him to face that he already fought somewhere else. Training.. That and working more than 2 matches in 10 years. |

Personally I'm glad he's not coming back to fight AJ, Shane as his opponent works well, the story writes itself, what would be the storyline? Shawn is taking this retirement a little too seriously. Is he trying to prove a point or something? Retirement doesn't exist in wrestling anyway. Also he hasn't wrestled in 7 years so could he still go? Of course retirement exists, the only reason we have guys like Hogan and Flair still trying to go is that their wives both left em and took huge chunks of their money and their ego wont let them rest knowing no ones talking about em. Michael's retired due to that back injury came back a near decade later and totally re-invented his character. He could have held the title a multiple occasions but declined, probably back because he knew he didnt have anything to gain from it, he put younger guys over he seems pretty happy doing his own thing, I know he's big into hunting so its not like he's sat at home bored. I think he probably could still go, visually he seems to be in good shape, and I'm guessing he's quite active what with being a hunter n and outdoors type guy. |

Man, AJ vs Dolph would have been awesome on the mania stage. They just did Dolphs heel turn, so it could have worked, I liked the HBK is not man enough but I am angle proposed earlier too. Anything would have been better than Shane, Harper, strowman. Heck even Big Show now that he is left with nothing. I am so tired of the McMahon family as characters, it is what a 20 year old storyline at this point. Please get rid of all "authority type characters and just have a Tunney type character that comes out every now and then to make an " important" decision and bring back managers to center feuds around.
AJ is being wasted this year and seriously the guy who has carried your company all year gets a plan B match.

People are declaring it as a fact that AJ vs Shane is going to be bad. One of my favourite matches is Shane vs Angle so who is to say that AJ vs Shane may not steal the show? Would you prefer AJ to be thrown into the battle royal? Not that I'm saying I know Styles/Shane will be bad, but Styles deserves an opponent he can have a wrestling match with at WrestleMania. Shane McMahon is not that person. Angle/Shane was also 16 years ago. I don't believe Shane is anywhere as agile as he once was. Which was shown last year against The Undertaker. This! I understand both sides other argument but I really don't get how people fail to grasp this. Very few people are saying it will suck. Spot fest, maybe, there's just countless better options. |

I can't blame HBK for turning it down. The match would've had so much hype to live up to going into it that it probably would've been a letdown. Shawn hasn't wrestled any matches since WrestleMania 26, so to just expect him to come back and wrestle flawlessly in a one-shot deal would be a lot to ask. Don't get me wrong - I'm sure the match would've easily been the best on the card; but guys like HBK and Austin seem to be content with going out on a high note on their own terms versus coming crawling back for one more shot at glory, and you've got to respect that.

I think this shows that WWE sees Styles as a legitimate star. They don't ask Shawn Michaels to come out of retirement for just anyone. Shane isn't the best consolation prize, but it's still gonna be a prominent match for Styles against a McMahon. Even HBK himself had a match with Vince at Mania when I'm sure there were better options available. Although I think rumors were that he was set to face Eddie Guerrero that year.

I'd rather have this match with the buildup we got than AJ/Nakamura or AJ/Balor with no buildup or story just because it would be a "good match". I agree 100% about the comparison to Shane/Kurt too. AJ is just as talented in the ring as Kurt, maybe even better. I DEFINITELY wouldn't want AJ in the battle royal with the likes of Jinder, Breeze and Fandango, and Apollo Crews either. Personally, I think AJ/Shane could be MOTN on this year's card, and it'll be entertaining for sure. |

The positive spin on this, more importantly, is that it shows the WWE must extremely value AJ Styles to even contemplate asking Shawn Michaels come out of retirement for a Wrestlemania match with him.
I understand and respect Shawn's decision but man, a little like Austin turning down a Match at Wrestlemania 32, this could have been a fitting and fair exception to the rule.
