It's like the UFC when the current champs contract runs out and they crown an intern champ. Both are considered the champs until they have a unification match. How it played out on Tv was that they "stripped Punk" the next night, he returns a week later, and they reinstate his title reign while Rey and Cena were interm champs. That makes more sense. Shame WWE couldn't explain it a little better back then, but I can totally buy your view on it. Yeah the WWE did a crap job on TV handling this. The UFC does such a good job handling these situations but I guess we shouldn't be surprised that it was more complicated than it needed to be in the WWE.

Was he the champ? Yes. Was it a good title reign? Absolutely not.

I think it's nice for him to at least be on the list. Some people still don't believe he should've been world champ, but he's super respected, one of the all time greats in the ring, and was possibly the most popular guy on the roster at various points. He definitely deserved his couple reigns as champ and deserves to be on the list of greats who were WWE champ.

Yeah, just not a successful one. That whole tournament was a stupid waste of time. Should have had Punk return mid-match before a new champ was crowned. Ya this is how I feel. I don't really make a distinction between a guy being the WWE or WHC...it's essentially the same thing. Either you were a heavy weight champion in WWE or you weren't. The thing that confuses me is how WWE like considers Y2J's victory of HHH on Raw in 2000 a title win, but like also doesn't. To me that's like the equivalent of what they did with Rey. I feel like from 2006 and on there are a lot guys that were champion that just didn't deserve it and kind of devalued the legacy....primarily because after they were Champion WWE relegated them to the mid-card or because their reign was so short that it can hardly be considered a legitimate title reign: -Swagger -Mark Henry -Khali -Miz -ADR -RVD (go ahead and flame me...he deserved the be world champion...but it was so short lived and devalued by also making him ECW champion) -Rey -Sheamus -Ziggler -Christian

I didn't really have an issue with it since his WHC reigns were at least legitimate in length. I just absolutely hate when they do what they did with Dolph ZIggler where the guy's first reign is like a joke, and maybe he gets a second reign for a short amount of time....then he never is a perennial contender again. Even with the Miz, it really bothers me how they never put him back in the main event after he was a great champion for all those months.

I havent read all the comments but im sure im not the first to say, its in WWE's records and it counts to Cena's 16 times as champion so yeah I recognise it and WWE does too.

I never believed in his character and didn't like it after his WCW days. I didn't think he was fit for the Heavyweight championship.

I wish they could of just given him more than one ing night with it. Even if he dropped it a week after it would have been better.

Then do you all count Inoki's win? WWE does not, though he won the belt. No because its not recognized. Same as Ric Flair's other 8 title reigns.
