Some might not understand why WWE is deciding to give Jinder Mahal such a big push but it all comes down to money.
WWE is expanding into India in a big way. They are looking to capitalize on the Indian fanbase who love pro wrestling and could bring a lot more money to the company. WWE recently opened up a WWE Shop in India as well. Therefore, you shouldn’t be surprised to see Jinder Mahal merchandise pop up soon.
It’s been reported before in The Observer that Impact Wrestling already does great business in India. They air on Sony SIX and it is the company’s highest paid TV deal.
Impact Wrestling is also planning a big tour overseas as well. WWE airs its programming on India’s TEN2 channel, so they see direct competition over there.
If you factor in the recent hiring of Sheetesh Srivastava as Vice President and General Manager of WWE’s offices in India it shouldn’t be a surprise why they’re making big moves. Srivastava knows how to move product coming from Disney.
WWE obviously sees money on the table in India. They’re bringing up The Bollywood Boyz for the same reason. WWE has also been in talks with Indian Olympic silver medalist Sushil Kumar as well. Bringing in this kind of high-profile Indian signing and pushing Indian superstars is certainly a great way to gain fan attention overseas.
It should be interesting to note Jinder Mahal was actually born in Calgary, Alberta Canada. But Mahal’s family is of Punjabi Sikh descent and he speaks Punjabi fluently.

Juicy mahal is best thing to happen to WWE in the Modern era , and once he wins the the title, and ends orton's terrible title reign, it will prove Smackdown is the show of opportunity

I mean it makes sense now, but that still doesn't mean he deserves a title shot right now. They should given him a push against some semi top guys, get himself over, and then go for the title. Being a jobber for 6 months on RAW does not mean you should get a title shot. Its gonna a lot to convince me this was a great idea.

It's definitely a thought but does it really make sense to try building a new market around a heel?
If that's really what they are going for, it would make more sense to build a market around someone the people in that market are supposed to cheer.
Especially in India. From my experience talking to Indian fans, they seem to be all in on cheering who they are supposed to cheer and booing who they are supposed to boo. I feel like WWE would have to make a concerted effort to fail in India for it to not work out. Jinder likely wouldn't be a needle mover.

TBH, I don't even care. I just loved the unpredictability of it.
I mean, sure, Orton/Mahal will probably suck, but... it can't be worse than his matches with Bray.

Everything is understandable when it comes to Vince's money.
They can push him in the right way without let him win N1C match for the WWE Championship from nowhere.

I miss the days when I thought the reason wrestlers won matches was because they were the hardest man in the ring that match.
Now every time a non-white guy wins I gotta be scolded and beat over the with a speech about how racist 0.29% of the American population is? Everyone is scared shizless to be thought of as racist nowadays, everyone is afraid to be accused of discrimination. Saying we don't accept a "different" champion is goddamn nonsense. WWE can you please stop fueling this media-perpetuated fire? I'm not going to pay for any of your products if you keep up this crap.
Whatever happens, I'm gonna keep cheering Jinder because I love having straight up Rudos as champs, but if the racial nonsense keeps up I'm just not going to tune in anymore.
Also, thanks OP for passing on that info. I will continue to suspend my belief of it though haha

Wish it would have been a lil more of a gradual thing, but I'm fine with it.

I'm surprised it's happening this fast. But I watched Smackdown last night and he drew HEAT from the audience. I wonder if Vince is crazy enough to have him beat Orton for the belt. Nobody would be expecting it.

Makes sense. Nothing like mortgaging the future for the here and now. As much as I'm not totally on board with Jinder Mahal....WWE really hasn't mortgaged the future. Randy Orton is Champion. He's 37 years old and has been Champion 13 TIMES and is arguably the worst and most boring WWE Champion in history. And as much as I think everyone wants AJ Styles to be Champion, he's going to be 40 years old in 2 months....so he's not the future either. Jinder Mahal is only 30 years old, has the potential to be a major heel, and he's comeback with a physique that makes him look like a real dangerous competitor. Obviously like I said, my vote is for AJ Styles to be Champion, but WWE seems to have pushed him down into the mid-card for the US Title for some reason....so if my choices are Boring Orton or Jinder Mahal....I hope Jinder Mahal wins the WWE Title. There's nobody else on Smackdown. If not Jinder Mahal, it would probably be Baron Corbin. So I'll take Jinder Mahal over Baron Corbin as well.

Same reason they pushed Khali then.. Dont know why they dont just find a genuinely talented Indian wrestler and build him properly. He's been with WWE from 2010, other than his 2 year break after 3MB, as nothing other than enhancement talent.

Again, I'm not against the idea of him having a push to the Title picture, but it's how quickly and impromptu it has come around. Orton needs filler opponents for PPV's, and Jinder will give Orton credible babyface reactions since Jinder is a legit heel, and is already getting heat from injuring Balor etc. He shouldn't be winning the WWE Championship by all means, although it wouldn't surprise me if it did end up being a Khali situation. However, a short 4/5 week programme wont do anybody any harm.

Yah, I want to see how this goes, I do think it needs to be a slow build, but we got what we got, so I guess it is what it is.

A couple of matches with Randy Orton will soon make all his heat go and people lose interest with him. Honestly, Randy Orton is one of the most boring in ring performers of the last decade and for me, most people who get into a program with him never come out looking any better.
