Hey all, I'm a sophomore in college, and this past year my WWE fanship (especially with buying figures) has dwindled. Every time I tried to get back in to figures I stopped myself out of fear of friends finding out/self-consciousness. Next school year I will be living with 5 others (3 are friends, the other 2 are more like acquaintances) and I am worried about having any WWE merch with me in my room next year (the only things i have now are 2k17 and 1-2 t shirts). If you are older than me, how did you go through the college years in regards to your WWE fanship/buying figures and merch? I'm really struggling with it!

Back in my day (yeah, I'm not that old but I'm not that young either), I used to introduce myself with, "hi, I'm Patrick and I'm a Jerichoholic." Then they ask, "what's a Jerichohilic??" and that usually breaks the ice. I mention I've been practicing McMahonism since 1989. The majority of the time, the people I met say they used to watch Wrestling and stopped, usually around 2001.
Here is a trick you could use. Start with a Championship Title Belt. You hit them with the big item, and anything else after that doesn't seem like a big enough deal to make a big stink about it.

It's a legit question - The only response is this 'f#ck'em' and 'who gives a fly sh#t' what people think. Your probably going to cop some crap, but as long as it's all in fun, who cares. It's very likely one of your friends is into it as well, and if they really have an issue with and it causes the friendship to break down, you'll make new friends...

Universities arent the best place to find people who watch wrestling. My college years coincided with the Attitude Era (Note: I hated the Attitude Era and stuck with WCW until the end) and I didnt know anybody who watched wrestling at the school I went to.

I say screw it man you like wrestling you like wrestling. Maybe don't display your whole collection in your room haha that might make you seem a little weird to people meeting you for the first time. When I first met my wife I was hesitant to tell her I watched WWE but then I found out she used to watch it when she was a kid. Now she buys me figures all the time and while she doesn't care for wrestling now days she'll watch it with me. But she doesn't really have a choice cuz I'll superkick her through the window if she complains.

I'm used to getting the "who cares what people think" response which is easy for some people to use but for some reason it doesn't help me. Also, I think the number of fans (esp my age) has decreased significantly, making it less likely a friend is in to it

I was a freshman in college, living on campus back in 2001. Up until then, I was a die-hard fan that watched Raw and Nitro every week. But living in a room with a roomate that didn't watch wrestling and on a TV he brought from home, I didn't get many chances to watch wrestling while in college. It also didn't help that I was busy making new friends, going out, and doing homework, so I barely had any spare time for things like wrestling and TV. It's just the natural course of life.
Years later, 2007-2009ish, well after graduating from college, I got back into it and am still to this day, although alittle bit less these past 2 years or so because WWE is so bad these days. But during my college years of 2001-2005, I barely watched. I did go on websites to read spoilers and stuff like that, and if I was home on holiday, I would usually watch then. But I mostly kept up via the internet. I don't regret it, either. Your college years are some of the most important in your life, especially if you are living away from home.

Never be ashamed. Wave your WWE flag high. If someone doesn't get it. Then it's their problem. Don't conform to society, make society conform to you. When I was in school, I wore a WWE shirt to class all the time. I bought a lot a figures while I was at college, and I displayed them for everyone to see. Sure it probably didn't help when I brought a girl back to my dorm, but hey who cares. The point is, never be afraid to show the world who you are!

Why care if you like we buy the merch. The sooner you learn not to give a f*ck what anyone thinks the better I use to wear RKO hoodies, caps, shirts to college I even bought Orton figures on lunch breaks sometimes

not the society we live in today Yep it really isn't that simple in my opinion. I'm used to getting the "who cares what people think" response which is easy for some people to use but for some reason it doesn't help me. Also, I think the number of fans (esp my age) has decreased significantly, making it less likely a friend is in to it In what way? As in Wrestling isn't as popular as it once was?

I won't lie to you. Your figure collecting will be taking a hiatus. it absolutely matters what people think when your trying to get laid. It's hard to close when you got a half naked man doll on your dresser. You'll stop collecting and get back into it when you have kids.

Your mates should accept u for who you are, sure they are going to hang crap on you for being into wrestling, mine did for years and still do. But it's all in good fun, never makes me feel bad, cause I give them crap about the crap they are into.

Just be confident with it. I'm personally very open about it now unlike the past when I was pretty embarrassed about it. To be honest, I'm a pretty good looking guy who has a good bit of confidence to begin with. I eventually got to the point where it was almost a relief to flat out be proud of liking wrestling and honestly you end up making MORE friends that way cause a lot of closet wrestling fans will gravitate to you cause they have probably wanted someone to talk to about it to. And as for anybody that judges you for it? GOOD!!! Everyone is judgmental and if they have a problem with you watching a specific tv show, then at least you know they aren't worth your time anyways. It's just like how I got with girls... At first I was shy and always wondered if someone would like me or not. Then eventually I just stopped giving a crap and straight up found out by asking them out and getting rejected a decent amount of times. Rejection and judgement are Good things, seriously. Better to know exactly what someone thinks about you than constantly wonder. I know I took this to a whole different direction, and it's tough to do while in college. But it is something to work on.

I gave up gaming to get laid, or at least try to get laid. Closing the deal on getting laid is done WAY before you even get to the bedroom. I've never had a girl be into me then turn right off cause they saw my action figures. I mean hell, if I wanted to sleep with a girl and found my little ponies in her room, it would not make me stop being into her. If anything I might even get those suckers involved. And if a girl rejects you cause she sees actions figures.... Then she doesn't deserve the D.
