I just went to the Walmart closest to me earlier today. About a week or two ago there was an end cap full of Elite 32-39 and a few older DMs. Today, they're all gone.

So are they scanning the figures upc codes or are they manually looking at dates on back of packaging or just taking everything off the shelves and boxing them up ? The Mattel vendor is supposed to come in and identify the figures to go back. The notification I received said anything 2015 and before. I'm not sure if Mattel will be willing to accept more recent figures if the quantities are outrageous. My rep hasn't come to my store yet and my on hands aren't out of control because I pay attention to them.

I've been picking up a lot of damaged package WWE figures at my local Goodwill lately. Usually Elites are $3.99, Battle Packs $3.99 and single Basics $2.99. Recently I've got all of these for my loose collection at Goodwill. Lost legends Elite Warrior Elite Rusev Elite Bubba Ray Dudley Elite Bo Dallas WM Elite Triple H Bushwhackers Battle Pack Austin/Vince Battle Pack Kofi/Big E Battle Pack Austin TNF Basic Undertaker Summerslam Basic Undertaker Basic Brock Basic Renee Young Basic

I guess it works for a tax write off if they just take a ton of stuff and give it away to whoever.

I read this yesterday, and went into a Wal-Mart about 30 minutes from me earlier today, they had their WM33 Elites on Clearance for $13 (unfortunately being a MOC collector, there were only 2 HHHs left & both had heavily damaged boxes) & WM33 Basics marked to $7 (just one Stone Cold though). They had no regular line Elites, just the 2 HHHs from the WM33 Elite Line & a few TNF Elites. They had 1 Rock basic, when they had an influx the last time I went in (ranging from really old to B68B, B69 & B70), and they had no Battlepacks whatsoever. So, it seems the vendor that went into that store just essentially cleared the pegs of even the newer Basics.
I hope this is indication that Mattel is going to start trying to make sure distribution here in the U.S. is much better than it has been. It shouldn't be the case that if Ringside gets a series of Elites in early April, that they show up at retail in late June or early July. There should only be a difference of a week or two from when Ringside get the figures in, to when retail stores get them in. I mean, those in the UK often get figures a month or two or three before they show up on the pegs here in the U.S. People are still having trouble trying to find HOF 3 at Targets, when some Targets have gotten them in well over a month ago. I know it's not likely something that can happen, but figures should be sent to all stores at around the same time, to prevent someone from finding a series a month before others, or some not ever finding a series (I have never once seen BP41 & have only ever seen a single Cena from E46).
This should be something that is done every now and then, not just this one time. They may clear the pegs now, but stores will get stuck with the same figures that won't sell, preventing stores from getting new series in. If they go through and clear the pegs ever 2-3 months, it will be much easier for people to shop retail.
My hope is that Mattel sends these Wal-Marts they are pulling old stock from these series: Elite 49/50, Basic 70/71, Battlepacks 45/46, and the SummerSlam Elites, Basics & Battlepacks.

My closest WalMart is left with mainly the tnf elites, the three packs, a few recent basic stings, newest tnf basic set, and the first wave of retros....that's it lol. Either I never found the clearanced elites or someone snagged the leftovers ahead of me.

I did see WM 33 2 packs marked down to $10 the other day (on the regular toy aisle, the few nearest me have done away with the clearance aisle by now). Thought that was odd. But also they were missing the 25 E34 Rusevs, E34 Barrett's, Bryans. This was a day or so before this thread. Makes sense now

That's awesome! I'd never think goodwill would get figures. Seems as if around me things are never on clearance. If I pass a goodwill I'll have to stop in now. They're removing them from the store and issuing Walmart full credit (at wholesale) because they're not selling. If Walmart were to mark them down, then Walmart would take the hit. I'm sure Mattel will redistribute the figures to some of the odd lot type retailers already mentioned in this thread. They're not gonna give anything away.

This is common practice in big box retail. It is, however, the first time I've seen Mattel do it with any of their toy lines. It shows just how bad some of these stores are plugged with crap.

Like every other large retailer, freight is automatically reordered when inventory dips below a critical point. The idea behind the recall is to adjust the inventory to something reasonable so the new stuff orders automatically as it sells. Replenishment time will be determined by how fast Mattel can get their products to Walmart distribution centers and how much they send. Walmart doesn't like to sit on stuff. If they have it and the stores need it, they'll send it. Shippers can be ordered by the store at any point if Mattel is offering them. I hate shippers, they are a big reason shelves get clogged. A store can order a shipper, but there's no guarantee that it's not gonna be full of old crap.

Even if they write off all this dead inventory, the fact they are sending Mattel reps to every Walmart to take all this stuff has got to be costly. How many Walmart stores are there in the USA ? So Mattel reps are taking road trips to every Walmart in there area ? You would think it would be more cost effective to take them directly to local Goodwill's then to rebox and send to where ever they might go.

The reps are merchandising reps that are in the stores 2 or 3 times a month anyway taking care of the Mattel stuff. We have a lot of vendors that service their own products (greeting cards, live plants, beer and soft drinks, etc.) Walmart physically boxes the freight once it's identified and sends it back to Mattel on Mattel's dime. I would imagine Mattel already has distribution deals with discount retailers like Odd Lot and TJ Maxx and will redistribute the figures to these places. The could even send them overseas like they did with the last HOF 4pack. WWE is still a big brand and there are places that will gladly take the product even if collectors don't want it.

Interesting love the info thanks man. Do you know why certain things walmart mark product son then when elite 41 hit where I used to it all the old sid and sand were down to five bucks asap why is clearance so spotty?

Hopefully this will get my store back to getting new stuff. They used to be great, but ever since e32 hit it was kind of a death sentence to the whole WWE section. I don't even remember the last elite I bought at WalMart honestly.
Almost made me about give up even checking the aisle. For a loooong time it was e32 Bryan, e33 jyd, and e39 Sid. Up until the wrestlemania shipper showed up -_-. Basics were even worse. At least those Bryan/hhh bps are gone finally as well lol

I wish they would hit up the DC Multiverse BvS & Doomsday BAF sets while they are there. Those things might be worse than E39 Sid and E32 Bryans as far as warming, all over my area at least

So walmart has 5,000 plus stores in the usa.
3,500 are supercenter stores, 400 are "discount stores" the rest are sams clubs and neighborhood markets.
Lets go with 4,000 stores since its an even number.
Then lets take 20 elites, 20 battlepacks, and 20 basics as a rough guess as to the average amount of dead inventory they are pulling/recalling.
4k stores times $1,000 per store, equals $400k (retail) then your shipping 400k worth of product back to a mattel warehouse or two.
I can't even guess the shipping cost cause i don't know if they get a volume discount or not in this case.
If they are dead set on sending it all back to themselves thats more money they are going to spend.
I'm gonna guess somewhere in the 500k range of the cost of this recall.
